http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW& ...- Kingoftherings, on 03/21/2008, -12/+2Looks like they're going backwards.
- ssam, on 03/21/2008, -0/+9i think it is because they are tagging existing bugs for 1.0. if you read the annoucement they have closed a huge number of bugs.
- Shouden, on 03/21/2008, -4/+8Don't get me wrong, I love Wine, and I use it everyday but some of the "fixed" bugs on that list are *****, take 7952 for example. The bug was never fixed, it just became irrelevant, saying that they "fixed" it is not entirely correct. I don't think it should be on the list, but it is not my decision, and it isn't gonna stop me from shelling out money to their project.
- oobuntu, on 03/22/2008, -1/+1@shouden
i took a look at that bug and agree. its a closed issue, but the resolution should be "obsoleted" , not "fixed". Saying they've fixed this seems like a dodgy PR exercise.
- ssam, on 03/21/2008, -0/+9i think it is because they are tagging existing bugs for 1.0. if you read the annoucement they have closed a huge number of bugs.
- dualscreenman, on 03/21/2008, -0/+24Actually, Wine 1.0 will be released on it's 15th anniversary this June whether or not all 1.0 bugs are fixed.
- Kingoftherings, on 03/21/2008, -12/+2Looks like they're going backwards.
- jkirk7msa, on 03/21/2008, -89/+11Tired of all the Wine articles, buried.

- nmnnotmyname, on 03/22/2008, -1/+13But evidently your one of the few who can't just pass by them...
And besides, It still made it to the front page and it always will, because there is enough interest for it to make it. - canthraxp, on 03/22/2008, -0/+8So you're tired of watching wine articles, but you still have the momentum to post a stupid comment showing how much of a tool you are?
Sir, you are ***** up.

- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -10/+1Feel free to show a little self control and common sense by not submitting small version changes that happens so frequently it isn't really news. Let me know when you need help knowing when using the toilet requires sitting down, verses standing up.
- Gudeldar, on 03/22/2008, -1/+8Why don't you show a little self control by shutting the ***** up about Wine updates showing up on the front page. Just bury it and move on, why bother clicking the story, reading the comments and finding the place where you can bitch about seeing the story when you can just ignore it.
- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -10/+1Feel free to show a little self control and common sense by not submitting small version changes that happens so frequently it isn't really news. Let me know when you need help knowing when using the toilet requires sitting down, verses standing up.

- MrSarcasm, on 03/21/2008, -6/+45BUT REMEMBER: Wine is not an emulator.
Oh, come on.. somebody had to write this. Same way as somebody has to submit every wine release to digg :]- sinatosk, on 03/21/2008, -0/+14it's tradition... it's law... to post "Wine x.x.xx released" here on Digg now
that's an assumption by the way :p
and to jkirk7msa... SHUT UP, don't like it, IGNORE IT
- sinatosk, on 03/21/2008, -0/+14it's tradition... it's law... to post "Wine x.x.xx released" here on Digg now
- digitallysick, on 03/21/2008, -10/+15But will it run crysis?
- dualscreenman, on 03/21/2008, -2/+47It runs at less than 1frame per second and the bloom lighting will blind you, but yes.
http://appdb.winehq.org/screenshots.php?iAppId=588 ... - garreh, on 03/21/2008, -18/+3Will it run vista?
- Stonekeeper, on 03/21/2008, -6/+14That's like saying "can i poke my own eyes out?"
- Smegzor, on 03/22/2008, -0/+4Yes yes, yes you can.
- nmnnotmyname, on 03/22/2008, -1/+3If your stupid enough to want it in the first place go ahead and run a VM under wine and run Vista on that.
- sqrt7744, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1first person to get that to work gets 5k from me.
- 1timeuser, on 03/22/2008, -1/+2Does that make any sense?
- Giga, on 03/24/2008, -0/+0XP won't run Vista either.
- Stonekeeper, on 03/21/2008, -6/+14That's like saying "can i poke my own eyes out?"
- BruceDude, on 03/21/2008, -0/+15Yup. But wait a few months for it to be playable.
- Giga, on 03/24/2008, -0/+0Try years. It has to be playable on Windows first.
(And I'm just talking about the gameplay, what a ***** boring game it is) - BruceDude, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1If you can get 30fps with quad 8800GTXs then its playable.
- Giga, on 03/24/2008, -0/+0Try years. It has to be playable on Windows first.
- nmnnotmyname, on 03/22/2008, -1/+4Not the right place to ask. You were probably trying to ***** people off. Nevertheless, it will run Crisis, but as stated above, with some graphical issues. Is it running? Yes. Is it working well? Not quite.
- erkokite, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3It runs very poorly now. Maybe someone will write an opengl renderer for it.
- nmnnotmyname, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1That would make me happy in the pants. I don't play Crysis, but people complain about it often whence needing a reason not to switch to Linux. This wouldn't be to rub it in their face, but give them more reasons to try.
- YokoZar, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2Wine IS an opengl renderer...
- djbon2112, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1I think he meant a specific one for Crysis. That's the problem with games, some of them are so specific and use obscure calls, and a general-purpose wine breaks them. If there's enough initiative in this, it can be done.
- Giga, on 03/24/2008, -0/+0Instead of making a Crysis specific one, add support for the obscure calls into Wine. Heck, make a proper fully compliant one for Wine and there won't be a problem.

- garreh, on 03/21/2008, -0/+10May I be the first to say thanks for sharing that wonderful story!
- xptweakerntn, on 03/22/2008, -1/+4Thanks garreh. Perhaps I'll have the joy of sharing a story such as that every other Friday, until June 15th, 2008! Then who knows what I'll do, perhaps write a book.

- dualscreenman, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1I got suspicious when he said that it was a video showing off some of Wine's features. Because, you know, Wine's main feature is windows application compatibility, which kinda makes for a boring video. I would have clicked it if he had said that it was a video of some popular app running in Wine. (Well, ok, I did click it despite the suspicions I had.)

- bitterbug, on 03/21/2008, -0/+5Prank is such a versatile word. For some, it's just catching someone with a RickRoll.
For others it's putting ground up lightbulbs in sandwiches, or throwing running hair dryers into full bathtubs.
Harmless pranks vs. Fatal pranks. Digg at Eleven.

Just kidding, but we don't need a new story everytime they fix 3 minor bugs.- dualscreenman, on 03/21/2008, -0/+10If you had actually RTFA you would have seen that 72 bugs have been fixed.
- trotskyist, on 03/21/2008, -33/+16Every two weeks this hits the frontpage.
Is it really necessary?- deadbaby, on 03/21/2008, -5/+31Yes.
- Kamujin, on 03/21/2008, -1/+22Its more interesting the half the stuff that makes it to the front page IMO.

Also, a new Webkit nightly build is out. - erkokite, on 03/22/2008, -1/+5Hey, enough people are digging it, so it must be front page worthy.

- al11588, on 03/21/2008, -28/+5He is speaking the truth. Windows FTW
- Reziarfg, on 03/21/2008, -2/+22I digg you down not because your operating system choice is worse than mine, but because you are a ***** douche.
Good day sir!- GMorgan, on 03/21/2008, -3/+4But his operating system is worse than yours!
Shows it perfectly that Wine is so much ahead of Colinux even though Linux is totally FOSS with all the internals available. Yes it's easier to implement a hidden, unnecessarily complex and evil infrastructure on Linux than it is to implement the relatively simple, straight forward and open Linux on Windows.
- GMorgan, on 03/21/2008, -3/+4But his operating system is worse than yours!
- neko, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2"Use Windows because everyone is better than you and you know it".

You seem to care enough so that you want everybody to use windows. And i presume you think it's better and that's cause you use it? Man stop throwing stones in a glasshouse.
- TheGorn, on 03/21/2008, -18/+3Digg is not Freshmeat.net. Lets leave it that way.
- al11588, on 03/21/2008, -31/+2Do I have to say the facts again like I said before to Ubuntu people. Vista > OSX > Ubuntu

- shad0w0fsin, on 03/22/2008, -2/+7Does someone have to correct your mistakes again? It should be: Vista < OSX < Ubuntu
- mmmiiikkkeee, on 03/22/2008, -2/+2at least he mentioned linux.... :)
- init100, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1Don't mistake your personal opinion for "facts".
- sruphil, on 03/21/2008, -20/+5Does every wine release make front page? I mean, if it matters that much and you use wine alot, wouldn't you know when a new version is released? Auto-updaters FTW.
- millerftw, on 03/22/2008, -1/+1If it made it to the front page it means the digg user base wanted it too, thats all that matters.
- srg13, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2"Does every wine release make front page?"
Yes.
- macmangb, on 03/21/2008, -8/+19More reason why Windows and Microsoft are less relevant than ever.
- al11588, on 03/21/2008, -17/+2Look at Microsoft marketshare. we rule.
- macmangb, on 03/21/2008, -9/+3Microsoft has a continually shrinking Marketshare when it comes to consumer computing. As OS X becomes more mainstream, business will look at it as a viable business platform.
- pathogenal, on 03/22/2008, -2/+8No that's never going to happen cause mac hardware doesn't meet the bottom line. It's overpriced.
- macmangb, on 03/22/2008, -2/+1Macs need less ongoing support than a Windows environment, it's about short term cost versus long term costs.
- Jereso, on 03/22/2008, -2/+2Microsoft doesn't make you pay for your music player to update...
I've never had to use money for support on Windows. Please stop being the smug Apple fan boy and get out of your box of denial. - init100, on 03/23/2008, -1/+1@pathogenal
"No that's never going to happen cause mac hardware doesn't meet the bottom line. It's overpriced."
Mac hardware may be "overpriced" compared to consumer-level hardware, but really not compared to enterprise-class hardware usually used in businesses. Consumer-grade hardware is cheaper because of lower quality, enterprise hardware is built for stability and is thus more expensive. The difference in price between a MacBook Pro and a Dell Latitude or a Lenovo Thinkpad T-series laptop isn't that great.- djbon2112, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Their consumer-level hardware is overpriced compared to standard, and their server/enterprise-level is the same way. Apple is overpriced in general. Fact.
- 4DFX, on 03/22/2008, -2/+13'You' are gonna lose the marketshare. And Wine is one of the reasons for that.
- pathogenal, on 03/22/2008, -4/+3Yeah maybe when 90% of applications get past Bronze support.
- saturn5, on 03/22/2008, -6/+6Yeah, great reason. Native Linux apps suck so you need an emulator to run superior Windows software. Desktop Linux market share is still less than 1%. Linux probably will never be more than a small niche OS used primarily by geeks.
- macmangb, on 03/22/2008, -7/+1Don't think linux, think mac. It gives more people incentive to switch to an inherently better platform while allowing them to use there old legacy applications, then later on they'll switch these legacy apps with mac (lesser extent linux) native apps. It's the same logic behind the move away from PPC architecture.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 03/22/2008, -1/+6Geez, sour grapes much? Linux market share hasn't been less than 1% since 2001 (not that it matters). The vast majority of WINE use is for games and Photoshop. No one is running Outlook or IE with WINE because native Linux apps tend to not suck at all (not that you care).
Personally, I prefer native Linux apps to the native Windows apps that perform the same tasks. That's why I use Linux. It's also why your opinion and lies are so futile and silly. I like it so I use it. I'm not here telling you what you have to use, yet you insist on arguing how "STUPID" my preference is (or, more accurately, "must be") simply because it differs from your own.
Why do you care so much about Microsoft and it's monopoly? What stock do you have in it? Really. - srg13, on 03/22/2008, -0/+5No - actually. I have found only a few apps that I can't find a good Linux replacement for, and they're all made by Adobe...
Once Linux has a big enough market share, Wine will be obsolete, but it is an important intermediate solution for building up a larger user base. - saturn5, on 03/22/2008, -6/+1@SpeedSteamBoat
No, I don't care about Microsoft and it's monopoly. I prefer Windows, but I like OS X, and I would like to see Apple get more market share. It will force MS to give us a better product.
But IMO Linux is a waste of time. With 400+ variations, no standardization, the never ending infighting - KDE vs Gnome, deb vs RPM, Ubuntu vs Kubuntu, and so on. Developers that don't give a ***** about users (how long have people been begging for the GIMP's UI to be improved). Linux is ok on servers but I don't think it will ever amount to anything on the desktop. - srg13, on 03/23/2008, -0/+5@saturn5: You paint an almost perfect picture of Linux fifteen years ago.
- djbon2112, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1@saturn5: You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you. All that "infighting" is completely transparent to any intelligent Linux application developer. There IS standardization on the kernel level; a binary application for Ubuntu is not going to magically break being run on Gentoo or Kubuntu. And about the developers giving a *****: just because a few people whine constantly about it, doesn't mean the devs are going to waste their time (yes, waste it) completely redesigning the interface. GIMP is fine, if you're not used to Photoshop.
- init100, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2We? Do you work for Microsoft?
- macmangb, on 03/21/2008, -9/+3Microsoft has a continually shrinking Marketshare when it comes to consumer computing. As OS X becomes more mainstream, business will look at it as a viable business platform.

- dagamer34, on 03/21/2008, -2/+6How about DarWINE for OSX? Are developers actively working on that?
- ElChapusero, on 03/22/2008, -1/+9these are two recently updated, independent builds of DarWINE. They're both WINE 0.9.57, but I'm sure they will be updated in a few days:
http://thisismyinter.net/?p=29
http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/ - bj1989, on 03/22/2008, -2/+1I thought darwine wasn't needed anymore since the switch to intel hardware.
- djbon2112, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1That comment reeks of ignorance. Yes, it is still needed, because at its core, OSX is BSD. However, there are Parallels and Crossover, and since Mac users tend to be overflowing with money, they're happy to pay for them.

- slashbot, on 03/22/2008, -14/+4I don't understand how people keep saying Windows sucks while touting Wine.
Ironic- blankhorizons, on 03/22/2008, -1/+12Because as long as companies insist on using windows based software, business folks that do any work at home on their computers are required to use programs that are likely windows only. This is a much better alternative to buying and running Windows (assuming your program is supported by wine)
- sloppychris, on 03/22/2008, -2/+7Because with wine, linux users can do everything windows users can do. Short of dealing with viruses, instability, paying entirely too much, etc.
- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -8/+2Sorry, but you are wrong. I use windows but do not deal with Viruses, Instability, or paying too much. Even my file server, running a Web and FTP server never crash, ever. With the NT kernel, there are really only 2 ways for the OS to crash. Bad hardware or bad drivers. You need to get educated, or punched in the face.... I can go either way.
- Ademan, on 03/22/2008, -0/+7Your threat of violence is the cornerstone of your argument, nice.
- kretik, on 03/22/2008, -4/+1Haven't seen a virus in any Windows machine I've owned since they came on floppy disk boot sectors and had cute names like "pong". PEBKAC? As usual.
- djbon2112, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Viruses, yes. The rest, not so much.
- sloppychris, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2Ooh an internet threat!
- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -8/+2Sorry, but you are wrong. I use windows but do not deal with Viruses, Instability, or paying too much. - neko, on 03/22/2008, -2/+10Not ironic. Wine lets me run win32/exe applications (made by people other than Microsoft) without resorting to using the windows xp window manager, file system, file browser, update hell, or any of the other things that irritate me about that OS.
- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -7/+2There are shell replacements available that don't require you use Explorer. However, most people aren't as anal as you so they aren't very popular.
- djbon2112, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Call me when GNOME is ported to Windows, and Windows is released for free (as in speech), and it stops being a buggy mess. Oh wait, that'll never happen? Damn, Linux + WINE (until more native Linux software is released, at least) it is.
- neko, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1I suppose non-anal people don't mind fighting the OS to patch dlls just to get a simple theme change, then.

- Loonacy, on 03/22/2008, -1/+9Software that runs on Windows != Windows
- srg13, on 03/22/2008, -0/+6Precisely - the way I see it is: Windows sucks, Photoshop doesn't.
- djbon2112, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Glad to see I'm not alone in thinking that! Sometimes I think no one else does (from BOTH sides of the fence!)
- sloppychris, on 03/22/2008, -0/+20Fixed:
Adobe Photoshop CS2 main window very slow redraw
Pop up dialogs open behind the current window in Adobe Photoshop
YAY! - pyrates, on 03/22/2008, -14/+3Now the default version is windows xp? That means they are 6 years behind the times. Still got a long way to go it seems
- sloppychris, on 03/22/2008, -2/+14I have to be honest. It doesn't sound like you know what you're talking about.
- SniperSlap, on 03/22/2008, -0/+8The default version has nothing to do with what WINE is actually capable of.
This is one of those pieces of information that ***** retards go ***** ripping apart. But they later realize they were merely pouncing some irrelevant bit of technical information.
WINE allows you to select what it reports as the OS to any apps running under it. Nothing more, nothing less. Windows XP and even Vista are options in that list as of...Whenever they came out.
Don't misinterpret ***** just because you feed on marketing and disinformation. Not everyone is as stupid as you.
- deadbaby, on 03/22/2008, -1/+14I think it's important people submit these updates because if you don't frequently use WINE you may not be aware how good the compatibility is getting. Some of these minor releases seem insignificant but they might fix dozens, or even hundreds, of apps that perviously had compatibility problems. I'd say that's worth a digg.
- MrViklund, on 03/22/2008, -10/+1Whine?
- neko, on 03/22/2008, -1/+17I love digging wine releases, just to rub it in to all the people who take the time and (considerable mental) effort to post about things they don't think should be reaching the front page.
Do you also spend your days shouting at the sky to prevent it from raining?- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -10/+1One man's "considerable mental effort" is another man's instant reflex. Don't model the rest of us based on your own (obvious) shortcomings.
- Ademan, on 03/22/2008, -1/+6Hrm, by your third comment on this article I'm pretty confident I can block you, all you've done is threatened and insulted anyone who disagrees with you. I'm only bothering to post this because other people will enjoy the bliss that is blocking your sorry ass and not having to read your abbrasive and substanceless attacks.
- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -3/+1Please block me. I will NO LONGER sit idle while fanboys and idiots lie and get their jollies off it. You sir are an uneducated prick. If some homosexual Linux users rips on any other system, you get a big boner. When someone shatters that illusion with any element of truth, you get your monthly. Idiots like you server NO purpose in live. As for the violence, it's needed, because people like you are incapable of learning.
- SniperSlap, on 03/22/2008, -1/+3Fail.

Err... not that I clicked on it or anything...
>_> - skootz85, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2Yay. Now I can use 3DMark 2001 SE to benchmark my Linux machine.
- DestroyFascism, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2Can't wait for full duplex multi channel ASIO support and CPU priority queuing. Once that happens My DAW will have 4 places where I can place everything neatly and no more latency from crap like AV and so on....
- SniperSlap, on 03/22/2008, -0/+3This is great! I love hearing about WINE releases. They have made such amazing progress in the past two years. The fact that google has helped them out is a huge sign right there.
It's a wonder Microsoft hasn't tried to shut this project down - what with their propriety being their only savior.
Anyway, I'd rather use an operating system that doesn't charge me extra (or anything at all!) to use more than 3GB of memory. That's an awfully arbitrary and creative way to dumb your audience down!
I am not some pawn for profit and if I bought a computer I expect to be able to use all of it - and not have my OS dictate to me all kinds of *****.
When it comes to WINE, it is a compatibility layer - nothing more, nothing less. When the time comes it will only be used to precariously prop up the last few staples of a kludgy Windows diet. More and more, software is released for Linux. That speaks louder than years of stagnant, monopolistic market share.
Not to mention, what's this ***** about it not working? Lots of stuff works. Sounds like some windows serf-whores are trolling the Linux comments again to spread their usual disinformation.- buggu, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1WINE is made using fully open-source code. Try as they might (and MS must have looked into the project a long time ago), they cannot do anything about it. The fact that even a giant like Google gives the project its backing only adds to its legitimacy. Though I wonder how far they will progress, and how long it will take, to make dual-booting to XP obsolete. Microsoft is constantly changing their programs, like MSN protocols and Office. It seems like Wine devs have a lot of work ahead of them if they are aiming for maximum compatibility.
- srg13, on 03/23/2008, -0/+2Wine are _very_ careful about not letting any of MS's code in. I think you can get parts of the Windows source code on some MSDN subscription, and if you've looked at any of their code, I don't think you're allowed to contribute to WINE at all.
- Amiga500, on 03/22/2008, -2/+1Dan Roberts is rolling in his grave.
- CCmachined, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1wine rocks. been having a blast playing some of my fave old classic games with it, mainly Homeworld and HW: Cataclysm.
- DAC1138, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1As soon as they hit 1.0, microsoft will change the windows API for future versions of Windows so newer apps written for Windows 7 won't work on Wine.
