- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13What a fantastic idea. It's amazing to see how far the FOSS community has come. First we hear that Fawn has first-class support for installing proprietary drivers, now online clinics for getting familiar with Ubuntu? Bravo!
Ten years ago "Open Week" could have been summed up like this:
linix_newbie has joined #linux.howto
[linix_newbie]: Hey I'm having trouble installing Linux - my CDROM drive isn't being recognized. I've tried everything.
[gen_roflmao]: RTFM N00b!
[l33thax0r]: STFU!
*** linux_newbie has been kicked from #linux.howto by g0dl1ke (Read the FAQ) - redsmoke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10buried for inaccuracy, there have been a number of enhancements in feisty! Wireless drivers just work in feisty there is no guess work, Windows migration tool, easy codec installation, desktop effects, etc! This release is far more stable and user friendly than edgy was a few months back.
- elkbuntu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Ubuntu Women is *not* a dating service. Do not even bother to try use it as one.
- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Well you know...nobody is stopping you from staying with Edgy. No need to come on here and complain about your experience with Feisty. And maybe you have just lucked out with your system setup...but I know for a fact there's a lot of users out there for which Feisty was HUGE improvement, with a lot more restricted driver support and such, that might go unnoticed, to people such as yourself, in which Ubuntu worked flawlessly in previous versions.
- generalloy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8But you also get Gnome 2.18 and a new kernel. That alone makes me happy :)
- thesquirrelwood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9These are great. I attended the last open week. You get to talk with a lot of the people involved with ubuntu and learn a bunch of stuff too. Mark Shuttleworth even shows up!
- mykool, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Ubuntu Studio is the distro I have been waiting for, why no news of the Ubuntu Studio? Isn't it due to be released soon? I guess I will research it a bit.
- generalloy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Multiple displays is coming in Xorg 7.3.
Or download the XRandr 1.2 .deb packages here: http://burtonini.com/blog/computers/randr-2007-02-06-17-50
BTW I believe Feisty+2 is the next long term release, but Feisty itself isn't LTS. - birrioso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sat 28th Apr
20.00 Ubuntu Studio - Cory Kontros
i guess will get more info that day - pkonink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_Studio_launches_tomorrow_alongside_Ubuntu_7_04_Feisty_Fawn
- Jeremy23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, it's not an LTS release; neither will be 7.10. Check your facts, dude.
- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I remember reading the initial blurb about it awhile back, but ever since, I haven't heard much news about the project.
- philbull, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1There have been far more improvements than just new artwork and driver support! I agree that many changes have been minor, but they all add up...

(The last link is to my own blog (no advertising), sorry to self-promote, but I made a list of 41 new features in Feisty which seemed relevant). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1GOOD maybe I can make something for smb.conf in the terminal.

Ubuntu Women - Belinda Lopez
Its lady's nigh... morning? yay. get in there to pick up all the fine ubuntu honeys.
that said i wonder how much this is going to cost the IT industries with all the people at work doing this instead of working? I know i will be. - rusty0101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Probably a net gain, in that the productivity lost in this specific week will be more than made up for in the following weeks.
- ugh333, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@NX910a, i tend to disagree. the changes are a lot more subtle than previous releases, but they are definitely major in terms of usability. Remember that this is the next "long term support" release since it's a 7 release. Edgy does not have long term support. Dapper (in the 6 release) is the last long term support release. That may have played a big part in why the team didn't go with Beryl integration in this release. The primary feature (IMHO) is the vastly improved wireless support. No more difficult WPA configs or driver installs (for most of us). In Edgy, I had a bear of a time getting WPA working, but with Feisty, it just works.
See any of the other many digged articles about the other key benefits of this OS. The new weak spot (IMO) is display drivers for multiple displays (a big issue for us laptop users). Windows gives a very easy way to do desktop spanning, switching between display configurations. Ubuntu falls very short of that experience. I'm planning on attending one of the chats to see what the team has in mind to address that weakness. - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3as far as i am concerned Ubuntu just ruined their distro with that damn UUID!
fsck ubuntu they suck now! - listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Keeping with the theme for today...
I blame video games. - MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3oh boy, i'm so excited, yay!
- NX910a, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3I am extremely disappointed with 7.04. The /only/ thing that has improved in the release is (a) some the artwork and (b) installing the drivers are marginally easier. Otherwise, I am much, much less then impressed. I may as well use Edgy.
