- weizbox, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5I wonder how many people will digg this for the title... and how many will actually digg this after reading the article...
Very poor article... and the title is worse. A 'Giant leap'? really? If it was such a giant leap.. you would think that the author would tell us about this leap.... but he fails to. He mentions the application updates in Gnome, Firefox, etc... none of which are really huge, but still great changes/fixes.Sadly after mentioning the updates, he goes on to talk about 'a clock applet displaying weather and wind in your precise location' ooooo, fancy.... now that's a major improvement ;)
If your going to write an article.. or even submit one on digg... just make sure it has substance... not some generic 'it's good' article. - DeviateSeptum, on 04/19/2008, -0/+3Out of reflex I hit "digg" rather than "bury"... This is not a good article. There's very little information in it. The only thing of value to me was knowing that you had a smooth upgrade. But take for instance the statement, "The system became so coherent in its appearance and functionalities;"..... that's all you say about this... a good article would back this up with examples and even pictures to prove it.... almost every sentence in your article (it's more of a general comment) is more of the same... claims that are unsupported. I know they are probably true but "show me the money".
- Cryoniq, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Buried.. Ubuntu is not even my 10th choice of a user friendly and working distro. Then again, I am spoiled with such a distro that does work out of the box, user friendly, and so on.. PCLinuxOS..
But I seriously cannot understand why people go Ubuntu.. it is ok.. but there are better out there. Seriously. - weizbox, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1I can understand why a lot of people due... one big reason is popularity/marketing(iPod is a good example of this). The distro itself is competitive with a lot of the other major distros out there... but nothing too crazy different that would make it a clear-cut winner for the majority of Linux users.
One thing I seriously dislike about Ubuntu is the way they manage they're repositories. I don't like the idea of people paying Ubuntu/Canonical to get a 'Preferred listing in Ubuntu Software Repository', as stated in they're 'Software Programme'.
