Or any other software that is available on Windows but not available on Mac or Linux. - liaml, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What about using Wine (http://winehq.org/) to run Windows apps?
- DaveV, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Ah, you expect joe user to use wine? Most average home users don't even want to use a command line.
- cloakeddagger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wine isn't beyond your average 12 year old (you don't have to use a command line, install wine and double click a compatible windows app, check appdb.winehq.com for any trickier apps), but besides that there's even easier options.crossover office, wine-doors, cedega.... etc.
- Waterrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3 Why should they? The command line is so 1980's.
But yeah, there is Wine and Crossover Office.
I'm content using what apps work with Linux and no longer even feel I'm missing anything cause i don't have certain Windows apps.- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg comment for Crossover Office.

Becoming?????????????? - intelligentfool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've been using linux for the past year, and while there are some pro audio apps that i still need windows for, everything else can run just as good, if not better in linux. those Vista commercials showing off their "fancy" desktop effects make me laugh after installing Beryl, which from what i understand is going to be a one-click install in 7.04. The command line will always be there, but i think its fading into the background more and more with every new release.
- cloakeddagger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1as linux gets more and more market share, those apps that some people need will come along too, or be replaced by open source apps (they don't want that, its another factor which brings apps to linux, like nero with k3b)
