- knight666, on 05/10/2008, -48/+10What does the rc mean?
Also:
Holy crap give yourself a pat on the back Wine team you're really really REALLY close to that magical 1.0 now!- Andytom, on 05/10/2008, -2/+56rc means release candidate
- sajchurchey, on 05/10/2008, -19/+0A long way from build dates :)
- sirhomer, on 05/10/2008, -2/+41RCs, or release candidate are is usually the final stage in a software cycle towards the final release. By final release it means typically the next major version (such as 1.0, 2.0, etc.) Other stages of development include pre-alpha (planning/prototype stage), alpha (incomplete software), and beta (mostly complete, but untested software). Different software projects may have differing processes however.
- hinmanj, on 05/10/2008, -9/+2Alpha is the term for feature complete, meaning all the major features of the software are already done.
Beta is done, but off to the QA team for testing.
Gold (at least for games) means it's done and ready to be shipped.
Just thought I'd add that little extra in, in case anyone cared at all.

- rpgmaker, on 05/10/2008, -6/+3Digg has come a long way...
- jerrycan, on 05/10/2008, -3/+14Reconsider College.
- XVampireX, on 05/11/2008, -1/+2They just went from 0.9.61 to 1.0rc1 doesn't quite make sense why you['re praising them for getting to the "magical" 1.0 ...
- jimthenglishman, on 05/10/2008, -4/+122i guess 15 years of work finally paid off…
- Taiyoryu, on 05/10/2008, -6/+31Just in time for Vista!
- SpyDerMann, on 05/10/2008, -17/+6Wait a sec, there are still a ton of apps and games that don't work, and the API implementation still is missing a lot of functions. How dare they make a feature freeze?
- SuperWinner, on 05/10/2008, -5/+89I'm releasing Beer 1.0.545 from my fridge in about 5 minutes!
- seqizz, on 05/10/2008, -34/+6lol
here is my comment..- mikas36, on 05/11/2008, -1/+0Here is my comment. It's bigger then yours. And it brings the boys to the yard

- ferric84, on 05/10/2008, -14/+27sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade wine- dualscreenman, on 05/10/2008, -5/+34That won't get you latest Wine. The latest Ubuntu has is a slightly modified version of 0.9.59.
Be a man and compile it yourself. ;)- airmind, on 05/10/2008, -1/+17Not if you have this: http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb
- kenplaysviola, on 05/10/2008, -5/+28Strange, apt-get doesn't seem to work on my (insert non-debian based Linux distro). I guess I must not be using Linux ...
- iRelinquish, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5pclinux uses apt and its an rpm based distro?
- srg13, on 05/10/2008, -4/+7"pclinux uses apt and its an rpm based distro?"
You don't need a question mark at the end of a statement?- iRelinquish, on 05/10/2008, -2/+10i know, i just throw it there to ***** people off like you?
- BlaenkDenum, on 05/10/2008, -0/+13While you bring up a valid point, you're one of the reasons Linux doesn't take off. Noobs or Average Joes getting used to Ubuntu, feeling proud of themselves for learning a simple command and you come and shatter their hopes by confusing them and making them think that they somehow have to be 'politically correct' when speaking about Linux. Linux is about choice, nowhere do I see a rule saying that whenever I speak of installing a program I /have/ to mention the generic ./configure, make, make install method to make sure all Linux users benefit. I see a lot of elitist Gentoo users go around bragging with 'emerge porn', no one's telling them any different. Ubuntu is arguably the most popular Desktop Distribution, you should be proud that Linux has come this far and that people are even referencing it in the first place. Your methods of installing programs might be different, but in the end we're all Linux users.
- djbon2112, on 05/10/2008, -2/+6Amen. Distro infighting about stupidly pointless things like the package manager of choice (and window manager of choice) are what I think is keeping Linux down. If someone googles "-problem x- linux" they're probably going to get a solution for many distros, hence confusing them. With Windows, it's 99.9% of the time going to be something about the current release. Yes, choice is important, but are a billion and one separate forks and distros really the right embodiment of choice?
- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -5/+5Or use the official Wine .debs (don't add their repo, as it really slows down APT, and their releases are rather infrequent anyways).
- Buu700, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1btw http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html
- BlaenkDenum, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1...or just enable the backports repository.
But yeah, sudo apt-get update is mainly to update the cache with the sources.list file, I /THINK/ (For example when you add a new repository).
- Purin, on 05/10/2008, -3/+16emerge --sync && layman -S

- oblique63, on 05/10/2008, -0/+11or just: echo "wine" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
- bejayel, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1isnt it "app-emulators/wine" or something?
- childprey, on 05/10/2008, -2/+10oh come on if you're gonna use portage use vi. ; p
- SteveMax, on 05/10/2008, -3/+1Real gentooers have USE=emacs ;)
- mdramige, on 05/10/2008, -1/+11And you can go watch the LOTR trilogy while it compiles.
- iRelinquish, on 05/10/2008, -6/+5seriously gentoo users know how to manage there own systems
- podgey22, on 05/10/2008, -0/+16but they don't know the difference between "their", "there" and "they're"..
- iRelinquish, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3or there crazy tired

- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2You do realize that almost no Linux systems use LILO nowadays, right?
- Gonasadude, on 05/10/2008, -6/+2man the-*****-article
It said the release candidate wont spread to the public mirrors for a bit because of lag. - McMagic, on 05/10/2008, -8/+3Why doesn't this work with Gutsy, and why isn't a gutsy release included on the DL page?
- oblique63, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1you could always just compile it....
- sevenalive, on 05/10/2008, -2/+4Get Hardy, its been out for 2 weeks.
- theWrkncacnter, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2if you can't get hardy, just replace all instances of "hardy" with "gutsy" to use the gutsy repository.
So "sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d ... -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list" becomes "sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d ... -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list"
- dualscreenman, on 05/10/2008, -5/+34That won't get you latest Wine. The latest Ubuntu has is a slightly modified version of 0.9.59.
- HCviolence, on 05/10/2008, -0/+73Wine 1.0? BRACE FOR IMPACT!!!
- pedepy, on 05/10/2008, -43/+6still no CS3 = fail
- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -3/+46still no Linux support = fail
- MavRevMatt, on 05/10/2008, -2/+22Not only for CS3, but for much of what Adobe makes.
- Amiga500, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4still no toaster oven support = fail
- MikeCerm, on 05/10/2008, -21/+2Using verb instead of noun for comedic effect = FAIL
Seriously, the whole "EPIC FAIL" thing is really not funny anymore, if it ever was. It's been beaten to death, and is now about as fresh and original as "ALL YOUR BASE...".- Echomote, on 05/10/2008, -2/+15You fail.
- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -2/+12All your fail are belong to me.
- str1fe, on 05/10/2008, -1/+17Fail level is over 9000
- manicmailman, on 05/10/2008, -1/+6i award you 100 failed internets
- nyx210, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9I put on my robe and EPIC FAIL hat...
- BritneySpears14, on 05/10/2008, -0/+6What the f*ck, I told you not to message me again.
- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -3/+46still no Linux support = fail
- shaherazad, on 05/10/2008, -17/+7What does 1.0 mean?
- Giga, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5Usually means "finished product release" or something similar, depending how you interpret it.
- nyx210, on 05/10/2008, -2/+2Major Release #1. When software reaches this point, it's usually sellable.
- str1fe, on 05/10/2008, -0/+10It's a smiley. The eye on the left is a scar.
- srg13, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3Depends on the software. Wine picked a few applications (Photoshop CS2 is one of them) that has to work perfectly before they release 1.0.
- neko, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4It can also mean that they're happy with Wine's internal architecture - there won't be any need for major structural changes now, even when support for more applications is added.
- Giga, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5Usually means "finished product release" or something similar, depending how you interpret it.
- harrisbradley, on 05/10/2008, -2/+54longest pre-release evar (I am stoked though!)
- silfiriel, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2just hold on for the release! you'll experience longevity on a whole new level!
- SteveMax, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Now mplayer has a chance to beat them at that (even though everybody just picks up an SVN version and patches it to a releasable state).
- superppl, on 05/10/2008, -2/+8Nice to see that I'm not the only one excited by the upcoming 1.0 release.
Will have to test this out as soon as possible.- ha1f, on 05/10/2008, -1/+24You must be _very_ new here if you think you're the only one excited by this...
- Echomote, on 05/10/2008, -2/+8makes a nice change from "Why is this on the front page!?" though.
- ha1f, on 05/10/2008, -1/+24You must be _very_ new here if you think you're the only one excited by this...
- lnappropriate, on 05/10/2008, -3/+62Dx10 on wine? OH YEAH
- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -4/+5Wine 1.0 has Dx10?
- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -2/+6Okay, just checked. The DirectX 10 implementation in wine is currently 0% complete. Then why was I Dugg down? (And for that matter why was Inappropriate's misleading comment Dugg up?
- jjones20, on 05/10/2008, -10/+26more like wine nukem forever.
- TheRealToma, on 05/10/2008, -0/+38Now thats a Wine release worth digging! Good work all involved :)
- lnappropriate, on 05/10/2008, -9/+29Anyone notice this:
9178 "hello world" dos program hangs
ROFL I wonder how it runs advanced games when it can't do this- zwaldowski, on 05/10/2008, -2/+17I assume you're using Ubuntu Hardy. The kernel it (hardy) uses causes a DOS memory error in Wine because the kernel now protects a certain amount of memory to protect itself from being attacked.
- dualscreenman, on 05/10/2008, -0/+13This isn't the preloader error, which I believe you are referring to. This is a much older error that affected just about all DOS programs even before Hardy's new kernel.
- zwaldowski, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2True, but most people would identify it in the new Hardy kernel. The preloader memory protection was added in 2.6.24.
- dualscreenman, on 05/10/2008, -0/+13This isn't the preloader error, which I believe you are referring to. This is a much older error that affected just about all DOS programs even before Hardy's new kernel.
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -0/+18It can. The bug just got fixed :) It would be a little disconcerting if it took 15 years, but in fairness, it can also run more complex things such as WoW.
- sevenalive, on 05/10/2008, -4/+1Yes now you can waste 15 years playing wow on wine!
- irieKEN, on 05/10/2008, -0/+22The idea that WINE would have problems running DOS applications doesn't bother me, because Windows != DOS. DOSBOX for DOS applications, WINE for Windows applications:)
- Justathought, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1I have been waiting for years for this one. ;)
- zwaldowski, on 05/10/2008, -2/+17I assume you're using Ubuntu Hardy. The kernel it (hardy) uses causes a DOS memory error in Wine because the kernel now protects a certain amount of memory to protect itself from being attacked.
- phatboye, on 05/10/2008, -20/+3What is so special about a number? This is a bug release, what is the big deal?
- reventlov, on 05/10/2008, -1/+16Traditionally, the 1.0 version (in open source software, especially) means they have complete stable product. They are no longer adding new features and will _only_ work on bug fixes until they release 1.0. And yes, 1.0 is just a number, but it also represents a major milestone in their efforts. The big deal is that this has been a long time coming.
- Amiga500, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Traditionally? Yes. However, this does not hold true in the case of Wine. Along with the "Wine is not an emulator" slogan, this is good PR spin, which is just another trademark of the dev team over at Wine.
- sarusa, on 05/10/2008, -1/+5It means they think it's 'done' enough to call it a release candidate. It's a necessary stage along the alpha -> beta -> rc -> release path for a real product.
It means you can say 'almost' when people ask you ARE WE THERE YET? - mithrasinvictus, on 05/10/2008, -0/+9Imagine XP SP3 as equivalent to OSS version 1.0

- rouge568, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3632 bugs left!
- lickmyback, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7Yeah, but I'm glad they nailed this one:
"9178 "hello world" dos program hangs"
That was really chapping my caboose.- ThatsNotPudding, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2They have a cream for that now.
- Amiga500, on 05/10/2008, -1/+382 new bugs reported!
- lickmyback, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7Yeah, but I'm glad they nailed this one:
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2I recall mention of an upcoming code freeze (no new fixes and changes -- so that any bugs can be ironed out before full release). With a release candidate out, does that mean it has begun? If not, when will that be?
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2Ah - never mind. I don't know how I missed this before (yes, I had skimmed TFA article before, but I'm apparently retarded)---
"What's new in this release (see below for details):
- Bug fixes only, we are in code freeze."
That would have been a good thing to put in the headline -- It's a significant development. Now I'm wondering what constitutes a bugfix. I would hope that only fixes to regressions, or fixes to bugfixes, are what is really allowed. Because WINE sure has a lot of bugs..- Protoss, on 05/10/2008, -3/+4TFA=The ***** Article...
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3That's what I meant. Though I guess someone could be confused since it's not preceded by R. I guess technically speaking, they're release notes.
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1For excessive clarification-.. dualscreenman and I were typing our comments at the same time. Mine happened to get through sooner. The "FTA" in his post would usually mean "From The Article" (more polite than TFA).
- Buu700, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3@blagoaw
Protoss is referring to the fact that you effectively said "I had skimmed the ***** article article before"- blagoaw, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Ah, gotcha. I nearly didn't notice it in your post either (had to read it about 10 times first).
- Protoss, on 05/10/2008, -3/+4TFA=The ***** Article...
- dualscreenman, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1FTA: "Bug fixes only, we are in code freeze."
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4?? from the submitter's description -- "What's new in this release: Bug fixes only, we are in code freeze."
I think I'll pack it in for tonight. Good night folks.
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2Ah - never mind. I don't know how I missed this before (yes, I had skimmed TFA article before, but I'm apparently retarded)---
- missingnoh4x, on 05/10/2008, -17/+61.0? Didn't they say that number would be reserved for when Wine has perfect compatibility with everyth - Oh holy *****, don't tell me they've finally done it? ***** yes Wine.
- colincornaby, on 05/10/2008, -0/+22Sadly, they haven't. They're bumping it to 1.0 in time for some anniversary of when they started working on it. I wish they had stuck with the "1.0 when ready" philosophy...
- Purin, on 05/10/2008, -0/+14It'll never be completely "ready," unfortunately.
- srg13, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5They have decided that a few applications need to run flawlessly for the 1.0 release. One of them was Photoshop CS2, another was the Microsoft Word Viewer...
But even though it's going to take years before any app can run flawlessly, they have come a very long way in the two years I have been using it - it used to take months or years before an application ran flawlessly, but now we're seeing things like Portal that ran alright on Wine as soon as it was released.
- colincornaby, on 05/10/2008, -0/+22Sadly, they haven't. They're bumping it to 1.0 in time for some anniversary of when they started working on it. I wish they had stuck with the "1.0 when ready" philosophy...
- markc09, on 05/10/2008, -2/+10And i was looking forward to releases 0.9.62 63 64 65 ... 99 100
I have never seen so many point releases in a product. guess 61 is all they wanted- dualscreenman, on 05/10/2008, -2/+6In case you didn't notice, it wasn't going by the decimal system.
- SenorGeltabz, on 05/10/2008, -20/+2why does anyone want windows apps on linux? Well, congrats for all the releases and effort!
- bob12321, on 05/10/2008, -0/+16To play windows video games and other software.
- blagoaw, on 05/10/2008, -0/+18The same reason people run Windows -- to run Windows software. (developers, developers, developers)
- Giga, on 05/10/2008, -0/+14Surprisingly, there are some Windows apps that are either superior to the Linux ones, and even apps that don't have a counterpart on Linux. Some people wish to use these apps and don't want to be forced to use Windows. They want their cake and want to eat it too.
- gavintlgold, on 05/10/2008, -1/+14And they want to eat it with wine.
- piratehead, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4I see what you did there.
- CarzorStelatis, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2There won't be any cake to eat - Portal runs on Wine :P
- secrity, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3I do it to run Outlook at work -- although I use Cross-Over (commercial version of Wine)
- srg13, on 05/10/2008, -1/+5I love Linux. I love Photoshop too.
- Amiga500, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Try loving a shower and brushing your teeth.
- ekravchenko, on 05/10/2008, -1/+6sweet it's in the wine ubuntu hardy (8.04) repositories, I just upgraded
- DestroyFascism, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Still getting address errors?
- Megatog615, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Those errors shouldn't affect anything unless you're running a DOS program.
- srg13, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2I'm running in Hardy, and not getting them anymore!
- thewump, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Not in CO 64bit repo.. 9.59
- DestroyFascism, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Still getting address errors?
- Bmarofsky, on 05/10/2008, -11/+5Well it about time the fixed the "Graphical glitches in Children of the Nile demo"
Who needs Project and Visio to work any way?- Megatog615, on 05/10/2008, -1/+12Well, one bug fixed in one application might mean a bug fixed in another.
- dualscreenman, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9Who is to say that somebody who knew how to fix a graphical glitch knew how to fix a bug blocking those two programs you mentioned? All bugfixes are good bugfixes.
- mithrasinvictus, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4not me
- jasegruver, on 05/10/2008, -35/+2How does this S**T keep ending up on the front page? Someone just develop some decent apps and games for linux instead of running windows crap on Linux.
- Kamujin, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Too bad you said decent. I am build a game for Linux, but it will probably suck.
Still fun as a hobby. - Giga, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9While I agree that not every point release should be on digg, this is a milestone worthy of mention.
- neko, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4No, every point release should be on digg, just because it ***** people off so much that they take time out of their day to comment on the articles that irritate them, instead of just moving on to an article that DOES interest them.
- Kamujin, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Too bad you said decent. I am build a game for Linux, but it will probably suck.

- xenix, on 05/10/2008, -0/+8lol thats's just hilarious. im surprised they wrote a guide like that.
- bejayel, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9Thats a huge ***** article. Why doesnt it just say: Go to the BIOS and change the boot device to CD-ROM. then put the cd in and setup windows XP? Oh that right, i forgot windows was all about BLOAT and useless *****, causing major system instabilities, incompatabilites, and insecurities.
- mithrasinvictus, on 05/10/2008, -0/+9they forgot to mention the dual boot option and that if you install from the liveCD you can...oh wait, nevermind.
- dvdcpu, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4"Windows and Linux can coexist on the same computer. For additional information, refer to your Linux documentation. "
- aMammoth, on 05/10/2008, -2/+8Everybody leave bad reviews on the article and leave feedback how they should put a tutorial on removing Vista and installing ubuntu.
- CryRightardCry, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1LOL
Thank god no one is dumb enough to follow those instructions. - Roy911, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Sir, please go troll back in the Windows section of Digg.
- alasbabylon, on 05/10/2008, -9/+2I'm really excited about this release. I wasn't able to play Civilization II on Vista so hopefully I can just install Ubuntu and then Wine and I'll be able to play Civ II. The only reason I like Civ II more than Civ IV which already is Vista compatible is because there's a secret clip of a James Bond girl nude in Civ IV and I'm really not allowed to watch porn.
- doubledowndan, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Why not Civ 3?
- CarzorStelatis, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Because a lot of fans still think Civ II is the best in the series

Life would be boring if all we had were pasty faced men fapping before computer screens and posting "macho" comments on digg about what others should do.

- ssam, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2have you tried freeciv? it is very close to civ2, but has good networking, and better AI.
- doubledowndan, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Why not Civ 3?
- kaytrio, on 05/10/2008, -0/+9Wine is really an amazing project. It's the main way I play games.
- ronaldmonster, on 05/10/2008, -3/+6Honestly 8.03 fixed every issue I ever had with Ubuntu, all I need is Zune support and I'm gone. I heard Songbird 0.6 will fix that, once I get support for it, bye bye Windows.

- BilliD, on 05/10/2008, -5/+10best release of wine ever was 0.9.58...
for some reason it handled ms office 2007 perfectly after doing that rpcrt4.dll hack from crossover games.
every other wine version after it sucked when it came to running office 2007.either issues with bullets getting displayed wrong to word not working at all. I dont really know why. they should try to get office 2007 working in wine. I cannot live without onenote! its truly the best (gasp!) ms application ever.
and please no bashing on how i can use openoffice over office 2007. trust me openoffice even the latest beta 3...not really a complete replacement for office 2007--for older versions office maybe.-->Unless they bump up the eyecandy and maybe a ribbon substitute? even if its thirdparty. but its already quite slow anyways without the memory tweaks. I just find the ribbon to be the best damn thing since sliced bread! really wicked idea and well implemented in office 2007. and as for onenote 07 sadly no substitute except for tomboy which doesnt really cut it.
so..bottom line. im forced to stick with wine 0.9.58 after trying everything. crossover games isnt an option for running office 2007 cuz im broke.- mdew, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3learn how to use git bisect and find out which patch caused the issue then?
- BilliD, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2interesting.. im new to git bisect.. but ill check it out and see what i can do.
- ISIfunded911, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
Very easy to do. Once you have set up everything, you just have to type "git bisect bad" or "git bisect good" ten times (on a fast processor it takes ten minutes between each phrase you type), and it's done. - epgui, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1What he said.
Office 2007 is sitting here on my desk waiting for WINE...
I really hope it won't be too long! =D

- Poofainter888, on 05/10/2008, -20/+3Cool! Maybe now Linux users can use some quality software!
- darkmaniac, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4u must be talking about games...
- Poofainter888, on 05/10/2008, -7/+2No, I'm talking about quality software like Windows. Sound and video drivers are also included in this category.
- srg13, on 05/10/2008, -2/+2Wine doesn't run Windows drivers. But that doesn't matter - open source drivers are generally as good or better quality than closed Windows drivers, and although some binary drivers are not that great (like ATI's - although an open source driver is in development), some are actually faster - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item ... - in that test, Windows Vista was generally the slowest, and Ubuntu Linux was the fastest in most of the tests.
- Poofainter888, on 05/10/2008, -7/+2No, I'm talking about quality software like Windows. Sound and video drivers are also included in this category.
- srg13, on 05/10/2008, -1/+5Yes, we can run quality applications that run on Windows, in addition to the myriad of quality applications we already have!
And with Wine, we don't have to put up with running a mediocre quality operating system to use the software!- Poofainter888, on 05/12/2008, -0/+0Hahahaha, hahaha, haha ha.
While WINE is certainly an amazing and novel technical achievement, I see humour in people championing Linux because it can run all this great software ... if you can emulate windows....
- Poofainter888, on 05/12/2008, -0/+0Hahahaha, hahaha, haha ha.

- heiroglyph, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4Wine might actually run Duke Nukem Forever.
- piratehead, on 05/10/2008, -15/+9I hear Wine 1.0 will be the best windows emulator ever!

- japherwocky, on 05/10/2008, -4/+5So does it run adobe CS2 yet?
- weizbox, on 05/10/2008, -0/+12adobe photoshop cs2? yes, it has been able to for some time now.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=v ... - GavinZac, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4yes, with a little help from Google team, its perfectly supported AFAIK
- yetAnotherCroc, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Not exactly, Photoshop and GoLive work. But the rest dont.

- springo, on 05/10/2008, -4/+5I thought 1.0 would support every piece of Windows software out there (including CS3, Office 2007, Windows Live Messenger...)
- woody1987, on 05/10/2008, -1/+6you were wrong
- johnboyholmes, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2It would be nice if it could support CS3, Office 2007, Windows Live Messenger, but it isn't quite there yet....
However it does support a lot of older software better than Vista, so from some perspectives wine does a better job of supporting windows programs than Microsoft does :-)
Wine is very cool! - factotum218, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Im starting to wonder if Wine isn't more windows compatible than Vista its self
- monkeysaurus, on 05/10/2008, -5/+2I have a feeling that it's definitely going to be the year of Linux.
- Youssif, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1is Fedora 9 going to include this ?!

- mllawso, on 05/10/2008, -0/+7"Where can I get the windows version?".
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot- zeebo, on 05/10/2008, -0/+7There are some rumors saying that Windows 7 is going to have some massive breaks with backwards compatibility. Wine could be useful in such a situation just like DOSbox is.
