- michaelpinto, on 01/08/2009, -68/+378I'm pretty damn happy with Vista and I'm a Mac user — even looking at XP is painful for me. BTW my one lesson from Vista is to avoid the initial release of an OS anyway...
- aph33x, on 01/11/2009, -31/+195Say what you want about Vista, but I have Ultimate x64 on this machine and I'm very happy with it.
I'm a PC user/gamer for over 20+ years. - oxilite, on 01/09/2009, -37/+197You know whats so sad about this? EVERY TIME you release a newer version, in theory, it should be the BEST... You shouldnt need to call your new version the best ever. Why would you release a version thats ***** than the one you made last time? But that was the case with Vista.
Microsoft really needs to get rid of that antiquated registry. With resources being so cheap theres no need to share them. - PilotHead, on 01/11/2009, -18/+130I've been a happy Vista user for a couple of years now, not 1 issue has ever popped up.
A lot of the people I hear bashing Vista either haven't used it (Mac Users drinking Apple kool-aid) or got the release (which you should never do) and never updated.
But you can't please everybody, but I'm happy with it. - ozziek, on 01/11/2009, -3/+109Agree on registry. Disk space isn't an issue anymore. Let's have the Mac OSX approach where an app is actually a folder with all it's settings etc contained therein. Move the "app" and it's settings etc move with it.
- RetepNamenots, on 01/11/2009, -8/+108I'm on 7 right now, and I don't see any reason to go back to XP as I did from Vista.
But don't blogspam. - cquinnd, on 01/08/2009, -13/+105Inaccurate, that specific article suggest the MS might be moving away from Vista with the release of a public beta for WIndows 7. But the logic they apply is as valid as claiming that MS was dropping XP within a few months after the Longhorn project went into beta.
MS regularly runs two or more seperate tracks of OS releases at the same time, they maintain their existing base business client systems typically running the stabilized version of the last release, while supporting new technology on a upcoming version until either they match the existing market, or technology and system prices catch up to the blend of features and performance they are hoping becomes the norm. - Huitz, on 01/11/2009, -18/+107I use linux, Unix, XP, OSX, and Vista on a daily basis. There is nothing wrong with Vista... The UAC is a bit cumbersome but thats the only problem.. WTF - Why is everyone on the vista sucks bandwagon? I switched my personal machine to Vista a year ago and found no reason at all to switch back to XP... I guess I'm not cool. I like all my OS's
- techdever, on 01/11/2009, -8/+81i like turtles, but you don't see me starting blogs about it and spamposting digg.
- pizpot, on 01/11/2009, -2/+67Cutting Edge makes you bleed. Let the paid testers and bored people debug it for you.
- ieee, on 01/11/2009, -32/+97Is Vista dead? Was it ever alive?
I read articles for years about one feature or another getting dumped out of it. So, IMHO Vista was likely the result of poor project management, delays, and someone ( probably now fired ) order it out the door unfinished.
"Windows 7" is likely just Vista renamed and *finished* - ozziek, on 01/11/2009, -2/+58and in ruling future, Google and Apple will be the empire and people like you will be belly aching about them.
- bodger, on 01/11/2009, -6/+62Actually Windows 7 is a picture of Hitler.
- 3nder99, on 01/11/2009, -4/+42I have the Windows7 beta too. They should lets us upgrade from Vista for next to nothing. Otherwise I'm not doing it. Tired of giving microsoft my money.
- KaiUno, on 01/11/2009, -4/+41I find turtles hard to penetrate. Mostly because of their shell.
- LoveWidescreen, on 01/11/2009, -6/+41*****. You cannot tell me that 300 million *retail* copies were sold. If Vista came pre-loaded on a new PC or laptop, that does not constitute a Vista "sale". That constitutes a PC sale and Vista came along for the ride. I'm sure that a good portion of those had Vista wiped out and another OS installed in its place, but the PC vendor obviously has no clue about that.
Stop trying to ***** us with numbers that clearly aren't accurate. I'm not saying that means Vista is good, bad or anything else. Just saying that people buy PCs for the PC, not the operating system, so PC numbers should not be included in that. - lead2thehead, on 01/11/2009, -12/+47I don't know why so many people have a problem with Vista. Vista is WAY more secure than XP. And it's just as easy to use... it just requires a little responsibility on your part to learn how it works.
XP has a lot of inherent design flaws that have been fixed in Vista. The biggest complaint I hear is about UAC. Apparently, Windows users have gotten so used to running EVERYTHING with Administrator access that they get all bent out of shape when they have to click "Allow" to escalate their privileges. Then they get mad because a few of the menus have moved, and then they get absolutely livid when they try to run software that isn't Vista compatible and it doesn't work perfectly. Most of the problems people have are not Vista's fault and you shouldn't blame Microsoft because you're too lazy to learn a new OS. - nebben, on 01/11/2009, -14/+46seriously? Apple: fap fap fap fap , OH YEA, GIVE IT TO ME [insert overpriced apple product here] YOU ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE !!
- OrangeCrush, on 01/11/2009, -9/+39This is a marketing release nothing more. They had to change the name because Vista couldn't recover from the bad reputation it garnered from Microsoft releasing it essentially unfinished and with poor application compatibility and shoddy 3rd party driver support. This is Vista SP2. It just needs a new name to distance itself from the botched Vista launch.
- exspasticcomics, on 01/08/2009, -6/+36they can't get rid of crtl+alt+del! How else am I going to get their OS to do what I want!
- HolyMan28, on 01/11/2009, -0/+29You should paint flames on it.
- badapple18, on 01/11/2009, -5/+33Same Here i don't know what all the fuss is about. If you have a new machine with current hardware then you have nothing to worry about.
- Azerael, on 01/11/2009, -2/+30+ 1 Mac user using Vista.
It makes the odd times I pop into Windows to game it up all the more pleasant. - timedalkat, on 01/09/2009, -12/+40Ballmer retorts with "CNN is dead", to which I declare you're all dead to me. That includes you too music industry.
- DaemonNivas, on 01/11/2009, -5/+31When it got out, yes, it was a piece of trash. Vista TODAY is a good and stable operating system.
- fluidfoundation, on 01/11/2009, -11/+37Vista - Is CNN Dead?
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -1/+26wat
- shrewduser, on 01/11/2009, -2/+26fast at crashing....
- ozziek, on 01/11/2009, -8/+31um, Apple copied Xerox Parcs GUI interface and then claimed they invented it. They are not whiter than white.
- RobotPimp, on 01/11/2009, -31/+54MS projected Vista would sell 200 million copies in 2 years [long before the vista hate bandwagon began]....Guess how many this 'failure' of an OS sold in those 2 years - 300 million copies. People who say vista is dead don't understand the OS market, MS or operating systems in general. If Vista is dead with 20% of the market after 2 years, what does that make mac os x with 8% of the market after 7 years? Or linux with <1% of the market after 15 years? LOL, vista haters make me laugh, they're so unbelievably stupid and ignorant.
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -12/+35I am actually happy with Vista to be quite honest.
That Windows 7 task bar really bugs me tho, it's ugly. - Myztry, on 01/11/2009, -1/+23A Vista is a view into the distance. Something which appears indistinct and unrefined.
- wstrucke, on 01/11/2009, -3/+24I have to say that would probably be Windows ME, not vista (though it's close)
- SmellyGeekBoy, on 01/11/2009, -3/+24Yes, this is by far my favourite part of how Mac OS X works. The Windows way just doesn't make sense at all. Hell, even DOS worked in a similar way (each app is entirely self-contained in its own folder).
Windows:
Install app... Run installer, watch progress bar for hours
Uninstall app... Run uninstaller, be surprised when stuff is left cluttering your registry (and even the filesystem itself sometimes).
OS X:
Install app... Drag it into your "Applications" folder
Uninstall app... Drag it into the Trash
And this is coming from someone who recently switched back from OS X... - XeroXenith, on 01/11/2009, -2/+22Linux ≠ "don't do a hell of a lot with your computer"
Linux = poor support for games, but stable work environment
Not everyone needs games on their computer. I do, that's why I dual-boot. - mikelieman, on 01/11/2009, -1/+21Hey, know what might work out good?
If all the needed configuration information was in a single place, and then applications could manage their own configurations?
Let's put it all in a single directory? I got an idea -- call it C:\etc - murraj2, on 01/11/2009, -5/+25How many retail copies of Leopard were sold?
- Myztry, on 01/11/2009, -5/+25Not even the file copy speeds. Surely you kid!
It's not like some obscure function that no-one uses... - inactive, on 01/11/2009, -4/+23I know what you mean, we obviously just aren't "cool" enough.
- darkNiGHTS, on 01/11/2009, -1/+19Except in the case of Windows 7. The reason why that's true most of the time is because of drivers. If you take a preSP1 vista and install current graphics card drivers and stuff on it, it runs great! Vista graphics drivers are compatible with W7, so that transition won't happen.
- FreddieD, on 01/11/2009, -2/+19Vista renders my porn faster.
- Jambi, on 01/11/2009, -5/+22Every year? Leopard came out in late 2007, and Tiger was out in April of 2005... Snow Leopard's likely to hit sometime this fall.
- Drahkir, on 01/11/2009, -2/+19I have to agree with Michael. I'm a loyal Mac user but recently bought a Dell XPS to save some some money, and to have a dedicated Windows machine for school. While I've had the usual Windows related hiccups, I haven't had nearly the terrible experience most claim to have with Vista. I think most people jumped on the "Vista hate" bandwagon back when Vista was problematic and can't think for themselves enough to know when it's time to deboard.
- JigoroKano, on 01/11/2009, -2/+18And what you end up with is something which is basically not usable by humans without a priori knowing what something does, is easily corruptible and difficult to manage when applications don't play nice, and is a single point of failure for the whole system.
You say it makes things faster and reduces overhead? The savings are inconsequential in 2009. They have been inconsequential for some time now. I'll take just about anything over the windows registry. - JEWestbrookJR, on 01/11/2009, -0/+16you can't say microsoft NEVER brought anything to the table... that is just a downright lie. I use Windows, Mac, and Linux regularly, and frankly prefer Mac, but I definitely know their ***** still stinks. If there's money to be made, there's corruption of at least some sort. End of story.
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -4/+20^ What if teh mouse driver crashed?
- precog29, on 01/11/2009, -6/+21i use xp and will adopt 7
- Lloydinator, on 01/11/2009, -3/+18XP was gone?
- LordRahl72, on 01/11/2009, -9/+24I agree. I have been using Vista since day 1 and I have yet to find a problem with it.
- JYoungest1, on 01/11/2009, -27/+42These comments suck so much ass, for all of you who don't know, Windows 7 is basically vista on steroids so keep your comments where the belong, on youtube.
