- JasonMaloney101, on 01/12/2008, -3/+43Before anyone asks... Obviously, enough diggers deem an incremental release of Wine to be important news, SO STOP ASKING EVERY TIME WINE HITS THE FRONT PAGE!!

- dualscreenman, on 01/12/2008, -1/+20By fixing all or most of the bugs targeted for 1.0.0
http://bugs.winehq.com/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW& ... - Nanobe, on 01/12/2008, -0/+19CS2 works, and that's good enough for me.
- elmargol, on 01/12/2008, -2/+20Great work guys!
- dualscreenman, on 01/12/2008, -1/+17You've been able to set it to use your desktop's theme's colors since forever.
- wompninja, on 01/12/2008, -1/+16the true test is will it run CS3?
- kru1e, on 01/12/2008, -2/+16If you can't beat them, join them! dugg
- Protoss, on 01/12/2008, -0/+14"Beginnings of support for emulated disk devices."
Anyone elaborate on this? Is this like a Daemon Tools type emulation we're talking about? - Protoss, on 01/12/2008, -0/+12Yes but it doesn't really work with any programs running through Wine.
- hungryduck, on 01/12/2008, -2/+12Another great release.
- wbeavis, on 01/12/2008, -2/+12They should release 0.10.1 next. A collective geek moan would be heard around the world.
- ArcOrion, on 01/12/2008, -0/+10So you don't get the joke and I'm the stupid one?
- linkerjpatrick, on 01/12/2008, -1/+10What's it going to take for them to get to 1.0+ ?
- Darkhacker, on 01/12/2008, -0/+8The widgets still don't match though. But I hear they are working on that.
- kingcam, on 01/12/2008, -0/+7But it is a recursive acronym.
- Cupantae, on 01/12/2008, -2/+8Ah! We're all friends here it seems. This is great! I hope some opposing fanboy doesn't wander in
- Darkhacker, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6Wine is a compatibility layer used to run win32 binaries on Unix-like systems.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compatibility_layer - AnthonyA7, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6...And better than Vista, too. It locks up less, and it starts faster. I didn't do sophisticated benchmarking, but here's what I found-
Launch Photoshop CS2 + Open image (1920x1200): average of 3 runs:
Vista Ultimate: 35.2 seconds
Fedora 8 (2.6.23) + Wine 0.9.50: 22.6 seconds
My specs: 1.86 GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM, nVidia Geforce Go 6800, 5400rpm HDD - Cupantae, on 01/12/2008, -1/+7You new here?
- zwaldowski, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4No, it's not. If the Wine DLLs are feature-complete, they should be able to run natively on Windows with little modification.
- Gavagai80, on 01/12/2008, -0/+320+ seconds with a computer that's many times better than mine? Suddenly I'm very glad I've never used Photoshop, GIMP takes about 3 seconds.
- ssam, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3only 93 bugs to go till 1.0
http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=ad ... - neko, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3I wasn't aware Counter Strike 3 was out yet.
- spankaccount, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3For what it's worth, Wine isn't and implementation of Windows but rather an Open Source implementation of Win32 APIs which allow you to run many Windows programs on your Unix desktop. Wine is not an emulator.
- thushan, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Cheers!
- Gavagai80, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Wasn't it 70-something a couple weeks ago? The number is more likely to keep increasing than to decrease.
- Urusai, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2I actually looked into this because we had an app that didn't like to run on Server 2003. I was contemplating running a VM with Linux and Wine. I ended up running the problem component on a different computer with XP instead.
- ssam, on 01/13/2008, -0/+2Bug counts can go up and down. Your house is at risk if you do not keep up repayments.
- XVampireX, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2I tried GIMP seriously just a while ago, I loved it.... the user interface really doesn't matter and doesn't get in the way like I thought.
- AnthonyA7, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2I guess that makes sense, but you're off on one point- Windows is no superman, buddy.
- Rettocs, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I'm excited to test out the bug fixes, cause some were driving me crazy!
- dualscreenman, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1Some of these have patches that have been submitted but not accepted yet. They are being marked as 1.0 so that they won't slip through the cracks.
BTW, last week there were only 76 bugs open, down from 80-something a week or 3 before. - Vektuz, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1needs actual copyprotection emulation
- aahpandasrun, on 01/12/2008, -2/+3Wine is usable, but you end up getting something more like Bizarro Superman than Superman himself.
- wompninja, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2Exactly!
- aldenhg, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I get better performance from wine on 2.6.22 for the Source engine than I do under Vista with a nvidia 8400M GS. It's not always *accurate* (there is the occasional color/texture messu) but for the most part it's more than playable.
- Gavagai80, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Performance isn't the issue. A few times a year I come across a random windows program and decide to give WINE another try. It'll usually install, but 80% of the time there are critical functions which crash the program when I try to use them. Being able to support 95% of a program isn't good enough to use a program.
- Corrosionx, on 01/12/2008, -1/+2Really? Cool I'll have to check that out
- Corrosionx, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1What about uif or other dumbass file formats?
- init100, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Wine already seems to be ported to Windows:
