- Philluminati, on 01/17/2008, -1/+19Congratulations on managing to squeeze the word Ubuntu in there.

- tlynch, on 01/17/2008, -2/+9You can get a much better laptop for $399.
- Waskonator, on 01/17/2008, -0/+7Google's Ubuntu that they use is completely internal. It was custom made for them, not for commercial use.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goobuntu - mattdr488, on 01/17/2008, -0/+6This is a competitor with the EEE not a regular 7 pound notebook
- inactive, on 01/17/2008, -2/+7try to re submit it with a correct title
- Kinickie, on 01/17/2008, -0/+4Doesn't any computer with internet access include YouTube, Google Maps, and Facebook, not to mention the ability to download everything else included on this laptop?
- Waskonator, on 01/17/2008, -0/+4You should have put quotes around "Google" then.
- asauterChicago, on 01/17/2008, -1/+5OMFG, people please read... from the article: "The Ubuntu Linux-based gOS operating system from Good OS LLC (www.thinkgos.com) includes so many Google applications like Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google News Google Maps and YouTube that it's often referred to as the Google operating system"
This place is becoming Youtube. - inactive, on 01/17/2008, -1/+5Asus Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepc ftw
- underthewether, on 01/17/2008, -1/+5gOS is based on ubuntu
- inactive, on 01/17/2008, -1/+4Woot, cheap PCs for the masses!
- asauterChicago, on 01/17/2008, -0/+3It's amazing how far Linux has come. 4 years ago you're average joe would have no clue what a Linux operating system was. There was simply Windows and AOL (teh internets). Now we actually have some competition out there from Mac and Linux Oses. It's amazing you can buy a Linux system now at Walmart, of all places :-).
- hayzeus, on 01/17/2008, -0/+3It "includes facebook"? What?
- cotaskmemalloc, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2Burried as 'unbelievably stupid' inaccurate. Gee, how generous of them to offer Gmail, Google Docs AND Youtube! I wish I could buy a PC that came with those!
- iskatebad914, on 01/17/2008, -2/+4Wow this website is an abomination. I might have dugg if I could read it without sifting through ***** ads.
- wrockwood, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2buried. blogspam ftl.
- blackmage439, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Buried for spam.
A website with more ad banners than content? Shame on you.
A website that spawns a buggy flash pop-up promoting their own ***** site? Complete and utter *****. - sbassi, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Why it is called Ubuntu Laptop?
- MattBD, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Yes, and Dell and Asus as well. Also, here in the UK, Tesco (the largest supermarket chain) is selling a cheap PC with preinstalled Ubuntu on its website.
I'm hoping that Asda (a Wal-Mart owned chain in the UK) will start selling the Cloudbook, as I really want one! - inactive, on 01/17/2008, -3/+4greenOS
- MattBD, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1I actually think that if preinstalled, Linux is a better OS for the newbie than Windows. If preinstalled, you don't have hardware issues with it. In my experience, Linux is easier to administer in many ways - you don't have to worry about your hard drive filling up with viruses.
I agree that there are people who will complain when software doesn't work, but it's possible to get software for Linux even now - just check out CNR. Maybe if gOS were to start including support for that out of the box (which may well be easy seeing as it's based on Ubuntu), that might be a good idea. - Zaggynl, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Hear hear, how could this get past in Firefox >:(
- inactive, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1While I think it's great that GNU/Linux machines are hitting the mainstream market, I don't think Wal-Mart is a great place to sell it. Let's face it, most average consumers have no idea what Linux is, or it's lack of compatability with hardware and software.
Now, you if purchased a Linux CPU at a computer store, the salesperson is more likely to be educated enough to ask the customer questions like what they plan to use the computer for, and could help them decide if a Linux machine is what they need. Try getting that kind of knowledge from a Wal-Mart employee! This creates confusion, and I'm almost certain that there will be many customers that only see the price, and not understand what OS the computer runs. They will buy this laptop, and then want to return it when they can't play their online games, run their current Windows software, or can't figure out why their printer doesn't work.
Linux is great, but until software and hardware manufacturing companies start supporting it, Linux will never succeed in the "average" consumer market. - Just, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1yeah I'm with you on this one, anyone how do they put youtube and facebook on ur laptop ?
the entire database accessible offline or what?
anyone has any theories ? - ZeeshanHasan, on 01/17/2008, -1/+2its not Google OS its Green OS
- MV559er, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1It's great that it "includes" all these websites..... Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google News, Google Maps, YouTube, Facebook :-/
- JasonCox, on 01/17/2008, -3/+4$399? Dude, I'm still getting a Dell!
- impei, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Picture of actual product:
http://www.everex.com/ - Rileyper, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Is it me or wasn't this announced last week @ CES08
- TheSwashbuckler, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1"It includes Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google News, Google Maps, YouTube, Firefox, Skype, Facebook and OpenOffice"
Well, by including Firefox it automatically included Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar, News, Maps and YouTube...
Geesh! - google01103, on 01/17/2008, -1/+2isn't time then any title that contains the word Ubuntu be outlawed unless the post is specific to it - I'm starting to think there's little Unbuntuians that spend there days figuring ways to take credit where credit isn't do.
- Philluminati, on 01/25/2008, -1/+1That's only in the title to make people click it and you know it!
- 350Zed, on 01/17/2008, -4/+4Therefore, you're spreading inaccurate stories... Therefore, BURY.
Congratulations on posting without thinking. - mogebier, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1It's a laptop for my Mom and anyone else over 60. No frills. No power. *yawns*
- Waskonator, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1Cant it be both?
- 0011002, on 01/18/2008, -0/+0Poor mac is losing love! Windows lost...umm half it's complacent users with Vista but Ubuntu is making head way for Linux. So Ubuntu FTW
- flashingcurser, on 01/17/2008, -2/+2As far as I know it isn't even a canotical product either. (*buntu's)
- doomsayer, on 01/17/2008, -0/+0Wow a 7inch screen at 800x640. I think I will pass.
- sugarhigh4242, on 01/17/2008, -0/+0You guys need to lay off the poster's nuts. The source headline is identical to the Digg headline.
I think this is kind of cool (more exciting than MacBook AIR imo), but i want to see it in person. - asauterChicago, on 01/17/2008, -3/+2Thank you for being the 7th person to point this out on this page, as the article states this is merely slang people are using for the OS since it's loaded up with so many goolge apps. Note: "The Ubuntu Linux-based gOS operating system from Good OS LLC (www.thinkgos.com) includes so many Google applications like Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google News Google Maps and YouTube that it's often referred to as the Google operating system"
So the article, plus 8 other people, plus probably 10 more will now inform us that gOS != Google OS. Thanks... - jackshellac, on 01/17/2008, -2/+1OK I might just have to stop my Walmart boycott for this one. Yeah I'm a hypocrite.
- schestowitz, on 01/17/2008, -9/+7This is the third report I see this week which calls it "Google O/S". The disinformation is spreading.
- inactive, on 01/17/2008, -3/+1Yeah its not ubuntu based ubuntu isn't an OS . Its a software packaged based on the Debain linux distro.
If anything it should says Debian linux-based os - inactive, on 01/17/2008, -7/+4 As long as this has been talked about you think people would know it's not Google's.*sigh*
