- willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+242Maybe they meant *lynx*
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+193maybe someone should tell Verizon to stop running their servers on Linux and Apache
- ZoTheGorilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+119I copied what was said:
My computer is a Mac, PC, or Linux - will this test work for me?
Yes. The techniques used to build these pages are not operating system specific. However, the Speedtest tool should work for every browser that supports simple JavaScript and tables. The noted exception to this is Linux, which supports neither JavaScript nor tables. - omgomgomg, on 10/12/2007, -14/+100cacoe.. you are SO STUPID. linux has nothing to do with table support. you suck at life.
- teckjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+78Maybe they think your so hardcore linux you browse the web in VI
- Mithrander, on 10/12/2007, -3/+79I disable javascript support in linux. I just interpret the javascript with my brain.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+80April Fools!
- cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+69wget the html file and read it in nano

wow, people like you make me amazingly angry.
If you had tried a modern distro like ubuntu you would realise that those things aren't a problem anymore.
stop taking crap about things you do not understand. - pentium4borg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+58Screenshot at http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/2266/verizonlinuxvs5.png
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+56And JavaScript and table support apparently.
- deadowl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58There are like 50 gajillion web browsers for Linux.

Irony, etc. - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -10/+57@ cacoe
This is exactly how hard it is to install and configure Linux in 2007:
1. Turn on computer
2. Insert CD
3. Choose "Install to hard drive" - hackajar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+47@cacos
Tell me you were just being sarcastic ;) - Renton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41It's true. I put my kitchen table on my linux computer and it collapsed.
- praetis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39There's an issue with cookies that causes redirection, so my link won't take you directly to the page. Follow these steps to see it:
1) Click "Go" at the bottom of the linked page
2) Revisit the link - Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38@tippmann1
Hint: It was a joke. - ShawnC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37That's OK, Verizon doesn't support their users...so it kinda works out both ways.
- rabidgnome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Considering that this is digg I'm gonna go ahead and guess that, yes, somebody in here has seen that clip
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37#1 thing holding Linux back:
Ignorance - jasmin888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Funny thing is I went there first with javascript disabled and got a completely different page - one with several choices to get informations on various connection types. I then enabled javascript, and when I went back again I got the funny message.
So it appears Verizon only wants to tell javascript enabled linux users about their "disabilities". - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Probably faster than actual JS to be honest. Oh we're going to do a minor left shift operation, expected time of completion t = 5 hours.
- jma06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31>> I disable javascript support in linux. I just interpret the javascript with my brain.
One of these days some one is going to cross-site script attack your brain :-). - snoonan77, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35They meant to say Lynx.
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30I browse the web using telnet.

(HTML displays here) - zachninme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Note how the order: "Mac, PC, Linux".
At least they are decent enough to put PC first.
On a separate note, if PC is personal computer, when did PC = Windows start? Mac's are PC's technically, same goes for Linux. - eean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Lynx doesn't support tables really...
links and w3m do though. - milesdavis22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Has anyone here seen that clip on YouTube (it was on the frontpage of digg) where Verizon can't tell the difference between .01 cents and .0001 cents, which caused a Verizon user to be charged $70 instead of 7 cents?
- TriZz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Verizon customer support is seriously flawed.
We have some users in our New York office that use Verizon DSL and for some reason can't VPN into the office. These users work fine from the office (piggy-backing on an open wifi), and from Starbucks, Panera, friends houses (that don't use Verizon). So, we instructed our users to call Verizon and ask them to help...because it's obviously something in their line or their modem that's preventing a VPN connection.
They told our user that they don't support "Virtual Professional Networks". HAHA! Maybe that's why the connection isn't working...because we need to turn it into a professional network? HAHAHA! I hate Verizon. - blubloblu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23@cacoe (#6045115)
Yet another reason to standardize the use of the tag. - BHSPitMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Linux isn't technically an OS, it's a kernel.
- mourner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Oh yeah, the question was meant to look like "My Computer is a Mac, PC or Lynx", and Lynx is an operating system. Sure.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Technically they're right. The Linux kernel does not include support for tables or javascript. That's something your web browser should really take care of instead.
- Kevin108, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17The math whizzes from billing got promoted to IT, I see.
- monospaced, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Mac and PC are not really operating systems...
- javascriptdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16http://netservices.verizon.net/portal/link/help/item?linkflag=verizon&case=17958
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18How can a computer be "a Linux"?
- yoda17, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Did Help & Support answer your question?
Yes, just incorrectly. - antiNeo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Hey! Linux is a Unix clone, not a Windows clone. There's no need to put everything in the kernel!
- imfm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Perhaps they watched one too many, "Hello, I'm a Mac..." commercials?
- MAdaXe42, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Lynx supports tables.
- rasputinaxp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@TriZz:
Verizon NYC's DSL modems are acutally routers, and they block VPN access within it. They have to go into the router and turn off the port blocking. - eean, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15PC has refered to the Intel/IBM architecture from the beginning. So Mac/PC makes sense, Mac/PC/Linux less so.
Given that they meant Mac/PC/Lynx apparently, its all the more confusing. - ShawnC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I can just see the insurance adjuster...
"Wow, the table crashed and the computers still running, you must have been running linux..." - eean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Scott Adams worked for Bell/Lucent developing ISDN. The phone company is the pointy haired boss's natural habitat.
- lampshade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Verizon websites are some of the poorest designed websites on the net. I'm not surprised by this at all.
Their pix place, the place where your camera phone uploads its digital photos, is terrible! https://www.vzwpix.com/login.do
Ugh! I mean, cool, it uses all the new techs and everything but is complete and UTTER YUCK on the UI. It only gets worse as you login and start going through the menus.
From what I can tell, their webmasters have either never actually used one of their own products, or they have a pointy-haired boss that only allows what they think is "Hip" onto the websites. - mbrindam, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16@cacoe - I got ya... no worries. Mine works.
