- sousademiami, on 01/08/2009, -6/+43Wow...I'm so underwhelmed
That's it?
Internet-connected picture frames and a bunch of technologies that already exist? - fabkebab, on 01/08/2009, -4/+37I think there are some interesting ideas, but none of them got me even close to a "wow"
- Pushkin, on 01/08/2009, -1/+18Why not from the horse's mouth
http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/groups/sds/pro ... - Impressa, on 01/08/2009, -1/+11ok, this is lame
- digitalpencil, on 01/08/2009, -14/+24Cupertino start your photocopiers?
- waspbr, on 01/08/2009, -9/+19meh
- solid12345, on 01/08/2009, -1/+10Am I the only one who finds it ironic how Apple always gets the praise for innovation when really nothing they do is innovative. The iPod wasn't the first or greatest mp3 player, the Iphone didn't invent the touchscreen or PDA functions. At least Microsoft is constantly working on creating NEW ideas even if other companies steal them and repackage them to look more cute and make a profit it.
- eclectro, on 01/08/2009, -8/+17Managing to shut down all 30G Zune meida players in the world at the exact same time even though the players have no connection to each other whatsoever??
I wowed. - ScottMitchell, on 01/08/2009, -1/+9Microsoft has long hired top computer scientist researchers. In grad school (2002-2004) we'd read seminal research papers and I'd say one in three of the papers were authored by professors who, today, work at Microsoft Research.
Off the top of my head, I remember Butler Lampson, Tony Hoare, and Jim Gray, but there were a number of others. - tattertech, on 01/08/2009, -1/+7MSFT predicts 2010 or so we'll start seeing price come down enough for consumers.
- vilago, on 01/08/2009, -1/+7dugg for being funny only because of retardation
- cquinnd, on 01/08/2009, -3/+9If you don't know what the average uptime of a Windows Server is in a production environment, that is not my problem.
- zippy757, on 01/08/2009, -10/+15wow???? the only time I say that in conjunction with the Vole is when I see the price of their software upgrades....
...for a $40B company, these guys suck at innovation. - suprchunk, on 01/08/2009, -8/+12That's Vista 2 smartass.
- oxilite, on 01/08/2009, -2/+6Buried for inaccurate title. I didn't even think "wow" ever reading that
- NidStyles, on 01/08/2009, -3/+7Let me guess, you installed Ubuntu, and thusly are a hacker GOD.
- iambrucenolan, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4retard!
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -9/+12Microsoft is innovative. If they weren't most of us will be looking at consoles trying to figure out what the hell wget and pico means.
- mGARANDEUR1, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3I'm already very impressed with their progress towards Windows 7. I thought it was going to be Vista 2. I'm running it now and have to say that the speeds are incredible.
- northerngeek, on 01/08/2009, -2/+5When did Microsoft fail to bring music players to the masses?
- arielmeadow, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3Where's Songsmith on this list? That's my favorite: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/pro ...
- webgeek2point0, on 01/08/2009, -4/+7Ummm...the article is a little behind the times. I actually had to scroll back up and look at the date. I thought it may have been posted a couple of years ago.
First, the Phone Home is already being done with T-Mobile. It's called the Cameo and is a digital picture frame that receives picture messages.
And then he says he's never heard of vibrotactile? What about the Blackberry Storm? That's what it is using for its keyboard.
And then the Whereabouts Clock...there are already a ton of apps that do this, especially in the iPhone market place.
So, how is Microsoft going to change our lives with these projects when they are already out there? The title should be "6 projects that Microsoft is behind the curve on." - alpha94, on 01/08/2009, -1/+4This is pretty boring, not sure why they aren't mentioning Sea Dragon! Photosynth is the spawn of it and it's still interesting but the TED demonstration was really inspiring.

- ouzome, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2It was at the end of the video in the dining room.
- thinboyslim, on 01/08/2009, -2/+4Where's Surface? Or is that not meant for the home?
- gvsurunner22, on 01/08/2009, -1/+3Where is Microsoft BOB?
- skintigh, on 01/08/2009, -2/+4The (6) Whereabouts Clock shows where family members are located based upon their cell phone's GPS location.
How to innovate at MS
1) Watch Harry Potter
2) Copy idea - FearlessFreep, on 01/08/2009, -4/+5most of them weren't even that interesting
- urfe, on 01/08/2009, -5/+6They don't suck at innovation. IEEE voted Microsoft as the most innovative company back in Nov. 2007. Here's the link: http://spectrum.ieee.org/nov07/5645
I know IEEE is hard to follow (as in 'news for geeks'), but it's the trusted, scientific, source. - goober1473, on 01/08/2009, -2/+3I had the same thought, box at home monitoring email queue. New pic hits, sends picture to frame via some medium, wireless usb who cares?
- imomo, on 01/08/2009, -9/+10Microsoft Future Home is the coolest
Images: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/events/mshome/g ...
Video: http://www.microsoft.com/PressPass/SilverlightApps ... - Jonez176, on 01/08/2009, -3/+4I actually don't want my spouse to be able to know where I am at all times.
- iambrucenolan, on 01/08/2009, -5/+6I am not a Microsoft fanboy but I think that Microsoft is improving.
I live Windows Live Gallery and Writer. They are the best of the kind. Also I believe Windows 7 rocks!
Also my Bday falls on 7 january and there are 7 Harry Potter books
And Voldemort wanted to split his soul into 7 parts.
Coz 7 is the most powerful magical number according to the big bad dark lord! - davincid, on 01/08/2009, -7/+8Wow I'm bored!
- ubernoggin, on 01/07/2009, -10/+11Microsoft, didn't know you had it in you.
- cJw314, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1"Or imagine a military service man or woman keeping connected with their spouse while away by sending digital updates from their phone or computer onto the screen."
LOL; I'm sure the military would love this - not that they would allow it, of course. - AnimaInCorpore, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1I doubt that such a future home will ever become reality! A great looking woman working in the kitchen? Come on!
- ChayesFSS, on 01/08/2009, -2/+3WOW: can't believe that's it?!?!
- amk29j, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2Same
- Frecklefoot, on 01/08/2009, -1/+2As a parent, I love the idea of the "Whereabouts Clock" (shows where your family members are), as long as it work when the phones are off as well (my kids are allowed to have cell phones in school, just not turned on in class). I'd also love to know if my wife is still at the store or on her way home. I personally don't care if she--or my kids--knows where I am at all times. I've never been into cheating. But if you really don't want them to know where you are, just don't take your phone with you. It's not like it's a chip implanted in your arm (that's next, but still in beta)...
- MrAsparagus, on 01/08/2009, -2/+3I know eh? Zzzzzzz
- Hydraulix, on 01/09/2009, -1/+29. DirectX is now open sourced.
That's the only thing that would "wow" me. - dgendreau, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1My cat's breath smells like cat food...
- GeorgeMedia, on 01/08/2009, -3/+3Looks like A LOT OF wasted electricity.
- hellaHOMER, on 01/10/2009, -1/+1in best, monotone Ben Stein voice impression ever:
". . . wow . . ."
*yawn* - DannyMack, on 01/20/2009, -0/+0I totally digg this. Especially the Shake2Talk...i'll be following this (hopefully) till it gets to market. If anyone wants to follow it, go to http://www.Shake2Talk.com
We'll see... - zerodivide1, on 01/09/2009, -0/+0Haha! I thought the same thing! As soon as I saw it I said "Somebody read Harry Potter!" Granted the idea may not be new, but the idea was popularized by Harry Potter. And I doubt that Microsoft has had it in its research division BEFORE Harry Potter.
- cJw314, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1I'm so sick of this video.
- malschla, on 01/08/2009, -1/+1I would guess that you are under 18 if you think Harry Potter is the source for such an idea.
