- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -3/+24support the wine project!!
- KloroFormd, on 11/22/2008, -1/+19Yes.
- DBeta, on 11/21/2008, -2/+20Each release of Wine, even in the x.x.1 releases makes good changes, and fixes bugs for a lot of things. From version 1.1.0 to 1.1.9, a piece of software I use went from almost useless, with bugs at pretty much every mouseclick, to almost perfect, with some minor issues tucked away in the corner.
Truth be told, these "bug fixes" aren't actual bugs, but rather features not yet implemented. The 1.0 branch of WINE has moved faster to build support for other applications than any of the pre1.0 versions. They have finally finished most of the ground work, and are now just building support. - ElectricKetchup, on 11/22/2008, -0/+15it does older version too :P
It'll be awesome when wine has direct X 10 support and windows XP doesn't :) - srg13, on 11/22/2008, -1/+15It has since, what, 2005?
- jlimon, on 11/22/2008, -3/+17That's really short-sighted considering many MANY projects rely on Wine's work.
Google and ReactOS for one need Wine code for their products. How about this? Stop trying dictate what developers do and contribute something yourself. - Vadi0, on 11/21/2008, -0/+13Don't wait, give your app a try now
- thePTS, on 11/22/2008, -0/+13I kinda agree, games are very important. I would easily support a lobby alternative to encourage games developers to test their games on wine first.
- raibman, on 11/22/2008, -2/+14i want direct x support for linux.can wine do it?
- regeya, on 11/22/2008, -0/+11Ah...on one of the last Digg stories, I mentioned a problem with Lego Star Wars II (hey, my 3.5 year old LOVES it...and admittedly so do I...) I just thought it would be fair to mention that I looked at the WineHQ entry on the game, and tried the version of Wine mentioned there, as well as hints people had. Works like a champ using Wine 1.1.3 and DirectX 9. You just have to remember to change dinput and dinput8 to "native" from winecfg, after installing DirectX using winetricks.
I learned about Wine, what, maybe 12 years ago, and I'm just delighted that it's being taken so seriously these days. It's phenomenal to actually have an alternative to Windows that works as well as it does, and to have it work on an operating system which is so alien to the way Windows works makes it that much more astounding. Kudos. - dregin, on 11/22/2008, -2/+12THAN
- zwaldowski, on 11/22/2008, -0/+8And he updated them all today. I was shocked; what a cool guy.
- bj1989, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9I often find myself building wine from source because I can't wait one/two days for the binary package to arrive.
- bj1989, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9Should, but often isn't, as far as I know the ubuntu packaging is done by a single guy.
- thelamer, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7If you are running Ubuntu save yourself the trouble of manually downloading releases and add the wine repository to synaptic.
Instructions here;
http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb
You basically go to synaptic or software sources and in the third party tab click add and add the following text;
deb http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt intrepid main #WineHQ - Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex"
"sudo apt-get update" and you have the latest version or wait for the daily update check. God I love Linux!!!! - csulok, on 11/22/2008, -0/+7can any hardware do that on windows?
- SpyDerMann, on 11/22/2008, -1/+7dirext 10 support is already being developed in WINE.
Hurray! :) - triplec110h, on 11/22/2008, -0/+6wine is good
- inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+7directx 8 or 9 I think

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Scott_Ritchie - Acglaphotis, on 11/22/2008, -1/+6Man, you'd think a windows user would just ignore things in the Linux/Unix section. Why do you even bother? Trolls are getting lazier and lazier.
- Keithamus, on 11/22/2008, -0/+5try Teamspeak; it has a native linux client and is just as good as vent
- werries, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4@wycheck89yo
Open Source developer's main motivation is NOT you and your wishes.
Coding is what they enjoy, they wrote code for things they need to be able to do, and then give it to you out of charity.
So if you want something specific, you're going to have to make it happen yourself. - zeroepoch, on 11/22/2008, -1/+5You can it all works fine.
- werries, on 11/22/2008, -0/+4@Clbull
Yes, it IS too complicated for the average user, and frankly, that doesn't bother me. Its well worth the learning curve, and theres plenty of help available for learning.
I don't mind that not many people use linux, because I like the fact that the main user base is technologically proficient.
Yes, it doesn't run most windows apps, and thats because the OS is inherently different, and the programs weren't written to run on linux. So thats perfectly fine and understandable to me. - deepleet, on 11/22/2008, -1/+5But can it run crysis at playable framerate?
- agentlame, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Odd... I always see the update before the Digg article.
Installed it about 3hrs ago. - PCBEEF, on 11/22/2008, -3/+6Wine Is Not an Emulator
And linux OSes are not crap. Most companies can't live without linux. - amfantasy, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3It should be released the same day for OpenSuSE (Build Service), and Ubuntu
- Kingoftherings, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3I'm using Wine. Crossover is basically the same as Wine, it seems to be only good for Macs. I didn't see any difference in games I run with Crossover.
- Clbull, on 11/22/2008, -1/+4It does, but not without issues.
- MrTea, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3mumble is superior and works great on both platforms
- Step1Mark, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3yup basically the same guys. Its a way to help get funding for the project.
- rac1234, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Or if you're conservative and want a stable build rather than a testing build, just install Wine from the Ubuntu repository. That's currently version 1.0.1.
- werries, on 11/22/2008, -0/+3Yes, anything it will break, will then be fixed.
You're welcome
-TCFTBGAMWTWPAUT.
(The Committee For Taking Bad Grammar and Misused Words the Way People Accidentally Used Them) - kiput, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Actually. Teamspeak is a crap. It doesn't support ALSA, which makes it utterly useless.
- Serveck, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3works fine, just requires a bit more technical knowlage and a bit of setup of your video drivers and microphone otherwise it works fine.
- mrsteveman1, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2People who didn't know about it? I grabbed it as soon as i found out, others didn't. Then again, this is OS X so wine isn't really a choice, crossover is the only one that integrates correctly and works well.
- PCBEEF, on 11/22/2008, -2/+4Some applications run better under Linux, some under Windows.
I use Ubuntu because I find most of what I do works better under Linux (mainly development work) but I also use Wine to run windows applications when needed. Best of both worlds. - Ajzimm3rman, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Nice. +1
- regeya, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Um...do a whois on winehq.com.

651-523-9300 - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3***** if they got my games working in Ubuntu, I'd ditch windows 100%
I already use ubuntu for everything but my games. - inactive, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2Thanks!
- thePTS, on 11/22/2008, -0/+2yeah sounds like a real disadvantage to have most of what windows has + everything linux has..
I hope something cushioned your fall when you fell off that thing and hurt your head. - Gogogo111, on 11/22/2008, -1/+3I would honestly switch if I could get Ventrilo to work on it. It just does not like my computer.
- JoelJ, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2That's not wine's job. There's others that focus on making games work.
- flibblesan, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1better to use the PPA for Ubuntu Wine Team at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive
"New Wine packages are built here before being uploaded to the budgetdedicated.com repository for WineHQ. Packages here also serve as a testbed for harsher changes that might break things." - Ajzimm3rman, on 11/22/2008, -1/+2You are a homosexual.
- LingNoi, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1If anyone wants to help test the new xinput code the dude that wrote it in wine is looking for people with xbox 360 controllers.
