junauza.com — The best way to write or compose something important using a computer is to do it without any distraction. But how is it possible to concentrate if your email notification keeps on popping, your Twitter updates are flashing, and you are always tempted to open your RSS reader?

- tvanwyk, on 07/25/2008, -0/+1You could always flip over to a virtual terminal and compose your drafts in vi or nano or something. Plain text can be brought into AbiWord (in full screen mode) or OO.o for formatting later. If you want some music, flip over to another tty and load up mp3blaster.
PyRoom does look nice, though.
As much as it sounds counter-intuitive, when it comes to productivity, sometimes it's best to kill X, leave your desktop environment behind for a while, and look for some good old TLI and CLI utilities. - YodaJones, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Wow, reminds me of the Wordstar on DOS days. Nice tip, thanks.
