- YokoZar, on 10/22/2007, -0/+59I'm not certain if it works fully, but I know there are also some iTunes-related fixes in this version. 0.9.45 fixed most of the crypto bugs that prevented the latest iTunes from installing, but introduced a few new regressions.
I will be spending this weekend packing up 0.9.46 for Ubuntu, and releasing it on the WineHQ site as well as pushing it into Gutsy. - tempusrob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+43People -- especially Linux users -- should be buying non-DRM tracks from Amazon instead of DRM'd tracks from iTunes. People speak so often about "voting" with their dollars ... now's your chance!
- sirhomer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39Wine release article, dugg
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+36Its not emulation at all. I think you have quite a bit to learn about Computer Science before you can critique the work of a developer.
- evilxhwnd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31Photoshop CS2 Installs and runs! FINALLY!!!
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29Wine is an infant project still. They may come up with major changes very rapidly, but they really are major advancements, and are newsworthy.
- MrDarkSim, on 10/22/2007, -0/+25Thank you for taking the time to pack it up.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23So Linux can't run Windows binaries natively because it is poorly coded? How do you figure that? Can Windows run Linux binaries? That's a pretty weak argument...
- dacomputerfreak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Quote: "I don't have to wait for updates for my stuff to work on Windows."
Tell that to the Vista users, fanboy. - cyberwarriorx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19flame bait, plain and simple
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Wine, by far, is not ***** software.
- ryawn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19this fixes the bug where WoW crashes on exit!
- Megatog615, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Enemy Territory: Quake Wars works almost without any configuration. Anyone looking to try the demo should check out http://appdb.winehq.org .
- Purin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I don't get why you're so negative toward a project that just helps run common software on a superior operating system.
- frouse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17If you're using Ubuntu, you need to add the Ubuntu repository that WineHQ provides. Details here: http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb Otherwise click the Download Now link on the left of the site and choose details for your distro.
- canthraxp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17"Oh I'm so ***** cool I have a n4m3 written with the word L337 on it, and I like to post insulting comments to get some attention since my parents don't love me."
*****. - nihilism65, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Cmon cs3 support!
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -7/+23..every 2 weeks.
- stupidbrowner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16"...patent violations."
please explain - nikolas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Um... it can't do it without WINE because the binaries were not made for this OS... it's running a program not made for it...
- KahNeth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I find it amazing. In the past couple months, more apps i want to run have begun to work under, it seems as if they are accelerating in the amount of work they do. I salute the wine team.
- filefly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Wow, that's ***** annoying, man...
- SergeantPepper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Wine release announcements, how I missed thee.
- TeacherOfHeroes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Considering that there are 5 iphone stories on the front page right now, I don't think that 1 wine article every 2nd Friday is going to kill anyone.
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Wow, you are very ignorant. What exactly do you mean with the OS of poor people? Do you happen to know that some of most profitable companies use Linux to run their servers? Poorly coded? Do you happen to know that Windows is in fact poorly coded while Linux (unix in general) is the most stable OS around?
- zwaldowski, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I doubt it; the USB libraries are not complete. Still, you can buy songs and use the QTFairUse to transfer them and get GTKPod, Amarok, or Rhythmbox to work.
- mmmiiikkkeee, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14yes exactly!!!!! you are right!
- realyst, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Anyone know how far they're into DX9? Any word yet on DX10 efforts?
(I know it'd take a damn long time, it's amazing how well they've played catch-up as it is considering who/what they're up against) - Megatog615, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11No. The Linux demo will be out when the Linux client comes out, which is expected to be within a few weeks after it's retail.
- srg13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11He's talking about WINE support, idiot.
And since WINE can run in Windows, when it supports DX10, Windows XP users can benefit as well. - sloppychris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Right on, thank you!
- 3210, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Good to see yet another set of improvements made to WINE, they have really made many advances over the versions.
- MrPig, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12You're an idiot. You completly missed the point.
They're trying to do what it took Microsoft decades to do. - mmmiiikkkeee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10"pushing ***** emulation".... i think you are very confused.... there is a windows API that has code to draw of all things windows... wine is rewriting this for linux..... its like if i wrote a probram for linux and you wanted to do that same thing on some other platform you could rewrite the program(well kind of like that...)......................."***** wanna be OS" wine runs on windows you know; does that make windows a ***** wanabe OS???(i think you need to re thing this sentence...)??? "*****"... what make me an assole for useing differnt tools then you use. I have my reason for useing my tools so what who cares?! .................."I don't have to wait for updates..." all system have updates i don“t get you point... never used windows update???(windows gives security updates very slowly!!!!! and some windows third party apps dont give you security updates...)
- kerrle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9No, actually, it's quite useful - particularly for testing, or for cross-platform development. It's just not necessarily something end users will do.
- twelvedogs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9doesn't that have a native client anyway?
- Garfunkel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Their hard work will not go unnoticed by me.
- NOFXY, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9so how good is photoshop cs2 and itunes support? and if itunes works. can it sync with the ipod?
- frouse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Distros will usually not update to new versions until the next major release of the distro, they only provide bug and security updates until then.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Classic
Go wine! - mmmiiikkkeee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8they do want to... read there page... they said they will once a list of things are fixed
- SirNuke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I wouldn't expect serious headway into DX10 until OpenGL 2.3/3.0 are released. Lots of bug fixes in DX9, as usual, but it's hard to say the exact progress.
- anshuman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7All the version numbers are only for marketing people. users like us need the real deal :) which we are getting.
- VinceNoir, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Gets a digg from me. I"ll have to test this out on my workstation at work. Hehehe... without Wine, I'd be without access to the WIndows apps on Linus to admin the Windows environment. ;P
- SmokeTetsu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I wouldn't say never but it'll probably take a long time. But yeah, officially DX10 is going to remain Vista only just like DX9 is officially Windows only.
- thefinger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7In terms of getting Windows apps going in Linux, Wine is a miracle. But miracles take work and I thank the Wine folks for the trouble they've taken. From time to time I try out a new release of Ubuntu, and Wine is one of the things that's really amazing about the Linux environment. Wine is one of the reasons I keep going back for another go at tooling around in Linux. It was great that I didn't have to use Thunderbird for email (I don't really like any of the emailers that are native to Linux... it's a speed thing mostly). However, it was neat to discover that I could run Eudora under Wine. It worked pretty much without a hitch. It was the same with Winamp, although I couldn't get Winamp to stop showing me its ugly default skin when playing tunes in Linux. It wasn't as slick as within XP, but it worked. And probably by now, it works twice as well as the last time I tried it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It's to be a pompous jerk to all the people that hate getting every little wine update on the front page
that said dugg - jsantos17, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Please don't feed the troll
- Ademan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7You're a moron, and you're also blocked. Next time try following this simple plan.
