- maverickuta, on 11/21/2008, -3/+43Seems like microsoft is changing there attitude before building new sutff. I heard interesting stuff about the new windows 7 taskbar too. Its really good that they are viewing it from the customer point before building anything. Mac fanboys, c'mon bury me ;)
- zezerik, on 11/21/2008, -7/+32Yeah but it's not white, it's not Apple and doesn't come with a pompous black turtleneck so I'll never buy it.
- bratterscain, on 11/21/2008, -1/+22But with MythTV, you have to pay for a guide subscription now. There's no free services for it anymore. It's one thing that keeps me using Vista's media center because it's already there and dare I say it, it works great.
- Sketchcast, on 11/21/2008, -1/+16I use Windows and OSX every day, am loving what I've seen of Windows 7 so far. I can't wait!
- MMaster23, on 11/21/2008, -1/+12Oh no it's easy! You only have to rewrite the source code, code some shell scripts, check version dependencies .. oh and recompile your kernel of course. Easy!
[/sarcasm]
ps. You may want to double check your version dependencies. - sirbeta, on 11/21/2008, -0/+11Are you serious? Opposed to their gobs of Anti-PC/Pro Mac spiteful articles that finds their way to digg much more commonly?
- and303, on 11/21/2008, -2/+12Media Center is really lush, they just have to tie up a couple loose ends with setting it up and network integration. It will be flawless if they sort that out in this version.
- dubdope, on 11/21/2008, -10/+20dugg just to piss off mac fanboys and the hateful "linux only" crowd.
- pyrates, on 11/21/2008, -0/+9Tell me how I can upconvert 2 channel audio automatically in mythtv to 5.1 channel and be in ac3 outputted via the digital audio port to my reciever. So far I've only been able to output ac3 audio to the digital audio port that is already ac3. I could do all this in windows media center easily. Why can't linux just work? :)
- WaveRunningNakd, on 11/21/2008, -0/+8the only thing that's keeping media center from being perfect is that microsoft needs to kick cablelabs in the nuts for making it so difficult and expensive to bring HD to the masses.
- Gerz1219, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9Have they made it so I can plug-and-play with my Media Center IR receiver and use it with my remote and IR blaster? I tried setting up MythTV about a year and a half ago and this was the dealbreaker, requiring several frustrating hours of reading instructions on manually compiling different modules. I wound up wiping out Linux and reinstalling MCE.
- AboveandBeyond, on 11/21/2008, -4/+11worst piece of ***** I ever used, takes forever to ***** install and it doesn't even work properly.
- Chickenlip, on 11/21/2008, -2/+7Free listings available at http://titantv.com/quickguide/quickguide.aspx
- Modestexcuse, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6I've been using Vista without problems for nearly 2 years. My experience has been excellent. I like the little things. I love the task manager, and being able to right click on a process and open the file location. I love the easy searching. I like the sidebar. I am a musician, and Vista has worked well for me with all the programs I use.
That said, Windows 7 brings these features a step further. I really like the gadgets being independent from the sidebar. I like the folder previews (I believe they are called albums) so that I can view the contents of my musics FOLDERS from several PC's all on one machine.
If you don't like Vista, don't use it. Simple. Move on.
- KMartSheriff, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5I like Front Row, but it just seems so crippled (as far as features go) compared to Media Center. Apple, are you reading this article? You should be.
- jhaks, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4They're not even the same type of application. VLC is a video player; MC more like Tivo.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -4/+8Window 7 rocks.
- jhaks, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4That's not really a good way to think about it. The hardware, drivers, OS and user application are all equally important in a polished product. If you didn't have software like Media Center, Myth.tv or BeyondTV you would be left with a VCR.
- Battlecry, on 11/21/2008, -4/+8Their.
*****. I'm one of THOSE people. - Sketchcast, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4And MPC is better than VLC, so there.
- Modestexcuse, on 11/21/2008, -2/+6I'll say it...I'm looking forward to Windows 7. I am waiting to apply for the RC or Beta when it's available. Anyone have the scoop on that? I didn't see anything on Microsoft's page.
- jhaks, on 11/22/2008, -2/+5If fanboys didn't care about what other people thought they wouldn't rant so much about how great OSX/Linux/Windows is compared to other platforms.
- wukillabee, on 11/21/2008, -3/+6no one cares what mac users think
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+3It has been announced there will be full DivX/XviD support in Windows 7. Not that it's hard to get a filter for it anyway, but it will be working out of the box.
- oli35, on 11/22/2008, -1/+4Buried, because you can't spell buried
:P - Giga, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2This particular black turtleneck is pompous. That's what is wrong with it.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2ei what´s wrong with black turtle necks?
- Namco, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Why wouldn't you want 3.1 of your speakers to sit there silent when listening to 5.1? Most people aren't audio snobs and just want their speakers to work.
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3these days even mac fanboys are beginning to hate apple...
- bratterscain, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Chickenlip, thanks. Sure it's free? I've mentioned of the problem a few times on the Mythtv irc channel and even they didn't know of a free one unless this is something relatively new.
- floejoe, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2It's a transient market, you purchase now with an expectation and knowledge you will be asked to upgrade 2 to 3 years from now again. Same with Windows 7, and Windows 8 will be out before you know it.
XP had an unusually long life cycle but that was due to internal problems with developing Vista. Otherwise, all these products have planned obsolescence. - cdigioia, on 11/22/2008, -2/+3Don't jump to conclusions...we'll see.
- Rockkybox, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2I'm actually tentatively considering buying 7, but do you think Microsoft would be good enough to give a cut price to people who bought vista? Much as I'm happy with vista it seems that we got the short end of the stick,
- LifeNova, on 11/22/2008, -3/+4Windows fanboys
- hartley, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2I personally can't wait for windows 7 on my aging htpc. XP MC ran perfect. VMC is a little laggy at certain moments. 7MC should be all the beauty of VMC, running even better.
Me and My media can't wait.
(if i didnt loose my email from the vista beta, i would be running the 7 beta on that machine right now) - Kamill85, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1McLovin'
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1I had the exact same problem. You need proper drivers for your card, or use PulseAudio or an receiver/amp that can upconvert it.
@dusanmal
It's called simulated surround sound and it's awesome. - darkNiGHTS, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Why not? I've already tried it and it works great.
- DarkShroud, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1MythTV can't read the DRM broadcast flags on premium channels like HBO. Media Center is easy to set up not to mention the IR remote is no hassel what so ever to connect.
- cybrside, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1*you're x2
- talha507, on 12/19/2008, -0/+0now, its time for Windows 7 -
are you ready to Win 7
http://CybersSystem.BlogSpot.com - plainOldFool, on 11/21/2008, -2/+2But can it run Crysis? I am really disappointed in myself now.
- rdwinder, on 11/21/2008, -2/+2all i said was, "cool article" :( your a hater wukillabee
- infiniphunk, on 11/21/2008, -4/+4does it support Ogg Vorbis yet?
- Resiroth, on 11/22/2008, -1/+1You can find a pretty recent build of windows 7 on torrent sites build 6801 and you can also enable the new taskbar. It's very stable, I couldn't believe it wasn't a late beta. It's definitely worth it to check it out.
- coldwind777, on 11/22/2008, -0/+0drifting cover art grid? I always wondered why there seems to be an aversion to a bit of simplicity when it comes to audio playing. Where's the love for the spectrum analyzer?
- zwaldowski, on 11/22/2008, -1/+1Dugg (the article, not you, you *****) because I am a Linux fanboy.
- Rockkybox, on 11/22/2008, -2/+2yeah its 'one of there people' idiot
- stuckinneutral, on 11/21/2008, -8/+7But will it blend?
..just kidding. -
