I didn't know Christimas was supposed to be on April, 24th this year. - priegog, on 04/24/2008, -0/+66To all of you ubunteros out there, I'd suggest this upgrade to be a chance for all of you who have not setup a separate /home partition to do so; it'll make future updates that much cleaner and easier.
- ssam, on 04/24/2008, -0/+63if you download from a third party remember to check the md5sums

- jordn, on 04/24/2008, -3/+51apt-get party!
- skaldicpoet9, on 04/24/2008, -3/+50Hell, I don't even know if I am going to install this but I'll definitely download and seed it so things go faster for those who do :)
- 51684, on 04/24/2008, -0/+45Wow! Firefox 3 Beta 5 is ridiculously faster than FF 2. Why didn't I update earlier???
- TsuruchiBrian, on 04/24/2008, -5/+46WOOHOO Hairy Hardon is going to be the best Ubuntu yet
- 51684, on 04/24/2008, -0/+38I get my maximum line speed on the torrents. :)

http://www.releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/hardy/ - yule, on 04/24/2008, -3/+38Loving the new features, although I'll use Xubuntu instead - even if my machine can handle more, I like the speed improvement (and no lack in functionality)
- newwatch51, on 04/24/2008, -1/+35It is a big deal
- 4DFX, on 04/24/2008, -0/+33The release is actually slowing down the Internet :D

- megamod, on 04/24/2008, -2/+28tooooooo many "NOM"'s!!!
- ssam, on 04/24/2008, -0/+26the installer can do a preserve home install now. it removes all the system folders, but leaves home.
- DomZy, on 04/24/2008, -0/+25And in case people don't know, you check the md5sum like this in a terminal:
md5sum ubuntu-8.04-desktop-i386.iso - insanebrain, on 04/24/2008, -1/+25Didn't you get the memo ?
- mckooiker, on 04/24/2008, -2/+26Though I will not install it before monday, I started the torrent download (which will stay there for all the weekend).......
- Fafnir43, on 04/24/2008, -3/+27Irony. You mean irony. Ironing is terribly, terribly bitter and should be avoided at all costs.
- Sil3ncer7, on 04/24/2008, -0/+22I feel bad for their servers.. Poor Things....
Congrats to all the devs... - theculchie1, on 04/24/2008, -0/+22Its a good day for people who prefer not to pay for things
- Durrok, on 04/24/2008, -0/+21That and if my ISP calls to bitch I can tell them to packet sniff my torrent activity all they want... well... after I stop my "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" torrent
- dcherryholmes, on 04/24/2008, -0/+20It does lack a little functionality. I know how to do it, but just adding a quick launch icon to your toolbar is a nightmare. Can't believe they haven't made that as easy as Gnome aka right click "add launcher to panel." I also tend to use the ssh connectivity of Nautilus quite a bit, and that is missing in Thunar. There are a few other things that aren't as nice. Personally, I used Fluxbox happily for years and am fine with hacking up text files, but I don't think it's quite accurate to say it is feature-for-feature with the heavier desktops.
- cannarymburns, on 04/24/2008, -2/+22l2 slang. "guys" is a gender-agnostic term in the context he used it...
- skyhook19, on 04/24/2008, -2/+22I don't think digg traffic is slowing down the ubuntu release servers, just normal traffic for day of realease
- estvir, on 04/24/2008, -2/+22Uh, time to decide whether to upgrade my RC install or format and install from a fresh ISO.
Hmm, fresh install sounds good. - bob12321, on 04/24/2008, -1/+20you don't need to be root to party.

We get completely cut off if we torrent, which for my course is basically academic death - sucks... :-( The HTTP download's going pretty fast though.

Except it holds a whole lot more, so when upgrading Ubuntu you can wipe your / (root partition) and just install Linux into it, your /home partition is safe and you can login straight away and start using it like nothing happened, except for the cool new version you're running. In windows the default is to lump all stuff onto the one partition so you have to back up your documents and music etc. when reinstalling or upgrading, which is tedious as fcuk.
