- directrix13, on 11/10/2008, -1/+12Ubuntu is a hell of a lot more than just a kernel. They contribute plenty.

- jnuffnuffnomnom, on 11/10/2008, -0/+9I heard Duke Nukem Forever is being released for it.
- TheMandibleClaw, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10Jaunty Jackalope ... has a nice ring to it
- skyshock1, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7Once you can learn how to spell Ubuntu (it's right there in the story title, LOOK!) you might have something.
- skyshock1, on 11/10/2008, -5/+11I sincerely hope they start contributing back to the Linux kernel the way Red Hat does. Right now, they hardly contribute anything to the kernel.
-ubuntu user - nkassi, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5so, has canonical taken the view that only consumer visible projects are worthwhile? Really i'd like to see a push for ubuntu for manageability. Ubuntu has nowhere near the amount of administration tools that Redhat and Suse. I think the user side has been done quite well, better than anyone before it and as good or better than the commercial competition.
Please help us poor admin manage our desktop centrally. Then I could put tons of Ubuntu desktops all over the place as easily as I can with windows boxes. - LordC, on 11/10/2008, -2/+7Who is this Mr Baby Man and why don't we like him?
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5Plenty of people contribute to the already feature-complete Linux kernel. Ubuntu contributes heavily to Gnome and other user apps, where the contribution is needed.
- Krissam, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4It could very well have, there are quite a few commandline irc clients.
On the other hand, if this was your way of saying "linux sucks cuz im too stupid to type" Let me just tell you, I haven't HAD TO enter the terminal of my intrepid installation yet (been using it since alpha 3) - nmanguy, on 11/10/2008, -1/+5Dammit MBM, stop submitting good stuff.
- jlimon, on 11/10/2008, -0/+4I don't give a ***** who submits the good stories as long as they're good.
- kmesp86, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3It's a dead meme that has gone sour.

- Queue29, on 11/10/2008, -1/+3The kernel means nothing if you can't use it. Ubuntu is pretty good about making linux user friendly.
- Krissam, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2Hello Mr. Ballmer
- PrometheusZero, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1Fragmentation is not good if you really want to penetrate the market even harder. Consumers just get confused.
- revolve, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Fragmentation is not desirable; you should defragment every so often.
- Krissam, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1haha, usually i dont dare looking through comments on linux stories, because they mostly end up as flame wars, but i had to check just to find that one :)
- mmcgrath, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1I'll admit I'm a fan of mobility and Linux but I do have to ask.... how much money is there in it? How much money have you spent on a mobile OS in the last 5 years?
- JQP123, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1"Linux is a perfect platform for consumer electronics, and the rate of adoption there is fantastic, but it's highly fragmented."
OK, so ... I'm kinda' confused. Is fragmentation a good thing or a bad thing? On second thought, of course it's a "bad thing". When it's a "good thing", fragmentation is called "diversity". And "diversity" is an essential component of Open Source. It is one of Open Source's greatest strengths. And a popular Open Source advocate like Shuttleworth would never argue against diversity, would he? - extramedi14, on 02/13/2009, -0/+0i work on ubunt is much better then windows xp
