- mvent2, on 12/12/2007, -3/+9So you hit a button, and it will connect your phone, open a file manager, detect the phone model and open its file directory, transfer files from it, transfer files to it, read the address book and messages, find an MP3 on your computer you want to set as a ringtone based on mind-reading, cut down the MP3 to ringtone length, find a way to work around your phone provider's restrictions on ringtones, restart your phone, find that MP3 file, set it as your ringtone, then start recording video, transferring the video and converting it to any file format? What magical OS is this?
- makario, on 09/03/2009, -0/+5No.
- sevenalive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+4Thats because your phone uses usb 1.1 Depending on the file sizes, then ya thats about right.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, but what I was trying to say is that I don't use Nautilus to navigate through the phone filesystem.
- sloppychris, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1I tried bitpm with my vx8300 and a cable, which went extremely slow. Like ~3 hours to transfer a cd of 128kbps music.

- Steve Jobs - sloppychris, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm. Seems to make sense. Thanks!
- neko, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1I usually just move files to my phone by typing obex:// into Nautilus (in fact, I've bookmarked it. Wish something would show up in the Computer view though.). I don't really feel the need to synchronize address books and calendar info, but this Bitpim thing looks interesting enough. I think there's also a way to sync phones with Evolution now.
For large file transfers though, you just can't beat whipping the SD card out and shoving it into a card reader. Much much faster than transferring over bluetooth. - inactive, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1I easily share files between my PC and my cellphone through bluetooth. I don't use the file manager to do so because it is painfully slow so I just send the files I want with Nautilus.
- Daniel15, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1This didn't work with my Sony Ericsson Z550i, however, Wammu did. Wammu didn't need me to edit my rfcomm.conf file either.
Installation of Wammu is a simple "apt-get install wammu python-bluez" on Debian-based distributions (including Ubuntu) - trenchfever, on 12/12/2007, -0/+1Can you use that bluetooth connection to put linux inside the offending device that vehemently refuses to be assimilated. Then we are talking. In the mean time.. Yawn!
- PJBovoNox, on 12/12/2007, -1/+1This just proves that 'even grandma can do it'.
- muffinmanpoo, on 12/12/2007, -1/+1Umm... isn't Nautilus a file manager?
- pfwd, on 12/12/2007, -1/+1Bookmarked under Linux useful sites.
- onelove, on 12/12/2007, -4/+2I like the ability to add mp3 ringtones of my choice
- Rubab, on 12/12/2007, -4/+1great idea...
- VeniceCA, on 12/12/2007, -5/+2I so want to get my treo 700w working on Ubuntu. Please hear me Santa.
- inbyronwetrust, on 12/12/2007, -8/+0Bluetooth has been out for over 6 years.. does this mean you couldn't link to your linux box before this..?
- Nerfdude, on 12/12/2007, -16/+3yeah, i mean, that's only like three pages of reading. i'd far rather do that than just hit a button. who doesn't love working for their features?
