- sirhomer, on 09/20/2008, -3/+55I miss seeing Wine articles on the front page. Come on we can do this!

- superppl, on 09/19/2008, -0/+37We've pretty much lost all of our previous popularity. Heck, we don't even make the front page anymore!
- twertyto, on 09/20/2008, -0/+36A tech story on the front page?
Maybe these bans are doing something right. - beamster, on 09/20/2008, -10/+45W.I.N.E. is not an emulator.
- TeacherOfHeroes, on 09/19/2008, -3/+33So are these comments about how its getting boring. If you aren't interested, ignore it.
- wukillabee, on 09/20/2008, -14/+37nice emulator
- blooby, on 09/19/2008, -0/+23It is a sad state of affairs... since 1.1.2 there's been no love for wine :(
- t3hmyth, on 09/20/2008, -0/+22Dugg for irony.
- Step1Mark, on 09/20/2008, -1/+23Its obviously a joke.

Can not resolve WINE - giving up. - nerddtvg, on 09/20/2008, -0/+15Wine has really been on a roll recently. Keep up the work!
- 4321234, on 09/20/2008, -0/+14We better digg this to the front page before somebody submits a lolcat to break the McCain combo.
- beamster, on 09/20/2008, -0/+13Here we go fellas. Front paged.
- Step1Mark, on 09/20/2008, -0/+12Thank you! Its like digg works in waves and we havent been getting any techy ones as of late.
- srg13, on 09/20/2008, -0/+11Yes.
- Namco, on 09/20/2008, -3/+14Wine is a joke?
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -0/+11Cue wine-ers complaining about it being front page.
- zcreem, on 09/20/2008, -0/+11A lot of people seem to think wine is a dead horse because of all the VM's out there, but it is an amazing piece of code that integrates well and runs a hell of a lot of software well.
Now lets stop wineing and get this to the front page. - tito13kfm, on 09/20/2008, -0/+11Still waiting on repository to update with latest version. Is Spore Creature Creator in a usable state yet, without patching? I want to give it a whirl, but don't want to patch the source and build a new version just to screw around making penis monsters.
- beamster, on 09/20/2008, -0/+10Yes, better to link to a blog that links to an article that links to the originating source.
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -1/+11I didn't say anything bad about it... I love Wine. I thought it was interesting that they fixed a bug from ***** 97 though - Even after so long, they still have to fix bugs from that stuff. It must be discouraging being that guy who has to Checkout the repository, make a build, and run Word97 and try to find there way around fixing the bug... I mean, It's Word97 O_O
- talkingwires, on 09/20/2008, -1/+10*Whoosh*
- werries, on 09/20/2008, -0/+9Actually this is really exciting for me. :)
- kishosingh, on 09/20/2008, -0/+8" - Substantial JavaScript implementation.
- Partial support for layered windows.
- Support for Unicode file export in Regedit.
- Proper exception handling in widl-generated code.
- Asynchronous requests and cookies support in WinHTTP.
- Various bug fixes." Mainly these features will help which is new. - sq377, on 09/20/2008, -0/+8...Seriously?
http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page - 4DFX, on 09/20/2008, -1/+9Go back to 4chan.
- KloroFormd, on 09/20/2008, -0/+8New or old, the more they fix the better.
- t3hmyth, on 09/20/2008, -4/+12@beamster
I dunno why you're getting buried... I guess not enough users are familiar with the origins of WINE's name... - ramenite, on 09/20/2008, -0/+7Because it was a flaw in Wine's Windows implementation. A bug was filed, and it was fixed. Considering it's Word 97, it was probably a regression(it worked, now it doesn't). These are important bugs to fix.
Actually, some older programs, and a lot of offbeat programs are some of the best to test with Wine. They use things that a lot of apps don't use, so it's a good test to see if ALL of a given part's functionality works. Also they could be working around a bug in Windows itself. For example, some function is DOCUMENTED to only return 0 or 1, and some app expects it to return a 2, and it returns 2 in Windows, Wine fixes it. - Smegzor, on 09/20/2008, -0/+7Yes
- ciderax, on 09/20/2008, -1/+8well, think about it this way... windows can't run linux programs without use of a program either, it's their own formats native to the operating system. from what I hear linux is faster and more stable taking advantage of new technologies and constant kernal updates... it's just the amount of people that are using it that's holding it back since companies only wish to develop for highly used operating systems and people won't switch over because their favorite windows programs won't run. so it's a catch 22, wine is attempting to bridge that gap, and fortunately it's not a emulator but a full rebuild of windows for linux. for example, it's not like you have to open wine and after that open your .exe file, once you have wine you can open .exe files without even knowing wine exists. they have come a long way and are starting to release quicker and better updates with more and more programmers hopping into it. If you give *I'de suggest OpenSuse 11 a try* because I love the looks of it's gnome, I think it's closer to my windows feel and organization... you'll see why it's better, even simple things like taking a screenshot are better.
if you're not into games but just typical stuff linux has it all, firefox, thunderbird, torrent programs like (vuze), frostwire, ability to open all your divx and other movies... I mean you name it, it has it. - bobbknight, on 09/20/2008, -5/+11Dode, you try to fix this *****, in your spare time, while you try to make a living, as you guess how to link into Microsoft's undocumented "features".
- Smegzor, on 09/20/2008, -0/+5I don't have Windows installed, yet I can still play all my Windows games. For everything else I usually run stuff in VirtualBox which can now run 64 bit OS's.
I install every game in its own copy of WINE which means I can remove any games I toast or that toast WINE simply by deleting the offending WINE folder. Similarly, I can delete my virtual XP and restore an archived good copy.
Having said all that, I paid $2,500 to M$ for a developers license a few years ago so they aren't hurt in the least by my move to free software. - stuffradio, on 09/20/2008, -1/+5Replying to the wrong thread again... are we?
- bsmang, on 09/20/2008, -1/+4Windows is too hard to install. Or it takes too long anyway.. After it spends half of forever "installing", you find that the job has only just begun as you then need to start working on installing drivers so you can do things like print stuff, hear sounds, get network access, have more than 256 colors, etc. Though I must admit I haven't tried installing Vista. Maybe it's less work than XP was.

- manitoba98xp, on 09/20/2008, -0/+3Technically speaking, WINE is a compatibility layer against which Windows applications can run – but it does not fully recreate all aspects of Windows.
- aznpwnzor, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2AWESOME just tried to put chrome on yesterday i guess im saved
- Smegzor, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2@porkman385
The open source Windows is called ReactOS. I wouldn't use it myself, but since you asked, there it is :P - bsmang, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2Oh, I forgot to throw in the need to blow it away and reinstall once in a while to clear out all the malware that builds up crap in the damned thing. That's mostly why a long hard setup sucks.
You do have a point though... Linux was harder to set up then too.. But it has come a long way since. Still curious about installing Vista, but I've been out of the warez scene for most of my adult life and don't plan to buy a copy, so I may never have to experience it. - DomZy, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2Where can I get cxchrome?
edit:
nevermind: http://www.codeweavers.com/services/ports/chromium ...
It crashes as soon as I googled for google. - inactive, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2Lol, sounds like when I try to use my own code.
I fail at complex applications in C++... - thushan, on 09/20/2008, -0/+2Cheers!
