- zephyrxero, on 11/21/2007, -1/+8I'm willing to bet that "middleware" legal issue involves either Microsoft, Sony or both.... of course MS doesn't want Linux ports, it's a much bigger threat than Apple ever will be.
- mooninite, on 11/22/2007, -0/+4Won't be buying UT3 until the Linux client is available. Maybe it will be out in time for Christmas when I get a new mouse. I need something to try it out on. ^^
Talk about anti-competitive though. Microsoft's inflexibility will cost them their business. Wal-Mart will be the one pushing the first domino (with the Linux PC). - Cheeseness, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3I dunno. Ryan's been doing this for a fair while. He's likely to be pretty aware of what's OK and what's not.
When he says "If I told you, you wouldn't believe me," it makes me think it's something really small and petty that's blocking the whole release. - jabailo, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2It seems that UT3 is only available for PC (windows) and PS3. I don't see anything else in the supported platform list, such as XBox.
I built a PC last week specifically to run Ut3 ( Athlon 64, NX8800GT hot of the press, 2GB Ram -- the works). It's fantastic in XP, but I really want to get it up and running in Linux. I'm hoping that anyone buying the PC client gets the rights to download and use the Linux version. - greyfade, on 11/21/2007, -1/+3OMG, I'm gonna cry. I was so looking forward to seeing this soon-ish.
- dx9s, on 01/14/2008, -0/+0The fact that there is a dedicated server means two things (both of which are debatable) .
1) A Linux client for UT3 is likely however it will probably be delayed for a while as I suspect a "lockout" for WinHoles and PS3 is in place
2) The fact that a dedicated server is out means **they** (the ones possibly locking out) want to promote the game in ways that can't even be described in a short blurb here
expand on #2: What good is a multi-player game w/o dedicated servers (kind of defeats the purpose of the game), and what is the cheapest way to get a server up? (as free as possible) Thus the reasons why a dedicated server for Linux helps to promote the game for this "possible" lockout but at the same time opens the door for a Linux client!
Midway might have been a bad choice to partner up with for Epic if they are going to intentionally delay what they claimed ... Then again it might be just technical issues coupled with deadlines and we are all reading too much into this :P - Tavo, on 11/21/2007, -2/+0It's sad... laws suck!
