- neko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Gods no, no NO! Windows is what I'm trying to get away from!
As long as I'm alive, Linux (as in "The entirety of all Linux based OSes everywhere ever") will never be like Windows.
If you want an OS that is based on Linux but closer to the Windows way of things, I'd guess it is Linspire.
If you want an OS that's based on Linux that is better than Windows while still being easy to pick up, that's probably Suse.
If you want an OS that is free and libre and aims for perfect compatibility with Windows, that's ReactOS.
I don't want my Linux-based OS to be anything like kernel32.dll-based Windows. I'll be over here, using Debian and Ubuntu. kthxbye. - ylikone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3***** the mainstream market.

lol Nah, you go first. - XVampireX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2seopher: You missed an article where someone explains exactly why linux SHOULDN'T be like windows and what REALLY prevents it from becoming mainstream.
http://penguinpetes.com/b2evo/index.php?p=154&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2linux shouldnt become windows. it should, however, offer appeals to the business sector. Thats where the bulk of the market is. Think about it: a 100% compatable, easy to migrate solution that allows a company to drop their expensive OS license and still access the stuff they need? its perfect. the problem is running legacy and internal software. Unless there is a good way (and don't you dare say wine) to do that, as well as have a 100% compatable office replacement (the current open source options are getting there, but as far as i'm concerned are still not replacements), Linux will never acquire the largest userbase necessary.
- seopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it isn't about whether it is or isn't, all I'm saying is that to gain users it would need to offer a sense of migration. I didn't say that would be a good idea for Linux purists, just that it would probably increase the user-base (or have the better chance of).
Or, as drunknjew said, make the business environment a real priority. - tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i agree
- Inhibit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Xandros. All the commericialization and look of Windows with a far sexier OS underneath.
