The article says that the university isn't going to support Vista through their IT department. They didn't say you can't run it on their network, but it paints several worst-case scenarios and then says they won't provide support in the event those things happen. - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About the same amount of time it took for XP. Actually a little less time that that.

I would have mentioned this, but they only give you 300ish characters to describe the story. Anyway, all those programs it mentions directly within the email are the heart and soul of the CofC network for the students, and the ones in the link are the heart and soul of the network for professors, administrators, and other employees. If you can't use even one of those, you can't even access the school website, let alone even begin to think about getting onto their network. Windows Vista has effectively been left out in the cold, and the school states in the email that its IT department won't support it. What that means, essentially, for anyone who's familiar with the CofC IT staff, is that they aren't even going to make an effort to make the network compatible with vista because they just had a network overhaul last year. They have, for all intents and purposes, banned vista from their networks, and until microsoft manages to make vista backwards compatible with every one of those bullets (which are every day scenarios, not worst case), Vista users will not be able to log in via the CofC network.
Thus, the title does say it all. - SeraphimJulius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1When a whole College bans your OS even for a little while then you know there is a problem.
Lets see how long it takes MS to take care of this little mess up.
