- Dankoozy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+39The name sounds too much like bukkake.
- Crimsoneer, on 10/14/2007, -2/+21Great, but been around for ages.
- justinjacobs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15cmd: The only reason Windows isn't mainstream.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14It is very cool, but it will be even better if there was a way it could tell me while it is hidden that some application is asking for confirmation or some job have been done.
BTW there is Tilda for Gnome - canthraxp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11*****: They think that OS's run because of magic. Wake up damnit, windows has CMD but they try to hide it from you. Terminal is THE great thing, you can analyze the space usage from every user on the computer matching a regular expression, sort it in descending orden, and publish it as a text file in one command line, while you're still clicking your dumb way around.
- jnadke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10It would be more kick ass if they had drop-down Quake.
- mrjit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11They're better than OSX app names, imo. (gets dugg down due to mentioning OSX in negative light)
- TheCosmicFool, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11My first thoughts were "nsfw"
- sumguy231, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Damn you, YaKuake! Don't you know you're impeding Linux on the desktop?!
- leszek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You can also use yakuake on Gnome.
- arjie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7See, Kuake, like the Quake console, ya is yet another. I pronounce it Yah-Quake. And, it's not Yuckoo-Ah-Key, if that's what you were thinking.
- lengau, on 10/29/2007, -2/+8Tilda is extremely ugly IMO. But now there's Guake for Gnome, which looks very similar to yakuake.
I've been using yakuake for just under a year now. It's great. - aptiva, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6There is http://docs.blacktree.com/visor/visor
- YamiJim, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8can't live without this, wish they had a windoze equivalent....
- andyakadum, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I wish that wasn't true.
- concept03, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I would love a Windows equivalent for this. I use this at home on my Kubuntu laptop, but it's tough to do without on my XP machine at work. Anyone know of a Windows alternative?
- gameforge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6DiggLive: Hey look, I'm using cmd on Longhorn!
Other teens: Wut? U is a dork

A Teen: Hey look, I'm using Firefox on Linux!
Other teens: Sweet, I keep all my pr0n hidden in Linux on my 'rents PC...
The real question: Does DiggLive work for MS?
[X] On Digg making fun of Linux distro and software names
[X] Windows logo for a user icon
[X] Somehow managed to work MSN into comment
Hmm.... - polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You're a real negative nancy. You know that?
- jambarama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yakuake really runs just fine in gnome, xfce, fluxbox, and about anything else I've ever tried. The kde dependencies aren't heavy, likely it'll just install konsole. No need to use tilda, or guake (unless you want to).
Visor seems to be a decent clone for Macs, anyone found anything similar for Windows? - TheCosmicFool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I must have one of these for my Gnome, can anyone throw out opinions on Guake vs Tilda?
- Blapto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4How? If you're going to be typing in the command line you're going to need your hands on the keyboard anyway.
- kitchensj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I've used this for a while but I recently switched to Kuake because I didn't use the tabs in yakuake.
- cat5, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Actually, there is - Visor - http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070 ...
I use it, and it's more robust and fun than yakuake, especially with some QE backgrounds :)
More information also here: - jambarama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well you could set one up to work with cygwin, or use Microsoft's powershell, or Unix tools for Windows (also a microsoft creation). All of those do an awful lot of stuff - even if the normal cmd.exe is somewhat limited.
Indestructables had a special on how to make a yakuake like thing for Windows: http://www.instructables.com/id/%22Drop-Down%22%2c ... it is kind of an ugly hack using autohotkey but you can tie it to a cygwin terminal (yay!)
I guess PoshConsole (a PowerShell based command shell) also has a quake mode but I haven't tried it yet. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yakuake for kde rocks! using it for 2 years now, its just coold & practical for kde users.
- Hellmark, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Been using yakuake for a long time now, and I really love it.
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Dude. Microsoft used the Codename Longhorn twice to describe two completely separate operating systems....each within three years of each other.
So if you want to talk about confusion......look no further than your own lame Digg icon. - shinynew, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4tilda works fine, i just configure to fill it completely width wise and half length wise. Then set the back ground to pseudo transparency, put the text up a few sizes and it works fine.
I run openbox on a very very old computer. - arjie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4See, Kuake, like the Quake console, ya is yet another. I pronounce it Yah-Quake. And, it's not Yuckoo-Ah-Key, if that's what you were thinking.
- underdog5004, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why? It's not like you can do too much from the command line interface that's included with windows...
- cat5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I forgot to add http://docs.blacktree.com/visor/visor, but aptiva beat me to it below :)
- SleighBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Long-time user, remapped the key to the tilde key and i'm happy. Plus, tabbed (renameable) consoles. A must-have.
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hell, if the best he can come up with is digressing to a 3rd grade level by making fun of a name.....so be it :)
- gameforge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2But you also referred to Gutsy Gibbon, which is the code name of the Ubuntu 7.10 release - I've been using Kubuntu for nearly 2 years now, and I've never once announced to someone that I was using "Dapper Drake" or "Edgy Eft". I say Kubuntu 6.04 or 6.10. That said, when I see an Ubuntu name with two words starting with 'H', I'll know which version it is - the one that will be released in April '08, and hence be 8.04, six months from Gutsy Gibbon which is 7.10.
It's functional, unlike "Longhorn", which is totally ambiguous, and I had to look it up on Wikipedia when I wrote that comment to find out what it was, and I own it!. So once again, referring to your apparent joke about Gutsy Gibbon... either the majority of end users follow code names or they don't.
As for YaKuake, do you suppose there's a freeware program for Windows somewhere with a goofy name? I'll bet if you spent 30 seconds looking around with your Internet Explorer on Windows Vista, you'd find at least a few thousand! - cannonballtrane, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Another interesting 'shell', for Gnome, is Hotwire:
http://code.google.com/p/hotwire-shell/
Check it out - it's a bit like gnome terminal and nautilus had a baby. - xdoute, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i was going to say something about kuake because my friend martin made it, but you beat me to the punch.
- dilibau, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you watch lotsa porn, dontcha? o_O
- vafada, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2got to try this when I get home! go KDE.. more KDE in the front page!
- gameforge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2WTF? Did you read your own comment above? Either they do or they don't. Are you telling me that "Teen on MSN" is a kernel developer and not an end user?
Since you're obviously a Windows nutball, would you kindly un-check the Linux section in your profile so you're not tempted to behave like a three year old brat every time a Linux story is posted? Thanks. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Can't say i have ever used it, anything like this for xfce?
- linksus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3theres one called tilda that acts like a quake console. Quite cool for quick commands.
- lengau, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's nice to have that when I'm using a terminal a lot, but I like having yakuake there so I can quickly enter in a command and forget about it.
- 35263526, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Digg me down.
- Dan2552, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Are you still using Win9x?
- TheShad0w, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just so you know that this was a proof of concept and was an incomplete product. It has several bugs and is missing several standard features.
- has2k1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I have been using it for well over 2 years and I have never hit the PrtScr button.
- PecanHead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah - YaKuake is cool, but the lack of "Monitor for Activity / Monitor for Silence" is a deal-breaker. Frankly I don't know how anybody can use ANY terminal that doesn't do that. Long live Konsole!!!
- Tripcast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've been using this for months now, great application and helps my workflow
- h0m3styl3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wish I knew about this sooner, I've always just mapped a keystroke to open a terminal.
- polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2kmon man....that's harsh
