- LightSpeed4, on 12/13/2008, -54/+351vista hate is a lame bandwagon. It isnt a horrible OS and was a big leap from XP with the UI and the search alone.
- Adam420, on 12/13/2008, -23/+211Ive been using the Windows 7 build 6956 and I have to say it is a huge improvement on Vista, coming from someone who hates Vista personally I love Windows 7 so far. It is so much faster and doesn't seem to use so much resources and even has even better eye candy then Vista. Also compatibility seems way better and easier.
- beahmad, on 12/13/2008, -4/+154how vague and.. convincing
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -3/+104what are you talking about? I used 98SE for several years... I remember when XP first came out it got a lot of flak until SP2.
- AZRoboto, on 12/13/2008, -8/+106I like their one picture caption:
"It's easier to customise Windows 7: themes now include different glass colours, different colour intensities and a customcolour mixer"
That's a feature of Vista... - falstaff, on 12/13/2008, -7/+99More like:

I wouldn't say that. Apple doesn't routinely "leak" their OS's. - scottevans, on 12/13/2008, -0/+70It didn't fit with his alternating "Yay" "Boo"'s. ya know....never let fact get in the way of a post
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+69Simple fix, turn off the indexing service.
- Macuyiko, on 12/13/2008, -21/+87"It's easier to customise Windows 7: themes now include different glass colours, different colour intensities and a customcolour mixer."
... wow! Just like Vista! - Riotblade, on 12/13/2008, -2/+63Actually, the Mythbusters proved that you can :)
- Shadoblak, on 12/13/2008, -3/+62but they do "leak" secret information and blurry ambiguous screenshots with a blurb of explanation about a project to get people on the internet buzzing....
- FreddieD, on 12/13/2008, -32/+90Vista's demise was entirely predictable. Every other OS they release turns out to be a dud, with the subsequent OS fixing all of those problems and is widely heralded as a success.

- LMN8R, on 12/13/2008, -18/+64Good ol' Digg, continuing to spread the Vista hate train perception ***** misinformation.
If only these same people hating on Vista (even though it's been pretty damned great for the last year) and praising XP remembered just how terrible a ***** the XP launch was:
http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archi ...
Just a nice little history lesson for you guys.
Anyway, Windows 7 wll likely be a great release, but not because it's doing everything entirely different than what Vista did. Rather, it's vastly expanding on what Vista did. Vista came out with overhauled internals, and now those overhauled internals are allowing much more rapid development, optimization, new features, and more. - Modestexcuse, on 12/13/2008, -6/+49I'm running a pre-beta (6956) version of 7 now. I really like some of the changes. It's far more intuitive, and less resource intensive. It found all the drivers for my laptop automatically. I can't wait for the release.
- gcnaddict, on 12/13/2008, -0/+40Microsoft doesn't leak their OSes either. The presenter from whose computer build 6956 was imaged from got fired, as was the employee who later shuffled the original iso to the leakers.
- Kapitaine, on 12/13/2008, -24/+62Those who still favour XP over Vista need their heads checking. Vista (at least to this present day) is actually quite a nice piece of kit. Sometimes I have to go back to a machine with XP and it makes me shudder. Ok, so Vista wasn't what all the hype was, but isn't that what "hype" is anyway? Just hype. Windows 7 sounds as though it's going to be a great release if the hardware will support it.
- Noctem, on 12/13/2008, -7/+44Uh, since when has Win7 been under a shroud of secrecy?
They're going full-force as far as information goes in attempt to dispel the (at this point, somewhat unfounded, but unstoppable) hatred for Vista.
I like Vista more than XP, been using Vista x64 since launch. I threw Win7 6956 (x86) on my laptop and I gotta say, it feels much snappier than Vista ever did. And boy do I not miss the sidebar :) - roxgod666, on 12/13/2008, -3/+34Looks
Windows 7 > Vista > XP
Performance
Windows 7 > XP > Vista - Arramol, on 12/13/2008, -2/+32Some of these improvements sound really nice. The bit about being able to drag a window to the side to make it take up half the screen will be helpful for typing papers - drag my paper to one side of the screen and my research to the other so I can easily glance at my notes while I'm typing. And all of the changes to make the OS "quieter" will be much appreciated; incessant balloon notifications are one of my biggest gripes with Windows.

- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -1/+27and that has to do with 3rd party manufacturers. Oh wait, we're not talking about apple. bash away.
- Rikkochet, on 12/13/2008, -4/+30MS has ALWAYS delivered excellent OSes (with the exception of ME)... They just take far too much refinement after their public launch which is what gets them into trouble.
XP is stellar now. Vista SP1, I have to admit, is now pretty polished and quite acceptable as a replacement for XP. That took over a year to happen, which in any other market would be completely unacceptable, but we're here now. - Modestexcuse, on 12/13/2008, -3/+29Just like in Vista, you can shut it off. You can actually set what notifications you want to see, and to what extent. It's more customizable than Vista.
Why do I feed the Trolls? - WillPhlake, on 12/13/2008, -1/+27Buried for incorrect spelling of "Dugg."
- skyshock1, on 12/13/2008, -23/+48Ballmer? Is that you?

99% of the problems people have with vista can be fixed with a checkbox. - ClevelandBrown, on 12/13/2008, -2/+27Well then based on that pattern I'm assuming 'Yay!'
- killerofkiller, on 12/13/2008, -1/+25agreed.. been using the 6956 build for a week now. it's Solid. not one crash. my ATI drivers installed just fine and everything else worked without drivers. the new taskbar is a huge improvement and the new aero effects are great. Aero is integrated into many of the menus now instead of just minimizing animations and win+tab. Ive installed office 07, matlab, some CS3 apps, dropbox, itunes, and a few others. all work perfectly
- jakem1, on 12/13/2008, -0/+24To tile two windows in Vista you can select two windows on the taskbar (hold down the ctrl key and click) and then right-click and select "Show Windows Side by Side"
- Kazbaeden, on 12/13/2008, -0/+23Right, but what's different is that you can save a set of those options as a theme, and can switch easily between themes with a single click. You can also select multiple desktop wallpapers and create a slideshow, which will change your background intermittently.
- Autodidaddict, on 12/13/2008, -3/+26Thanks for the update - keep us posted
- cathpah, on 12/13/2008, -5/+27oh my fanboy christ.
GET THE ***** OVER IT. APPLE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE....NOR IS IT THE PERFECT INFALLIBLE SOLUTION.
now go back to humping your iphone....your probably spend more time trying to get others to notice it than actually using the damn thing. - mr_ziy, on 01/15/2009, -3/+24You suck
- Ridikul, on 12/13/2008, -0/+21An anti-Windows comment coming from AppleMacStud!? I would have never guessed.
- Kazbaeden, on 12/13/2008, -1/+22See above reply.
- 1shawn, on 12/13/2008, -1/+21Sorry to burst your bubble, but your "every other OS" theory is flawed. For one you left out 98 SE. SE was a huge improvement over the original 98. And where's NT? 2000 was the upgrade to NT.
- ExRe, on 12/13/2008, -0/+20It's like 2000->XP. 2000 was the new system and XP was a lot of changes to give greater usability.
- itcoll, on 12/13/2008, -1/+20are there any improvements in the speech recognition module ?
- godofallcows, on 12/13/2008, -2/+21I've had Windows 7 6801 for a couple of months now and i ran Crysis, which I could not do on Vista (something about using more CPU than GPU for games I think). It really is faster and it's only in a very early build. I had it crash once so far, but that was from a cracked game so not sure which one was at fault. My average boot time is from 37-45 seconds. I suggest getting VirtualBox or other freeware and trying it out, it's pretty cool.
I am planning on going to the MSDN conference when it comes to Dallas in January, and I'll get a Beta DVD. I really hope it blows our balls off. (it won't take much to after Vista)
I can answer any questions you have about it if you have any. - pdileepa, on 12/13/2008, -2/+20I've tried out the PDC build and memory usage is on par with Vista. General operation isn't that much faster than Vista (benchmarks may indicate otherwise, but my mind doesn't do benchmarks). But Vista isn't bad anyway, so I'm not complaining.
- Gee1004, on 12/13/2008, -0/+18Wrong. I own both.
- HawkieEyes, on 12/13/2008, -0/+18It took me a few years to switch form 98SE to XP, 98 SE was great.
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -9/+27People say that 7 seems snappier than Vista. I'll be interested to try that out because Vista is pretty damn snappy for me. Granted this is a higher end computer of course.
- FurtThePirate, on 12/13/2008, -2/+20@mike
It can run Crysis. - falstaff, on 12/13/2008, -1/+19It wasn't until SP2 that XP was considered a stable OS. That happened about as far into its life cycle as Vista is now, and now we're starting to see the Vista-hate-tide turning.
- Kazbaeden, on 12/13/2008, -2/+20This is gone over in every Windows 7 thread out there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Microsoft ... - godofallcows, on 12/13/2008, -4/+22Hey Ballresin, how's that PgUp and PgDn key coming alo- oh wait. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT ANYMORE, BURRNEEDDDDD!!!
But seriously shut the ***** up, Mac's are just as bad as PCs in many areas, and have fun running Warcraft 3 and Spore. - KMartSheriff, on 12/13/2008, -0/+18You spelled Windows wrong.
