- Justathought, on 11/20/2008, -2/+8Linux lacks nothing as an OS. Most people should be running Linux today as it could satisfy all their needs already with flying colors. A few people depend on applications that are still not available on Linux, but those are very few in comparison to the masses of people running virus and spyware infested Windows bots.
- Ynot82, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5cause most people are not technically inclined and will just use what they're given
- manstein01, on 11/20/2008, -1/+6Because it does not provide everyone's needs in an OS. The same reason why everyone does not run OSX or Windows.
- smotpoker, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4Because MS and it's partners have been and continue to conspire to remove such possibilities pretty much since the birth of the PC industry.
- forknife, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1well the whole save as controversy should be gone soon, but there's still the problem of the thousands of enterprise applications that businesses use on a daily basis that keep large amounts of daily use PCs from being converted. I suppose that's the underlying problem, the only tangential difference I can see for home computing is games and having to save as for now, 99% of what the ordinary person uses a computer for is OS independent.
- forknife, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Because people don't want to learn to 'Save As.' Having to save your openoffice.org files in .doc format requires one extra step. Also most businesses insist on using windows only proprietary software to perform specific functions. The solid development of WINE could move many businesses and governments over. Cheers to the idea that most people don't really care about the OS as long as it doesn't get in the way.
- dcherryholmes, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1You can set up Open Office to save as .doc by default, if you wish. And MSFT's next version of Office will understand odf without the need for plugins.

Why should they have to use .doc rather than an open format compatible with more software? Because MS pushed it onto companies/schools and made it Word's default?
Not to say your answer is incorrect, just pointing out it is only part of the answer. A symptom of an underlying problem rather than the problem itself. - razorxpress, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1Because my favourite game does not work on Linux
