- schestowitz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Already been in the front page, but definitely worth repeating. They could take Debian to task in that segment. In the embedded space, Debian is currently favoured, according to the latest linuxdevices.com survey. Just don't let them steal Debian's thunder again... it might upset them even more and raise tensions... ;-)
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yeah ubuntile doesn't have the same ring to it. :)

Don't be a fool. Linux has been around there for ages, and it is whooping Windows' ass in that sector, despite the fact that Microsoft set the cost at $3 seveal years ago. Windows Mobile is part of one of the most disasterious (highlest losses) divisions in Microsoft, IIRC, and it will be Linux that inherits Symbian's place.

http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/feature-mobile-linux-why-it-will-become-the-dominant-mobile-os/2007-01-03 - bikini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the article mentions ubuntu mobile collaborating with intel, who is working on a new chipset architecture.
are these two things unrelated? or will ubuntu mobile only run on mobile phones with the new chipset instead of current devices running windows mobile, palm, etc.? - polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43.5
- SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How many mobile Linux distros do we need?
This is not the desktop. People will not compile their applications on their phones. The carriers won't supply six different versions of the same overpriced piece of software, for Qtopia, ALP, PalmLinux, MobileUbuntu, GPE, QPE, etc; they'll offer one version, and nothing more.
On the mobile space, this level of choice actually hurts the viability of the platform. We need to focus on one distribution, and make it good. This could be it, but I believe ALP and/or Palm have a better shot than Ubuntu here. - chad78, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How many Linux distros do we need?
- Phlosten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought the Ubuntu news was great. Then I decided to install Debian on all my systems. :)
- neodorian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Between this and the rumors of an upcoming Linux Treo it looks like I'll be ready for a new phone when my 2 years are up next spring. good timing.
- darkhero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5What are we going to do today Linux. Same thing we do everyday, try take over the world. Go Linux!
- lampshade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wish I could have this on my phone. Right now I have the crappy verizon interface. Sooooo terrible. It would be gone already if the process to remove it and hackishly put on something like Alltel's software didn't take more than three pages of instructions and multiple programs.
- ozsynergy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ubuntu is getting a carried away...
How about they release a working mobile "Laptop" version first?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/89853 - Cherubim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I for one would welcome a version of Ubuntu for the PocketPC. Windows mobile is a joke and is far too unstable for serious work.
- Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1YAY! RandaIIs back!! Woohoo! For a while there I thought I hurt his wittle pheewings.
I call the black sheep! Bahaah - mattwestm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I personally wouldn't want Ubuntu on my phone. Most likely, this will render the phone useless since most cell phone carriers are very proprietary. It would end up voiding the warranty most likely.
- SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mobile != Desktop.
It's easy to compile your software under a different desktop distro. Try to compile a full browser on your phone ;) - djphatjive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Mobuntle Linux, Mubuntle Linux
- Sylicon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Hmmm, future portable Ubuntu Server? I could find a use for that :)
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I kinda think that ipod Linux on the Zune would be a fairly hilarious, but appropriate, way to go.
- kalpeshsharma, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Nice to see that they're finally catching up with Windows. Dugg!
