- DarkShroud, on 05/12/2008, -0/+15Had this shown XP SP3 beating Vista SP1 this would probably be on the front page.
- citrusfizz, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8Exactly. I swear the "last generation OS" fanboys are out in full force and worse this time around.
- estvir, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6It should have been titled "XP SP3 DESTROYS Vista SP1!" so it would've made it to the frontpage thanks to the average, moronic Digger who doesn't actually read the story.
Oh well, at least when the aforementioned average, moronic Digger goes on about that '5-10% performance drop' and 'horrible drivers' they can be handed this link among many others.
- Ouzin, on 05/13/2008, -0/+11This is exactly the kind of thing I see all the time, comparing Vista to XP. Vista is made for a new generation of hardware, and trying to slap it onto your P4 1.6Ghz/512MB/Geforce4 is not going to turn out well. Which, is exactly what I think the "Vista Sucks" crowd has tried to do. If you have a decent computer, give Vista an honest shot. If you don't have a decent computer, then by all means, enjoy your XP.
- iofthestorm, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3What this article shows is that with the latest drivers, Vista is actually equal or faster to XP. I dugg you up, but accidentally because I didn't understand what your comment meant. Maybe you should RTFA before commenting.
- estvir, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6Wow, ExtremeTech's new website is hideous but aside from that, good work proving 2 Vista 'faults' as being inaccurate.
- brettmurf, on 05/13/2008, -2/+3Would also like to see a Vista x64 and XP x64 in these benches. I know for a fact that with a Geforce 7600GT (+Core2duo and 6GB DDR2 800 and Audigy2 ZS) my steam games ran quite a bit worse on x64 Ultimate. This was roughly 4 days ago before I formatted and switched back to XP. I also play other first person shooters that aren't insanely new, and they all take huge performance hits as well.
Vista has come a huge way recently though, but I still don't feel it is there yet. I just have too many odd things not working every once in a little while, and I just would rather not put up with it. This is probably mainly that developers haven't switched to Vista, and x64 on top of it. I would love if people just made the switch to 64 bit, but it doesn't seem to be happening.- basevillin, on 05/13/2008, -0/+3Hmm... I didn't notice a difference between 32 and 64 bit Vista. Were you, perchance, using version 169 or later video drivers or were you using the ones from Windows Update?
- Sokkratez, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6I knew I wasn't crazy when I thought I've been operating and gaming just fine in Vista for 5 months.
- TheWindBlows, on 05/14/2008, -6/+1If Linux had as much support driver wise as XP/Vista and the same games (truly natively) I'd bet XP and Vista would both be out performed.
We all know it's true. - Sithlrd, on 05/14/2008, -4/+2Too bad my framerates still suck, my HD grinds on at unknown processes for minutes at a time, and sometimes, cut-n-paste stops working... Vista FTL
- DarkShroud, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3Sounds like you have a hard drive problem not an OS problem.
- BlackKnight6, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2It is fun to look back and be tempted to say the phrase, "told you so".
