- DestroyFascism, on 11/24/2007, -3/+7Not so sure on the GFX suite Adobe photoshop blows the gimp out of the water....But!!! You really have to be a pro to notice what is missing. The only thing I dislike about the Gimp is the interface...never really got used to it...
Good list though.- baalzebub, on 11/24/2007, -2/+4one of my wife's friends cleans offices for a living, one day she gives my wife a copy of photoshop, so i install wine and then install photoshop, i was underwhelmed by photoshop and still prefer the Gimp...
- carpespasm, on 11/24/2007, -1/+5to each their own. I still think Gimp's UI is way less intuitive.
- Cymrubeats, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2I agree. I think the gimp has everything going for it, except for the UI. The minute that is sorted out, i genuinely think the userbase will grow exponentially. Especially taking into account it does ''nearly' as much as PS, and is becoming more and more feature rich.
- mathmanjeffy, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2Layer styles and/or ability to have relative layer linking would be a huge improvement for Gimp that PS already does.
- arbulus, on 11/24/2007, -1/+2Plus it needs a working CMYK environment.

- remccain, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1I would love to find a replacement for ConvertXtoDVD and Alcohol 120. I actually bought both of them (and others) and really want a 100% replacement.
- Malachai, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1A good alternative for ConvertXtoDVD, if I understand what it does (judging by the name), would be QDVDAuthor or ManDVD. For Alcohol 120, try AcetoneISO (although Linux can mount ISO files without any third-party software).

- awkorama, on 11/24/2007, -1/+0i was pretty happy to find LMMS.. really nice product, finally something really ready for music production on linux
- geoken, on 11/24/2007, -0/+8F4L = Flash alternative? If they actually slipped that in it makes me wonder how much more of the list is compiled by spending 20 seconds on Google and not actually testing either of the apps (Windows original or Linux 'equivalent') at all. F4L hasn't been updated since early 2005, and the alpha versions that do exist (apart from being horribly buggy) don't even support animation or actionscript.
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1I also have to question the inclusion of Nvu as a Dreamweaver alternative. I tried it a couple years ago and wasn't very impressed, but I just checked out their website.
Not only has there not been a new release since mid-2005, but there's something very wrong when the official website links directly to a "better", yet unofficial, version of the software that contains bug fixes that the developers of the original software apparently have no intention of ever including.
Nvu = dead
It shouldn't be on that list. - Cl1mh4224rd, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1I also wanted to add that I see this problem on a lot of these Linux-alternatives-to-Windows-software lists: a fair number of Linux applications listed are either sub-par with ludicrously long release schedules, or are already abandonware.

- Roger, on 11/24/2007, -5/+20Buried for "M$".
- MrSarcasm, on 11/24/2007, -3/+13"M$"? Is it 1997 again and you're 11?
No, wait... U said with a dollar sign, you imply that Microsoft is a monopoly with lots of money, ohh!!! NOW U FANNI TOO!! OOooooohhh.... /Fouad from family guy - alex7575, on 11/24/2007, -2/+11To each his own,
I remember not liking wine (as the alcoholic drink) just because I'll hear my dumb pretentious friends talking about the flavors, aromas and colors from the cheap wine they were drinking ("oak", "berries", "cheese", among the ***** they'll taste in their wine), so I always thought wine drinkers were just full of crock (which I still kinda think that way). So fast forward until this trip to a winery in Napa (when in Rome... right?), and there was this guy, our guide, took us on a tour and explained the process, from the grapes (which taste like *****) to the final wine (which had an "earthy" tone according to this old lady with more plastic surgery on her face than a military ward with wounded soldiers.).
At the end of the tour I asked him (mainly to see what kinda crock he was going to try to feed me) how do I pick a good wine, this is what he told me:
"It takes time and patience (great I thought, I lack either), just go out and try different wines, and when you finally find the wine that suits your taste... you have found your first "good" wine.
Words to live by.
P.S.: If you can't see what I did there, then just digg me down and move forward, my post is not for you.- K3ITHK, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1I see what you did there.

- aliguana, on 11/24/2007, -1/+3Adobe Illustrator
- sinfony, on 11/24/2007, -1/+4Just because there are Linux programs that do some of the same things as Windows programs, they certainly aren't equivalents. Audacity is nothing compared to Audition. GIMP is nothing compared to Photoshop. Ardour is nothing compared to ProTools. Let's not get carried away.
- harviylopez, on 11/24/2007, -1/+1wow....go LINUX
- alsundma, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2Thanks for the list. A good reference.

List stolen directly from www.linuxappfinder.com- DrSpud, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2Yup. http://www.linuxappfinder.com/alternatives has a much more complete list, including some I noted as missing below.
- zach4618, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1None of the listed alternatives to Dreamweaver can really be compared. I recently switched over to Ubuntu from XP and am still searching for a replacement for Dreamweaver 8. Overall I am really pleased with my switch to Linux but Ive tried all of those listed and none of them do what Dreamweaver did. Right now I am just using gedit and gftp.
- aliguana, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1try Aptana
- zach4618, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1Aptana is the best ive seen yet. Thanks for the tip. Wonder why I havent heard of it before.
- aliguana, on 11/24/2007, -0/+1try Aptana
- DrSpud, on 11/24/2007, -0/+2K3B fits in the CDex category as well as in Nero. It can do different levels of error detection/correction.
AmaroK is a case where the 'equivalent' is better (IMHO). There are very few places it could be improved.
Kontact is an excellent Outlook replacement that works amazingly well. Very surprising that it's missing.
Also, Kaffeine works pretty darn well for video playback.
I even found something new: I've never heard of KIso before - it's nice to finally have something to edit/extract iso's without opening up a console to mount an image.- CBZKT, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1Agreed, Amarok is better than its equivalent, and that's coming from a former apple fanboy. I'm pretty excited that it's coming out for windows and Mac with version 2, Maybe it'll give iTunes and WMP a run for their money
- motheroats, on 11/24/2007, -3/+1um excuse me, BUT WHERE THE ***** IS uTORRENT???
- ggarron, on 11/25/2007, -1/+1Good list to find equivalent software in Linux to software in Windows,
