- greengreed, on 06/13/2008, -5/+97Firefox 3 is coming on 17th and Wine 1.0 on 20th. Damn, I cant wait so long. I'm gonna freeze myself.
- inactive, on 06/14/2008, -5/+44This is a sad event in some ways as MS hasn't yet changed direction enough to allow for projects like this to be unnecessary.
- naz37, on 06/14/2008, -0/+39On June 20th look out for flying chairs.
- cl0n3x, on 06/14/2008, -4/+42Congrats! Looking forward to the next 15 years of development for version 2.
- greengreed, on 06/14/2008, -0/+30That's true, but it's not just about the bug fixes it will bring. 1.0 is a big milestone for the Wine project. Having waited for so long I'm happy that it is finally being released. It's the Duke Nukem Forever of the linux/unix world, started 15 years ago.
- dualscreenman, on 06/13/2008, -1/+26It's more like one week, according to Julliard. (June 20th, mark your calendars!)
*EDIT* Actually, I've seen anywhere from the 17th to the 20th. Winehq says it should be in a few days, so it's probably going to be one week at the most. - Gryffydd, on 06/14/2008, -2/+25That's the difference between commercial software and OSS. A version 1.0 OSS has truly been tried and tested. A 1.0 commercial software program is basically a first beta.
- ileftfark, on 06/14/2008, -1/+22"Pizza for I. C. Weiner? oh...."
- gAquila, on 06/13/2008, -10/+30Cheers! Only a few weeks away from 1.0.
- romulasry, on 06/14/2008, -3/+23Jun 19 is the openSUSE 11.0 Release, so close to Wine 1.0 ;p
- anonm, on 06/14/2008, -10/+27fap fap fap fap
- InorganicMatter, on 06/14/2008, -4/+21Oh yeah, another release candidate, TO THE FRONT PAGE!!!!!!!
- mossblaser, on 06/14/2008, -1/+161) Wine Is Not an Emulator
2) I don't give 2 ***** about windows, but I do want to play valve's games - nunofgs, on 06/14/2008, -0/+15That rhymed :)
- inactive, on 06/14/2008, -0/+14The only reason it doesn't work is because of some font issues... Just grab the fonts.
- gavintlgold, on 06/14/2008, -0/+14Any new things with HL2 and directx 9? Still slow? (I'm going to try and let all know)
- thevoiceless, on 06/14/2008, -1/+14Running Windows programs is just a bonus. Wine's real purpose is supreme Digg domination.
- Echomote, on 06/14/2008, -1/+14and the "but can it play crysis?" guy.
- richbradshaw, on 06/14/2008, -0/+13I'm gonna finally be able to run Firefox 3.0 in Wine 1.0!
- truspect0r, on 06/14/2008, -4/+16Only 15 more years for 2.0!
- BlueSkyfish, on 06/14/2008, -1/+12Err... its just the release candidate with some bug fixes. You basically have the same thing right now.
- KaiUno, on 06/14/2008, -2/+12Never gonna happen!
- phorty40, on 06/14/2008, -0/+10what about the Duke Nukem Forever guy?
- uhhNo, on 06/14/2008, -0/+9that's because you are using windows (probably).
- sinatosk, on 06/14/2008, -0/+9last I heard... they've deferred that to 1.2.0
- potterboy, on 06/14/2008, -1/+10It's a misspelled version of lunix.
- wastedpanda, on 06/14/2008, -4/+13What's a Linux?
- GMorgan, on 06/14/2008, -1/+9So only 5 years then.
- tnoy, on 06/14/2008, -1/+9Or he can want and use a binary package like a normal person. Its the elitist-***** "I only compile things from source" Linux users like yourself that are one of the causes the adoption of Linux to slow down.
- smacksaw, on 06/14/2008, -3/+11Hopefully when Wine is done, Wine-Doors can be perfected.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+8Of course. That's a "feature" of Win32 that they've successfully implemented.
/Not kidding; they actually did have to implement Win32's erratic behavior because a lot of programs depend on it - sexybobo, on 06/14/2008, -2/+9then again they did say 6 months 15 years ago.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -2/+9Windows and Norton are too much trouble when Linux works just fine for security. Sorry but it's the truth.
- ArgonTime, on 06/14/2008, -2/+9Then don't use the software. He told you how to fix it yourself, don't complain because you're too ***** lazy to do it.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+6At the very least they should package some free fonts that are vaguely similar to the M$ ones and name them appropriately as placeholders until someone actually recreates the fonts.
- marine63, on 06/14/2008, -5/+11plz fix starcraft battle.net ....
- YokoZar, on 06/14/2008, -4/+10When Wine is "done" there won't be a need for Wine-Doors.
- mossblaser, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6Man the next few days are just going to be awesome. Can't wait for any of these projects!
- srg13, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6I think that within the next 15 years what will eventually happen is that Wine will have implemented everything needed to run the legacy niche apps will be the only ones that anyone will still be using Windows for.
- inactive, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6It's illegal for them to package the fonts and keep it free and open source?
- sirhomer, on 06/14/2008, -1/+7It's called the Mono project:
http://www.mono-project.org/
The newest version includes support for Linq and various .NET 3.5 features. The compiler does C# 3.0. - mossblaser, on 06/14/2008, -1/+7It depends - I can get good (well just above playabale) on 8series cards on 9 with glsl on wine for halflife but on older cards it is unplayable. Running in DX8 mode is very playable though.
- ElbertF, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6That didn't work well for Cartman waiting for the Wii..
- celkin, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6Be careful, or you'll freeze yourself too far and have to wait for FF6...but hey, at least you'll have holographic tabs.
- theaceoffire, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6It would be easier/faster to build/make a replacement.
- Birdoftruth, on 06/14/2008, -6/+11When the hell is integrated .net framework coming?
- exspasticcomics, on 06/14/2008, -1/+6it's a series of video games- the most popular version is called 'ubuntu'
http://www.flickr.com/photos/27373994@N02/25543103 ... - Kamujin, on 06/14/2008, -0/+5.NET Framework 2.0 runs on wine I think.
I know I have it installed and it works for my simple uses.
Also, Mono limits the need for .NET Framework on wine. - ism70605, on 06/14/2008, -0/+5There is no use for Darwine unless you are stuck on PPC; however, if you are using intel, Wine can just be compiled and used to run Windows programs. Firstly you need to install Apple's Xcode. Remember that Wine has dependencies: flex and bison.
DirectX will work; however, Wine will complain about no hardware renderer for OpenGL, so it is ever slow.
I suspect this to be a problem with Apple's X11. X.ORG currecntly will not compile on Leopard (based on my attempts alone), and the new version is painfully behind. - noerrorsfound, on 06/14/2008, -1/+6Who mentioned iPods?
