"Why does every wine release need to make the front page?"
//Dugg because WINE's awesome. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+47Dugg to annoy people.
- nanostream, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34Folks, it's that time again. dugg.
- melek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25but how well will my viruses work??
- NoOneButMe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25I've updated Darwine (Wine for OS X) with the Wine 0.9.43 sources if anyone wants - http://thisismyinter.net/Files/Darwine%200.9.43.dmg.zip - and http://thisismyinter.net/?p=11 if you wanted to know how to compile on your own.
Sorry for the blogspam, but figured it's worth posting, if not, i wont bother with Wine 0.9.44 or any other future releases ^^ - ViciousDotOrg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17I've brought the cheese!
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Don't use this .deb, use the official .debs / repository from the wine project @ http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb
*Check install makes very non standard .deb files which are not suitable for distribution* - JasonCox, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14Well it's officially the weekend, we have the weekly WINE release article and the weekly 'Microsoft is doomed' article on the frontpage.
- DPyro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"That is very true, but I find myself using it less and less, and using OSS more and more."
Fixed it for you. - sark666, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8beeman, usually there is no need to build your own pkg.
add to your /etc/atp/sources.list
deb http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt feisty main
change feisty with dapper/edgy/etch to your distro.
I just checked and right now it's got 9.42 but they are usually updated pretty quick. - kre3d, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It offers no real advantages for Linux, but allows Direct3D to run more easily when running Wine on Windows, since WGL is already there. This is useful for using Wine to run DirectX10 games in Windows XP (if Wine ever gets that far).
- stmiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6http://www.winehq.org/site/download
Official wine packages for all the main distros. Add their repo to your appropriate software channel and get updated automagically. - seattle98104, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6don't apologize. thanks for the builds.
- jacekpoplawski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6What's WGL and how it's better than glx?
- celkin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Dugg for profile picture!
- goofballjm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Wine has another incremental release = front page of digg.com in a matter of moments.
- lordkenthegreat, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Yes they are, you M$ lover.
- Dotmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah keep them coming buddy...
- J-0-E, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5geez, what a bunch of "winers"
i actually like this updates & would forget to check if not reminded by digg - DPyro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4-replied wrong, bury-
- beeman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The deb on my webspace is removed because it's in the official repository now. :)
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I hope that it does, it could really bring a lot of attention and interest to the wine project.
- beeman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It was primarily used for testing 0.9.43 straight away, as it is not available right now. When the official deb drops in i will remove it from my webspace. :)
- speedwank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Will wine *ever* reach 1.0?
- lengau, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4As I have said in response to other comments of yours, It's in the Linux/Unix section. If you don't care about Linux/Unix, please feel free to uncheck this section on your profile page.
- init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wonder about that part too. I know WGL is the Windows implementation of OpenGL, but I don't know how Wine can run on top of it.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Digg front page in 2012: "Wine 0.945814735 released!!!!!!!!!!! M$ is doomed!"
- canthraxp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2sudo digg this.
- AlexMax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Does this version play nicely with ALSA and get rid of ridiculous Steam errors when trying to load games?
- MeneerR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It would be so cool to run DX10 games on top of Windows '95 ;-)
You need to buy Vista. Ehm ... NO, you need to install WINE. - Spr0k3t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You know, you are half right. The developers of WINE have even stated it will never be released as Version 1.0 due to the impossible to hit moving target of Windows.
- crashie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Here's a list of things that prevents it from reaching 1.0
http://bugs.winehq.com/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&product=Wine&target_milestone=1.0.0&order=bugs.bug_severity - thushan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Cheers!
Some useful GDI+ fixes in this release.
Dugg! - beeman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I know, but there reason I built this version is because there was a bug with IE in 0.9.42, the address bar was not functional.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Wake me up when version 1 comes out.
- hungryduck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What?
- shootsfired, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1does it play skifree?
- eclectro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is a tremendous project that has come a long way. Dugg on principal alone.
- randal2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1waiting for a usable version for "Guild wars"... then a digg.. for now just a comment.
- cquilliam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2did anyone else get the sound of counting crows in their head when they read that comment?
"its been a .... long dev cycle and there's reason to believe
maybe this version will be better than the last" - amfantasy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4Does this version play maple story?
- zwaldowski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0No. Although, I was listening to it earlier.
- informatyk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Excellently :D
- twelvedogs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It runs all of blizzards games, runs a lot of hl2 engine games...
- Crispuk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Hah, Someone had to say it.
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Meh, hopefully this version will be better than the last.
- GaryS278, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I still have to wait for portage to grab it, so by tomorrow I'll have it
- beeman, on 10/10/2007, -10/+8I built this version for Ubuntu Feisty, it may be useful for someone... :)
http://whoops-xpi.googlecode.com/files/wine_0.9.43-1_i386.deb
