- cday, on 09/06/2008, -0/+8Funny that in this 'unbiased' review, there's no mention of DRM, WGA, or Activation nonsense, or Silverlight, or the lack of honest support for open standards. But Windows Vista is worth the price in the end, right?
Those who understand that sometimes the "cost" can be greater than the price, might beg to differ. - kd420, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Pretty fair review, compared to most where there is a very obvious bias and motive. I guess if you think the OS's are comparable you have to ask yourself whether you need to spend hundreds of dollars for software or have it all for free.
- php4me, on 09/05/2008, -1/+8I dont remember everyone complaining about XP. In fact I remember the opposite. Revisionist history?
- roebeet, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3I agree with php4me - XP never got the bad press that Vista does - it merged the 9x and NT codebases and it's only serious problem early-on was application compatibility (which was to be expected). Vista is a very different animal.
- Tvrtko999, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1No offense but I'm just sick of the Microsoft vs. Linux articles, but i dugg this for the nice work.
- inactive, on 09/06/2008, -2/+1Since almost all the popular linux apps are also available on Windows, what Linux really needs is an absolutely kick-ass desktop environment. GNOME is absolutely horrible, KDE is pretty nice, but they need to make something that takes advantage of customization and open-source to its fullest and shuts up even the Apple fanboys. Compiz is one good example of this, but it's mostly eye candy and still doesn't make Linux dramatically more usable.
Linux also needs a good office suite. OpenOffice has nothing over MS Office 2007, sorry. - theycensoredme, on 09/05/2008, -3/+2I do think it is unfair to evaluate performance on such a low-end machine, but they did a good job overall of giving an unbiased report.
Vista is not as bad as its reputation, especially since SP1. SP2 will be the like XP SP2 in solidifying the operating system and winning over more users. Don't be surprised when Windows 7 comes out to hear people complaining about how Vista is better, like they are doing now with XP.
