- jman583, on 07/18/2009, -4/+58Thanks to Digg I no longer have to check the wine website for updates. All of them hit the front page.
- PhotonIT, on 07/18/2009, -3/+47yup :)
- srg13, on 07/18/2009, -3/+42I'm glad the tradition is still alive - Wine is an awesome and rapidly changing project - they deserve the attention. It's also a nice reminder that Digg was once a great tech site...
- Smegzor, on 07/18/2009, -7/+43Yay! Another Wine update! :D
- Matt2k, on 07/18/2009, -2/+25That's a fair concern, but ultimately it relies upon you having a copy of the underlying operating system. And if you can run a outside the virtual machine, that's a far more attractive option anyway.
Wine, and wine related technologies, also finds parts itself in many other projects. The EA games that run on PC and Mac use a similar technology. The 3D acceleration that virtual machines are recently taking advantage of uses Wine or similar tech to do so in the emulation of a virtual 3D accelerator and translating D3D calls. So even if you don't use Wine directly, you're probably still using something that's benefited from it. - Metoz, on 07/18/2009, -2/+25Except it's not an emulator.
- ChiaGod, on 07/18/2009, -1/+20Nice, 58 bugs fixed! Which emphasizes the importance in reporting bugs, they will be addressed.
- holzp, on 07/18/2009, -2/+17# Very lazy description
- noslodecoy, on 07/18/2009, -1/+15"Wine Is Not an Emulator" ;)
- Moralogic, on 07/18/2009, -1/+14I can't wait for the Mac equivalent. Once FCP can work on Linux, I will be converting every computer I can get my hands on to Linux.
- InMSWeAntitrust, on 07/18/2009, -1/+14This is the best Wine update ever!
- Eezyville, on 07/18/2009, -12/+22Are we gonna do this every single time?
- SteveMax, on 07/18/2009, -1/+10Did this "duel" boot include pistols or sabres? Was it to the death?
- ATL, on 07/18/2009, -1/+9Matt2k, a good example is Google Picasa for Linux. It very obviously uses Wine.
- PRlME, on 07/18/2009, -3/+11List of things to ask god:
Where do sox go?
Where does the little plastic tab from opening the bread go?
Whats up with the Bermuda Triangle?
Why the ***** does every version release of wine make it to digg front page? - ruskie, on 07/18/2009, -6/+14you're quite the contributor extraordinarie yourself =)
- Gudeldar, on 07/18/2009, -2/+9Blame yourself, I only digg these to annoy people like you who complain in the comments.
- heiroglyph, on 07/18/2009, -2/+8I guess all the people who dug this care. They got it onto the front page.
I still don't get why people bother to reply to stories they don't like. - kevinmoore, on 07/18/2009, -0/+6Read what Moralogic wrote. He was an Mac OS API layer he can run on Linux.
- Khast, on 07/18/2009, -4/+10if you already have it installed... you could always run update in your version of Linux, you'd probably get the update before it is even posted to digg.
just sayin' - Kabloink, on 07/18/2009, -5/+11People that use wine care. It's similar to the Apple fans getting all excited every time an update to the iPhone software is released.
- EagleTG, on 07/18/2009, -0/+5Plastic tab from the bread is under the toaster. (Or maybe the tab is in the Bermuda Triangle?)
Can't help on the other three. - RobotBuddha, on 07/18/2009, -0/+5If you've added wine's 3rd party repository. Most linux distros are slow as hell in updating their wine builds.
- amitait, on 07/18/2009, -2/+7 - Still more translation updates.
- Faster bitmap stretching using XRender.
- Proxy support in WinHTTP.
- Many more JScript functions.
- Various bug fixes. - fla2, on 07/18/2009, -1/+5Wine certainly is useful. The fact that Microsoft who owns the source code is choosing virtualization in Windows 7 for XP Mode is telling about VM being a "complete solution". There are certainly specific cases where Wine is the best solution.
- RobotBuddha, on 07/18/2009, -1/+4Gaming is now the only reason I use windows. All the other windows programs I want to use now run perfectly in wine. But gaming is still a pretty big need, and one that's not going to be solved by VMs. Aside from a VM using wine code or something similar for D3D.
- Runningflame570, on 07/19/2009, -1/+3Can you play FSX on Windows? It brings just about any hardware to its knees.
- ghostborg, on 07/18/2009, -1/+3Crap, updated to this version of Wine and now DVDfab HD decrypter 6.022 crashes
- akurashy, on 07/18/2009, -1/+2There is also vmware... virtualbox blah blah I prefer it more to dual booting
I just wish there was a breakthrough in supporting nprotect gameguard and other antihack mechanism
ohwell *shrugs* - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1A chubby... Really?
- Gudeldar, on 07/18/2009, -1/+2Apparently the 378 who have dugg this so far.
- Phi01, on 07/18/2009, -2/+3Wake me up when i can play FSX on wine...
- Aynoori, on 08/10/2009, -0/+1Sorry, I do not need it.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -0/+1See now THOSE are emulators...
- t0x2c, on 07/18/2009, -0/+1I feel that one day someone will ask god (or a god) "Do you really exist" and he will respond with an extremely philosophical explanation about how none of us really exist, or how existence is relative.
- Phi01, on 07/22/2009, -0/+1I can play no problem, in fairness, u can put the settings down on the game and get decent fps.
- RobotBuddha, on 07/18/2009, -1/+2Isn't darwine pretty much moot compared to using normal wine under osx?
- Rammal, on 07/18/2009, -6/+6I totally agree with you.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+0Except, it is. Punch yourself in the dick, get up, go to the mirror and say to yourself, "Emulation does NOT require the emulation of hardware". I know you are just ignorant and repeating what other have read on the developer's web site, but as you've also been told, ignorance is no excuse.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -1/+1Because ***** idiots like YOU are part of the problem.
- Azathothh, on 07/26/2009, -2/+2so?
- mem4, on 07/18/2009, -1/+0you could always just cvs build it rather than wait for stupid point releases.
- cyssero, on 07/18/2009, -5/+3This is the best Wine release ever!
- brim4brim, on 07/18/2009, -3/+1Ms aren't known for using the best solution but the easiest for them and generally the most costly on hardware.
Just look at Vista. The only reason Windows 7 is everyone finally said common and stuck with XP. - mathcreative, on 07/18/2009, -3/+1that from the xkcd comments?
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -5/+1Here's hoping your fat ass burns in hell, LtGenPanda.
- cheez124, on 07/19/2009, -7/+2every damn update of this makes the front page!!
