- Vusys, on 10/11/2009, -1/+34Process Explorer hands down.
- AngryDeuce, on 10/11/2009, -0/+20Yeah I give Process Explorer a high recommendation, been using it for a year now and it's great!
- allyant, on 10/11/2009, -1/+21I hear Process Explorer is good?

- Subduction, on 10/11/2009, -4/+17You've only been running for 17 days?
I have a hardware problem with my Asus motherboard that makes my machine difficult to get started once it's off. My Windows XP machine has been running for at least 6 months without so much as a re-boot.
So, you haven't used Windows since Windows 98, eh?
Want to give us your chunk on how nobody wants to crank their car to start it, or how that Woodrow Wilson is ruining the country? - adriaaan, on 10/11/2009, -0/+12Where'd you hear that? /s

- Rev0lver, on 10/11/2009, -1/+8lol @ the "known bugs" list.
Have fun with that. Buggy emulation of a few more mainstream games can hardly be considered legitimate gaming for a platform. Don't kid yourself. - nhdw, on 10/11/2009, -3/+10I love Linux, but wasn't the ability to track CPU utilization on a per-process basis just released with a recent kernel? They're definitely behind the times when it comes to process monitoring.
- Rev0lver, on 10/11/2009, -1/+8We should play a game of TF2 sometime.
OHWAIT. - AngryDeuce, on 10/11/2009, -3/+10Why do so many linux users feel the need to announce to the world that they use linux?
They're one step behind the Apple fanboys. Nobody cares what ***** OS you use...
And my gaming computer (running Vista, no less!) hasn't locked up or *required* a reboot since I built the freaking thing damn near a year ago. - AngryDeuce, on 10/11/2009, -1/+71. Oh

5. ! - fuzzynyanko, on 10/11/2009, -1/+6My Windows session has been running for over 750 hours. It would be longer, but I rather have Windows patched with security updates.
It's decent and since it isn't a server, it's enough. (and I wonder how long before any more *nix guys will post uptime stats) - FLarsen, on 10/12/2009, -0/+5A nice thing with Process Explorer is that you can search for handles (for instance file names) and close them, solving the annoying problem with locked files.
- waydee, on 10/11/2009, -0/+5I don't use the task manager at all these days, it's all about Resource Monitor.
- mweathr, on 10/11/2009, -1/+4Nope. Top has always been able to do that AFAIK.
- nhdw, on 10/11/2009, -1/+4I meant I/O utilization on a per-process basis (not CPU)... Don't remember ever seeing that available...
- infinitus64, on 10/11/2009, -0/+3you know a freeware tool is doing something right if there are programs that don't want it running in the background. no /s
- mweathr, on 10/11/2009, -7/+10You haven't installed any Windows updates requiring a reboot in 6 months?
Update your PC! People like you are the reason botnets exist! - snake1025, on 10/11/2009, -1/+3Trolling fail.
- mweathr, on 10/11/2009, -3/+5You seem awfully vocal for someone who doesn't care.
- Mersonix, on 10/16/2009, -0/+1there ya go.. bury linux..
- eworkswebdesign, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1Not only Process Explorer but I also use starter to control Windows startup and processes.
- Jikul, on 10/11/2009, -0/+1It's like a bunch of programs that offer features I never thought I needed.
- tounchin, on 10/13/2009, -0/+1nothin new to me but cool nonetheless.

Why you gotta be so defensive?
"I love linux as much as the next guy, but switching to linux is not the solution to finding a better task manager for *windows*."
Which is why I said I wanted to tell my Windows using buddies about it.
I said "just a small observation" because I thought it would keep people from accusing me of doing more then making a little comment...
:( - grumpyrain, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1This plus end process tree are two of the most useful features.
- anumv4ever, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1wonderful it is a good idea
- odxWallz, on 10/11/2009, -1/+2I want to hear from someone who's used a mix of all these suggested programs - Which one, in your opinion, is the best?

Novell is the *****. - BrownieMix, on 10/12/2009, -1/+1I wasn't trolling.... >_>
- FLarsen, on 10/12/2009, -1/+1"just a small observation": Yeah right. More like "just a small ad".
I love linux as much as the next guy, but switching to linux is not the solution to finding a better task manager for *windows*.
Oh, and I wouldn't want microsoft to replace the built-in task manager. The built-in one is simple enough to use blindly and that's important when a program has crashed while having a lock on the screen (such as a game). - Subduction, on 10/11/2009, -2/+2Come to think of it, I haven't had an update requiring a reboot in 6 months. I have them on, and they update, but none have asked for a reboot...
- FLarsen, on 10/12/2009, -1/+1Then it's even worse.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/18/2009, -1/+1Most of those bugs do not occur most of the time; it is quite possible to play many games (especially Source Engine games) through Wine without any trouble.
That said, I probably should have known better than to endorse Wine in digg.com/microsoft . - tykjen, on 10/12/2009, -0/+0Iarsn Taskinfo needs to be on that list.
- FLarsen, on 10/12/2009, -1/+1Ubuntu is great, but why spam it on a *windows* article/submission/whatever? This is digg, people here already know about ubuntu.
- explodingzebras, on 10/12/2009, -2/+1I like Process View, but also like DTaskmanager, as its like an enhanced version of windows task manager, it integrates well, at least in XP.
http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/
It's free, thankfully, as I'd never pay for any task managers. - Majora26, on 10/11/2009, -3/+2top
- RPGmaster, on 10/12/2009, -4/+1I find it kinda nice that Ubuntu's System Monitor has all the features of Process Explorer, and Ubuntu comes with it by default :P
(just a small observation)
I'll have to remember to tell my Windows using friends about Process Explorer....
Also, why doesn't Microsoft make it default? - mweathr, on 10/11/2009, -3/+0Yeah, that was added in the kernel 2 1/2 years ago.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/11/2009, -7/+3TF2 runs fine under Wine.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=v ... - inactive, on 10/11/2009, -7/+3no one cares that you are a virgin. Or that you are so incredibly worthless and stupdi that you don't know how to use a simple program like windows that hunderds of millions of people use every day with ZERO problems.
