Ubuntu Intrepid Alpha 1 released

ubuntu.com — Intrepid Ibex Alpha 1 was released today, which will in time become Ubuntu 8.10. Alpha 1 is the first in a series of milestone CD images that will be released throughout the Intrepid development cycle. The Alpha images are known to be reasonably free of showstopper CD build or installer bugs, while representing a very recent snapshot of Intrepid.

  • daradib, on 06/28/2008, -0/+9Pre-releases of Intrepid are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting, and fixing bugs.

  • courtjester555, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1They should encourage regular users to test it out, too. Just virtualize 8.10 with something like VirtualBox. Safe and easy.

    In Ubuntu, VirtualBox OSE (Open Source Edition) is available from the repositories. You can find it in Add/Remove, but I think "sudo apt-get install virtualbox" should do the trick.

    VirtualBox OSE is no longer available for Windows I believe, but the version from Sun is.
