- weizbox, on 04/25/2008, -1/+21you could have handled that a ton better...
- notque, on 04/25/2008, -4/+16An excellently written technical article on Hardy Heron. I feel like I understand it as if I had installed it myself, my usual process for understanding a new operating system. (I'm still going to install it soon)
Zaibatsu is quick though man. I was trying to submit this myself. I don't usually submit tech articles because of the lack of value they give me, but this really helped. Thanks. - inactive, on 04/25/2008, -1/+7well im almost positive your an 8 year old that cares a lot about his silly little digg stories. if he just copied people then why wouldn't the people that he copies be popular? think about with your juice box and animal crackers.
- mattousai, on 04/25/2008, -12/+18zaibatsu is a douchbag that ignores the duplicate story filter so he can be popular
- trogdoor, on 04/25/2008, -1/+5I buried you for all your wining about being buried, you're not some sort of rebel for saying something positive about Apple or Microsoft, people do it all the time without being buried, get over it.
- BigglesPiP, on 04/25/2008, -2/+6What is it with Digg and Ubuntu?
- MadceltUK, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4I installed it using WUBI last night and it was a breeze. If I can get the wife to use it for a while and get used to it, I may even be able to ditch Windows...
- warbird, on 04/25/2008, -1/+5Yay, another article which just sums up the official "whats new" page, and adds some pictures. Very exciting! not. Want to read something more insightful? Take a look at this article:
http://www.itwire.com/content/view/17845/1090/1/0/ - inactive, on 04/25/2008, -2/+6then why does he get on the front page so much if he doesnt matter?
- fatas, on 04/25/2008, -0/+3In Hardy, the Trash doesn't work on NTFS & FAT32 partitions. But it does work on USB drives.
- scyon, on 04/25/2008, -0/+3If you want stable software, use software that has been feature frozen for a year or two and only patched for security updates. New software will always have bugs. If you like debian based distros such as ubuntu, debian might be your cup of tea.
- Dylson, on 04/25/2008, -0/+3Hairy Hardon? Um....why don't you take a seat over there....
- Avian00, on 04/25/2008, -1/+3I suggest opening a terminal and typing:
sudo apt-get install blubuntu-look
I think you'll be happy with the results. - inactive, on 04/25/2008, -1/+3dude zaibatsu, a lot of people are player hating on you... I HAVE FAITH IN YOU!!!! but seriously weak, i got your back
- DNABeast, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2What the hell is wrong with you people.
It's about the content, man!! - beforeseven, on 04/25/2008, -2/+4It's a new version of a popular operating system. I'd call that newsworthy.
- BigglesPiP, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1There more polular distros than that dumbed down crap, we never see any of these?
- Aitese, on 04/25/2008, -1/+2xscreensaver does not come installed as default, you can't blame the developers for an error in a package everyone has been screaming at them to include that they chose not to...see now, maybe this is why up till now they haven't included it!
- Tanath, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Not really. I've found it much more efficient and stable. Everything is faster, a number of issues have been fixed, graphics are easier to configure, the look is easy to change and customize, etc. It's a definite improvement.
- weizbox, on 04/25/2008, -6/+7Why would they make the final release if they still had critical errors?
Yet another reason why I don't like these time based release cycles... it seems like they have to force stuff out based on time instead of based on if it works or not. They have known about this critical bug for a while now too.. but it's not like it popped up after the release.
Watch out for the screensaver nVidia users...

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug - Lazdude, on 04/25/2008, -1/+2Ubuntu is really catching on, and I like how the user friendliness encourages Windows users to switch.
- Aitese, on 04/25/2008, -1/+2My desktop: http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc278/bosambo/
It's not that hard to have your desktop look any way you want...you also make a mistake of mixing up the THEME or skin on your windows with the GUI...which is the windows and the buttons and how they allow you to get things done on your system.
This is a picture if someone running Ubuntu:

A discussion and some workarounds for the problem. - h4ppydotcom, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1I have not yet installed Ubuntu, but want to use it to replace Vista on my Vaio TZ21. However, the laptop bug mentioned in the itwire article has scared me. Is it really that big a problem? And does anyone know where I can find more info about it before installing Ubuntu?
- h4ppydotcom, on 04/25/2008, -1/+2Direct link to get Ubuntu via Bittorrent (took me a while to find it on the Ubuntu site):
http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04/ubuntu-8.04-deskto ... - SnowCrashv5, on 04/25/2008, -2/+3I wouldn't. I'd call it a bunch of people who don't know crap about linux being treated like babies to move away from windows ***** all over themselves
- philmck, on 04/25/2008, -0/+0I installed it using wubi last night, in less than 30 minutes and without any problems, which is a big improvement over my previous attempts with earlier Ubuntu versions and other distros. I can edit office documents and spreadsheets, access email etc. without problems. The new clock is great. Some of the documentation links were broken or hard to find but I got there in the end.
BUT I still won't be using it as my main OS because it still won't recognise my bog standard, two year old printer or scanner (or TV card, webcam or mobile phone, but I can live without those). Nor will it read DVDs, even after following the instructions to install "multiverse" codecs. If I can't get anything into or out of the PC it's not much use.
For sure, when I eventually replace all my peripherals I will look for "Linux compatible" on the box but until then I'm just observing the situation with interest. - kday, on 04/25/2008, -3/+3Marked as ugly.
- DocHoliday22, on 04/25/2008, -2/+2It's the same dull Ubuntu we've been getting for a long time... Looks like I'll be spending the next 2 hours improving the visual appearance.
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -9/+7yay for hairy hardon
- PoopOnPaul, on 04/25/2008, -6/+3Not to be hating on Ubuntu...I support it and all, and I downloaded it with the intention of checking it out (out of curiosity, no plans to really use it)...but damn, every time I see pictures of it, I'm reminded of just how visually ugly it is. I realize that's not all that's important and everything, but seriously...it looks way too 90's. For all the hate MS gets, at least their OSs look better than that. Hell, XP came out in 2001 and looked way better.
Then again, maybe I'm just spoiled cuz OS X has such a good UI (although I'll probably get buried for saying it, and people will accuse me of only using a Mac cuz it's pretty).
I feel like if I had a Windows machine I'd definitely give this more of a try, but from OS X it just feels like a step down to me.
I say this fully willing to accept that I'll get buried because a) I said something negative about Linux, and b) I said something positive about Apple.
Add on c) I said something positive about MS, and I'm sure to be buried.
All I'm saying is Ubuntu devs, please give some major attention to a new UI for a future release. - FizzanoMatrix, on 04/25/2008, -5/+1A more streamlined BIOS route system would have been preferrable over what seems to be a lack of any real registry emulation, but that's just me.
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -7/+2I say Bring It, thanks for the support.
I say don't hate the player, hate the game.
I have the BBQ, just enjoyin' the tasty food.
Snap - inactive, on 04/25/2008, -15/+10Hey luzer boy, I just got the article from the author himself and posted it for him. He wrote it, just finished it and then I posted it. If you don't believe me, them e-mail him.
Maybe you should check before you start whining like a little biatch.
go crawl back to your small corner of the interwebs and STFU. - Remmy, on 04/25/2008, -8/+2You sir, are a douche bag and your "submissions" are oft duplicates. Welcome to the new digg where you no longer matter.
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -8/+0Loading.... Loading.... Error Reboot Microsoft-FTW Ubuntu-Failsssssssssssssssss PS: we rule the majority of the marketshare.

I'm sooo happy i don't use Micro$oft any more & i'm like totally happy mark shuttleworth invented loonix for all of us. It's a more good operating system.
