What open source could learn from Apple

  • ieee, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2Free(dom) and Open Source programmers are traditionally back end people and Apple has been a front end, consumer centric company. That accounts for the difference right there. I remember Richard Stallman saying in a speech in Washington DC a few years ago that he viewed a then GUI-less GNU as an "inconvenience". To an uber tech guy like him it is, but not ordinary people. Stallman wants political power behind his movement and that means winning over ordinary people. That means making software that they find a convenience.
