- kingdurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those instructions for installing Firefox 2 on Dapper are insane. It shouldn't be that hard! Also, it leaves two installations of Firefox on the machine, which is not just insane, but stupid.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You don't need to follow all those steps, as it says in the wiki: "There is a shell script that automates these installation instructions for the newest Firefox, available here http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/firefox"
I agree, it should be easier and I am frankly surprised that it isn't available in Dapper backports ( I haven't looked but if it were they wouldn't have a guide ) but I really don't see what is wrong with having two versions of FF installed as long as they don't conflict, FF doesn't take up much space, My suggestion though is that if you don't like linux, don't use it. Criticism is a good thing and if you had submitted a bug report that Firefox 2.0 should be easier to install somebody may have done something about it ( things are only put into backports if people ask for them ) but complaining on your blog and harassing people is not going to help anyone. I wish you the best of luck with whatever OS you decide to use and hope that you try again later on as desktop Linux gets better every year. - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Join #Ubuntu on irc.freenode.net and I would be happy to try to help you fix this problem, and, just so you know, you don't need to upgrade to Edgy to get firefox 2.0 , I would suggest checking the documentation at help.ubuntu.com when you run into a problem as most common questions are covered there including instructions for installing Firefox 2.0 on Dapper https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxNewVersion.

The submitter is sworn Windows apologist who submits this stuff to the Linux/UNIX section. A Dvorak manoeuvre...
