- pilobilus, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Why Ubuntu? Mark Shuttleworth was in the right place at the right time with the right stuff. It has the massive Debian distribution to draw on, which was 15 CDs last time I heard. Brilliant marketing. And from an end user's viewpoint, Ubuntu has the strongest online tech support for new kids due to its phenomenal growth.
- weizbox, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1I'm still amazed at how popular this single distro has been. Good marketing from Canonical perhaps?
If you think it's something unique to Ubuntu, let me know, as I'm still unsure what people see in it. Is it just the ease of the install, or is there more to it, post-install? I've played around with a lot of distros.. some work better with different hardware sets than others out-of-the-box... but once you get settled in, a lot of them seem pretty similar (at least for the majority of binary desktop distros). - SDL486, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1it's now today
