- inactive, on 05/23/2009, -4/+18Imagine that a public company that depends on investment dollars is saying the recession is over. What did you think they were going to say, "we are all *****, pull out all your money now".
- 4321234, on 05/24/2009, -3/+17...then Mr. Ballmer killed and ate a puppy.
- shawnfromnh, on 05/23/2009, -2/+15Well I work in the circuit board manufacturing business and we're slower than hell right now. I guess he must be talking about the Chinese tech companies because he sure isn't talking about the US and hasn't for the past decade since NAFTA and GATT have been enacted.
The US also won't be recovering unless the congress and Obama administration fix what Bush and the republican congress let happen to the Semiconductor/Electronics industry in this country as well as the rest of the manufacturing industry which is the backbone or was the backbone of this country. - blastcube, on 05/24/2009, -5/+16Why would anyone listen to someone with a vested interest in generating confidence in the industry they have a stake in.
Why should this even be news. They will never say that things are going to get worse. Their bottom line depends on this confidence.
***** Microsoft - ocean17, on 05/23/2009, -9/+18Sounds like a gathering of has-beens: Bill 'The Internet won't be a big Deal' Gates, Steve 'I can't get Vista to work with my Printer' Ballmer & Rupert 'I will charge for my Internet News Sites' Murdoch.
- B1665r, on 05/24/2009, -0/+9And Gates released a herd of swine flue infected pigs on the audience.
- spectecjr, on 05/24/2009, -3/+12AstralKnight - let's see you do .01% of what Bill Gates has done to ease suffering in the world, and then you get to talk, ok?
- JohnnySoftware, on 05/24/2009, -2/+11His own company is laying off its staff. So he must know what he is talking about. Next article, please.
- inactive, on 05/24/2009, -8/+15I find Vista and Win7 to be comical attempts at real operating systems.
- DBreeze, on 05/23/2009, -2/+8AstralKnight is one of those alex jones nuts.
- garionw, on 05/24/2009, -1/+6Dugg down, blocked and reported - anything else I can do, except laugh at you?
- mrBitch, on 05/24/2009, -0/+3Yeah, it's more sad than funny...
- jakem1, on 05/24/2009, -0/+3Perhaps you should work on your spelling before you try formulating any more ideas.
- mrBitch, on 05/24/2009, -0/+3I remember Bill 'The Internet won't be a big Deal' Gates, back when they were doing their Windows 95 roadshows.
At the time, Microsoft said that Windows 95 allowed you to sign up to a subscription service to dial up access to the MSN, which was (back then), equivalent to an AOL dial up, except (originally) Microsoft's MSN did NOT allow you to connect to the internet.
Microsoft actually thought that they were going to compete against the general international availability of the internet by providing an MSN "MS internet" dial up that was only available in the U.S.
Yep, the original MSN flopped, and was then rebranded as the MSN you know today.
"... Microsoft's MSN was originally conceived as a dial-up online content provider like America Online, supplying proprietary content through an artificial folder-like interface integrated into Windows 95
... Open access to the World Wide Web was not originally included in the classic MSN service ... "
http://bit.ly/MSmsn - mrno, on 05/24/2009, -2/+5of course. over two decades of bribery charges, corporate takeovers, suing competitors to bankruptcies, buying up competitors and sell off their technology to eliminate competitions, forcing exclusive windows installations on many pc manufactures, offering $20XP to just crush the Linux market, unfair prices to specific vendors, and list of other offenses that last forever.
do i care about this company? do i care if the devil feels guilty and offering free medicines in africa? - MrFoof82, on 05/24/2009, -0/+3Depends on where you are, and what industry.
Hardware sales are indeed down overall, but at least where I am (Boston) hiring isn't too bad. There's a few thousand openings out here, albeit, most of them for very senior positions or positions where there's been a labor gap for a few years now (data warehouse developers, guys with lots of BI projects under their belts). Additionally, H-1Bs? Not much of an issue anymore, since you really can't get them, so there's positions out there that've been vacant for some time now because you can't bring the expertise (yes, expertise, because a lot of what's vacant requires someone who really knows their *****) from outside the US.
For the bread-and-butter developer and IT positions, it is indeed slower. However it's not stagnant. Additionally, most companies have finished their fiscal Q1 now -- IT knows what their budget is, what they need, and they're ready to spend. The number of postings is indeed up, although if you're trying to stick true to your career path, you'll need to be a bit more patient, and you may need to swallow a bit of a pay cut (5-10%) if necessary. Though overall, it's not terribad, and salaries are actually staying where they were. - jakem1, on 05/24/2009, -0/+1Why are you working on a Saturday?
- jakem1, on 05/24/2009, -0/+1There are plenty of large, public companies saying that that the recession has a long way to go so your theory doesn't hold much water. The CEO of British Airways was just saying that two days ago.
- sevenalive, on 05/25/2009, -1/+1@jakem1: Well you know the world doesn't stop just because it's saturday. Did you know stores and other businesses are open on the weekends too!
- mrno, on 05/23/2009, -7/+6lol... thanks. that was really funny.
- urel, on 05/24/2009, -4/+3I'm at work, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for this to happen......
Wow! There is a Wiki page about thumb twiddling! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thumb_twiddling Yeah, everyone is real busy at work these days! - mrno, on 05/24/2009, -6/+4right... sold enough crappie vista crack to sell win7 cocaine now. vista users bleeding inside their throats. for the vast majority of people, it is hard to understand the broader marketing and legal tricks of software and hardware giants.
- dsundquist, on 05/23/2009, -11/+8tech is the economy
- Matt88, on 05/24/2009, -11/+4I'd be confident too if I was on the verge of releasing Windows 7 to the masses
- nextTopModel, on 05/23/2009, -24/+13Buried for lame companys with no own ideas (go figure microsoft rediculous patent count).
Microsoft is the perfect example why the current patent law is ***** up to hell!
Microsoft is evil! - inactive, on 05/23/2009, -35/+8Gates and Ballmer are disgusting criminals.
