- demizer, on 01/09/2009, -0/+9I don't know about everyone else, but I don't like cloud computing. I'd rather be in charge of my own cpu cycles, thank you very much.

let's call it something... I know, why not "the Dock"? - burbs, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5I've tried the latest gOS on my Lenovo, and strangely it didn't recognize my WiFi unlike Ubuntu (which this distro is based on, isn't it?). Other than that, it's pretty neat all around to have all the Google apps readily available if you're one be a fan of their products.
- brianguertin, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5where's chrome?

Seems to be a theme with OS sites today. - Danltn, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Direct link: http://thinkgos.com/new/gos.php
- eastcoast1978, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4I think cloud computing will have many uses but people will still want to stick with all the local PC/MAC functions we have today. We will need both.
- 1longtime, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4That's a hilariously wrong statement.
- Izzmo, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4Oh the irony.
- SmellyGeekBoy, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Explain?
- jonstafari, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3its nice, kids, but its not that "new". slightly in the cloud, but when mozilla doled out prism(s), you were able to do the same thing (except you had to make the apps). and if it were truly "cloud", you'd all run your little thin clients instead (or a remote session)
i will give props to g0S, but its really just scaled back (hardware req/system) and customized ubuntu. it just does all the cool pretty stuff out of the box instead of building the components manually. its sweet though, just a different take on a debian distro. - immrlizard, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Cloud computing isn't new. It is a modified version of the old mainframe and dumb terminal. It was proven to be inefficient before, will most likely be done again. It seems that every 10 years or so people go off in this direction.
I don't think the current model is going anywhere any time soon
I do have to say that I do like GOS though. It is lightweight even on older machines - lul101, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2You could setup your own cloud computing server with eyeOS, it's open source. I have been using it for a while now, and it's not bad at all. Granted it's still in early stages, but it does what you want, which is being in control of your own content. Setting up the server is really easy also, all you need is Wamp.
or perhaps i misunderstood the meaning your cpu cycles.. - cawpin, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2And yet it has 140 right now....WTF?
- deviceguru, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2nyud.net to the rescue!
- carterx, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2yey, link working again
- deviceguru, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2...in that case, try this alternate link: http://www.deviceguru.com.nyud.net/gos-gadgets-aim ...
- inc595, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2wonder if my box could withstand the pressure of that which is digg
- dandonia, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2What's wrong with piece of pie
- SisyphusFragmnt, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Stop ***** pastries.
- macewan, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3@Lokonopa, I can see folks only referring to it as an OSX clone while talking about the wbar, but we've had engage, kiba-dock and a slew of others that performed as seen there. The rest appears to be Ubuntu customized to use Google services as apps as in grid computing.
- jonstafari, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1prisms are nice... i think chrome made it obsolete on the windows side of things, since its mostly drag-n-drop to the desktop from chrome, which equals a little prism. i actually find chrome to be a bit more functional that mozilla's prism package, but to each their own.
gOS is tight though, it does everything out of the box, no need to really build anything. but its prettier than running a xubuntu with pretty "features". - Lokonopa, on 01/09/2009, -2/+3gOS 3.0 is fantastic. Some may say it's a OS X clone, but I use almost all of Google services. It's a great addition to my multiboot. Runs smooth with limited dedicated resources under VMware.
- srg13, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1'Cloud computing' is such a stupid term... Just marketing speak to make an old, inefficient (mainframe/terminal) technology sound new and cool...
- synfin, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1"Modifications include a bright green theme..."
I'm not getting it until the planned chartreuse theme comes out. - torressr3, on 01/09/2009, -2/+3digg effect with only 111 diggs?
weak server - SmellyGeekBoy, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1gOS uses Prism a lot, or at least it did when I last tried it (shameless plug: http://www.teamteabag.com/2008/08/14/first-impress ...
It really did show a lot of promise at the time, I'll have to give it a go again. - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -2/+2btw, i found a really bad bug with letmegooglethatforyou.com
there is a way to make it infinitely loop through the search script.
type "cars" into let googlethatforyou.com
with the generated link, cache search it in letmegooglethatforyou.com (cache:(insert generated link) and the link generated from that will loop
http://74.125.77.132/search?btnG=1&q=cache%3Ah ...
that's what you should get...it's funny and probably has a simple solution - inactive, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0To brianguertin:
Can Chrome run on Linux?
As far as i know it doesn't. - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -5/+1http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=cache%3Ahttp%3 ...
here it's working on google cache - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -16/+7I had a danish for breakfast, she was hot.
