- iamjay, on 10/17/2008, -0/+38If you like dark theme try this one.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/ ... - inactive, on 10/17/2008, -1/+30before the next stupid scum posts "but who uses the default theme anyway"
A nice looking default theme is very important in impressing new users and it is always featured on reviews in the screenshots.
For someone coming from Windows they would be under the false impression that changing themes is difficult like in XP. - Vadi0, on 10/16/2008, -1/+23Including popular themes = win. I hope they delete some of the crappy ones that you can't (I suspect you need to be root to delete the crappy default ones... but feh, too much work!)
- dburanen, on 10/16/2008, -2/+16aka NewHuman
Looks like just a name change to me. Nothing to get too excited about. It's been there throughout Intrepid development.
It is better than the default theme! Here's hoping Ubuntu changes it. It slipped last release supposedly due to its LTS status. - catinthebox, on 10/17/2008, -0/+12Slightly less orange?
Hurray? - inactive, on 10/17/2008, -3/+14It's about time to give up on the stupid goddamned inverse-video themes that Windows ships with as default and that Mac users ARE STUCK WITH. Black text on a white background? What moron decided that people want to stare into a light bulb all day and read text off its surface?
Windows and Linux users can set up a legible, comfortable, and attractive color scheme in minutes. Meanwhile, the vaunted Mac UI is stuck in the late '80s. SAD. - Sokkratez, on 10/17/2008, -0/+11Yeah, probably. I still use Vista primarily because it does anything I could need. Since I haven't been using Linux for very long and want to keep user friendliness to a maximum, I use a more fleshed out distro that I don't have to configure as much. I recommend it to friends who want to begin using Linux. That or openSUSE since the installer is so nice.
Comments like this are a great way to keep people from trying and adopting Linux, though. Not everyone's as hard to offend as I am. - Heywoodj, on 10/17/2008, -1/+11Ah the equinox has past, the harvest feast has been eaten, and a stout goat has been burned.
It must be time for the bi-annual ritual de-browning of the Ubuntu. - enantiodromia, on 10/17/2008, -0/+9so its improved ubuntu, which is really just improved debian?
- flibblesan, on 10/17/2008, -0/+8Dust is my theme of choice
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/DustTheme ... - cmost, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6It "slipped" since Edgy Eft if you recall. Someone over at canonical has put their foot down and refuses to shift away from the orange / brown that has become the signature color of Ubuntu almost since its inaugural release. It's too bad many users can't stand it! Thankfully there are derivative distributions like Linux Mint that look far more professional and polished by default.
- Sokkratez, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6As I understand it, yes.
- dorkdork777, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6@srg13: First impressions make a difference.
- bjornski, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6I like that one.
- bjornski, on 10/17/2008, -1/+6Looks nice and clean, I like it.
- Sokkratez, on 10/17/2008, -4/+9I simply use Mint :) It's Ubuntu but improved.
- gazzerh, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5Orange. I can't see much orange on this...
By orange you mean brown yeah? - quelcertoleo, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5Personally I'd prefer they fix GVFS in nautilus, samba shares still don't work correctly.
- jlebrech, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4A popular themes MetaPackage would be awesome.
- kettlechips, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3is that in the repositories?
- infiniphunk, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3dude, go back to /b/
- turion64, on 10/17/2008, -1/+4***** off, no one wants your link.
shame on you. - hugolp, on 10/17/2008, -1/+3I like orange.
- lopla, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2when is 8.10 out? Isn't it any day now? I sure hope it fixes my flash problems.. sometimes i get flash sometimes i get grey boxes. annoying as hell.. I'd get the new flash10 but am on AMD64 /cry
- joshualamgroup, on 10/17/2008, -1/+3FTW=For the win? Who didn't know that?
- bratterscain, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2Not sure but it's a deb file which is easy to install.
- PhailQuail, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2I actually have tried to read a lightbulb before, was trying to find out what brand it was, and it needed to be on because it was dark otherwise.
- strupatn, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2I agree 100%. The light bulb analogy is perfect ( it's almost not even an analogy ).
- mcrules, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2I agree totally, but you must always bear in mind "the lowest common denominator", we cant have compiz powered eye candy or anything unusual because it may not work with some software configurations. I am torn on the brown issue. I know they could pick a different one but...
How much free exposure has Ubuntu got because of its default colour scheme? Its almost becoming a running joke with some journalists. personally i like the human theme. I do switch wallpapers, but I am more interested in web browsing and WoW than how it looks. I do understand why people care about the look though, and I will be interested in seeing where all this 'debate' is going to take Ubuntu :) - inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2so hot that you cant ever use half of it. Seriously, wait for a year more. By then KDE4 might be stable. But for now i rather have Vista (and i am a freaking XP user) then any KDE4 distro.
- solarwind24, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2Improved would be the wrong term here. I would call it more... "customized".
- eddie72, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors
- DreadKnight, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2Get Hot New Stuff ftw... in KDE4.
- BrendanSheehan, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2Anyone have a Live CD download link?
- solarwind24, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2I honestly like the wallpaper.
- dorkdork777, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1You go ahead and do that. Why comment?
- MobileFrogge, on 10/17/2008, -1/+2a lack of themes, yeah that's what's been keeping people away from linux... how about including drivers for the crazy obscure hardware.. like wireless cards
- solarwind24, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1It's not in the repos, but you can download it from the link posted above.
- KingCritter, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1I never really understood the "light bulb" analogy. Does everyone but me use their computer in total darkness or something?
- lowtolerance, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1yeah, i'd have to agree that this is still linux's weakest point - wireless access. even pretty popular cards can be a bitch to configure, and no newbie would ever know where to begin. still, blame the hardware manufacturers for taking the cheap way out.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1See that little word "Reply" in blue...you can click on it.
- turezky, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1This theme is simply disgusting :)
You can derive the same theme from default one in Hardy by changing the color scheme...
Mark Shuttleworth promised something outstanding... Hope he keeps his word...
And if this is what is planned for release - :(, I'm buying myself a Mac :D - enantiodromia, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1really. no answer, just a bury?
i hate the fact ubuntu has created an army of idiots. - agentlame, on 10/17/2008, -1/+2You're doing it wrong.
- evilgourmet, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1At the install screen, you should be able to choose from a couple of themes.
If you are connected to the network, you should be able to choose from more (gnome-look or kde-look).
I think it would be a simple matter to include this feature, with the option of remaining default.
Sound reasonable? - Biznarie, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't say improved, It's not really better then ubuntu. But as all linux distros are tweaked for different types of users. From what I've seen first time linux users will have less trouble with Mint compared to ubuntu.
- inactive, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1Most diggers fear the sun. It's true.
- TheWindBlows, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1Only issue with KDE4 is the menu the rest of the things in it are wonderful. Powerful, but still very simplistic in design. The menu is improved with the Lancelot Menu available for it.
I can't say the same for windows not even vista. Vista has a mess of an interface I got lost and confused when using it can't say the same for KDE4/GNOME. - pHr34kY, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1This theme looks awesome on a netbook running the netbook remix. On a desktop, maybe not so much. I'm definitely leaving the theme on my netbook.
- mikedoth, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1By then i'm hoping HaikuOS will be up and running ; )
