- Skod, on 10/11/2007, -2/+67You'd be surprised the amount of worth people give a professionally produced cd over one you burnt.
- RushinG, on 10/11/2007, -1/+44this is so awsome. first its FREE operating system second they deliver FREE. BEAT that microsoft.
ps just ordered mine ^_^ - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+50Or you could burn copies yourself instead of forcing Canonical to produce CDs for you.
- Argus2m, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41Here's the links to the whole family:

Why are you requesting these Cds?
"We are opening a new Internet Cafe here in Cyprus in the heart of the only divided capital in Europe - Nicosia, where we will exclusively feature FOSS, and we would like to promote Ubuntu to the patrons. If quantity is not possible, perhaps a 25/25 would suffice. Thank you Ubuntu!" - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27Does I have to use a specific Burt? If so... should I go with Burt Reynolds, Burt Lancaster, or Burt Bacharach?
- cg0def, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27yeah really man that's the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. If you are not going to use the CDs don't order them.
- LingNoi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27I don't know why you were digged down. Sounds like a reasonable question to me. People are much more likely to put a professionally produced CD in their drive then some crap produced off the street.
- blackmagician, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25kind of a bummer that you can't get more than 2 now. I gave away all of my feisty copies. People take it much more seriously when there's actual packaging as opposed to a burnt memorex with sharpie on it.
- MasteRR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23I think the idea is to give the CDs away to customers.
- schestowitz, on 10/11/2007, -7/+29The page doesn't say anything about this, but do they no longer send packs of 5/10 CDs? This was a handy way of spreading Linux to colleagues, friends, and family.
- PricklySponge, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21not cool
- bdmbdm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20While this is true.
If his users like what they see, he could give them a copy. :) - MrDo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Don't feed the trolls.
- sirdaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Why? If it fits on a normal CD, and older machines may not have DVD drives, then it makes sense to stick with a CD.
- GeyserShitdick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Thank you for giving me the pleasure of burying you twice.
- nielsbjerg, on 07/06/2009, -1/+16I just ordered none, because I have DSL at home! I guess my message to you is, that neither should you! Let these Cd's go to people in India or other places where you cant buy Internet for their current wages. If you want to ship a Cd to a friend or your mother, then download and burn! Or better DL trough p2p and keep on sharing it so the rest of us are able to DL. it faster.
- redawgts, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Both are free.
- aussieNickuss, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15You ordered a disc....(that costs money to manufacture).....just so you can let them that you want one....but you are downloading it anyway? The point?
- blynder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14You know, this costs somebody money... if you truly support Linux, buy a CD or just download it.
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12They offer the 5/10 packs if you have registered and made contributions to Ubuntu, you can also make special requests for any number of CD's.
- Coldkill, on 10/15/2007, -0/+12Go back to your bridge, troll
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12 Grow Up.
- kazamx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13you use a burt one and give the 2 away to friends :-)

«Unfortunately, unlike the other Ubuntu derivatives, Xubuntu does not yet have free cds available for shipping due to lack of funding.» - MasteRR, on 10/15/2007, -0/+11Don't blame Linux for obscure unsupported hardware. I'de like to see a Windows install work without vendor support.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -0/+111 Ubuntu PC Edition
1 Kubuntu PC Edition
1 Ubuntu 64-bit Edition
1 Kubuntu 64-bit Edition
I could have just d/led them, but Comquack may cut my interwebs if I do that. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Oops. I initially wrote "does it have to be" then forgot to change the first word when I rewrote it. Then, I got an "unknown fatal error" when I tried to correct that mistake. I also got five "your session has expired" errors when trying to post this message. Thanks, digg.
- MBHoy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11"Unfortunately, unlike the other Ubuntu derivatives, Xubuntu does not yet have free cds available for shipping due to lack of funding."
Interesting, I would've thought Xubuntu shared funding with Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Edubuntu. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I beg of everyone to please not abuse this, if you can download and burn your own cd please do so. I know of some people that were just ordering a bunch of cds as a joke. Abusing this will hurt people that don't have access to a cd burner , or broadband to download the iso.
- jamie191817, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14you realise you can install ubuntu on all those computers with just one cd? wouldnt it be better for you to perhaps order 6 cds, and then use those same 6 cds again, untill all computers have ubuntu on?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I'm ordering one so I can have a backup CD in some nice packaging, and to also introduce/lend it out to others.
- digrboi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8well back here in india,we get a 2 mbps connection for the equivalent of 10 dollars a month.
- Argus2m, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8If you want to order more and share go to https://shipit.ubuntu.com/specialrequest
- yunus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8YOU, are the reason that more companies dont do this. You waste, it doesnt matter if you like Ubuntu or not. Dont waste their money, there not in this to make money like most businesses, they are in this to improve whats out there. If you dont like it, then leave them alone and let them be. Why be a dick? All you do is hurt everyone. If your believe that Microsoft is superior you must also realize that without others pushing the boundaries microsoft has no incentive to improve their product. Competition makes life better for us all.
- DAC1138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Yipee! I just ordered 2,500!!! hot diggity dawg!!!
I don't need 2,500, but they're free. right?
/sarcasm
I'm just tired of seeing these thrown in dumpsters because people order more than they need. (yes, i've seen these in dumpsters in the downtown Denver, CO area. Sad) - greenmountain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I'm holding out for Hungry Hippo.
- louiedog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I have an old laptop that often has issues with burned CDs. It doesn't seem to matter what speed I burn them at, which drive I use, or what brand I buy. However, these will work just fine.
- init100, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7@SourceClosed
"Users on UbuntuForums.org inform me this is very common and you need to invest a week or two tweaking your setup before your computer will be ready for Linux."
That sounds like BS from a Windows-loving troll. Care to post a link to show that you aren't one? - hexydes, on 10/18/2007, -1/+8Let's check your list:
1. I got wireless working in less than two minutes on my obscure wireless card.
2. Why would I use Windows Media Player when I have Totem?
3. My Canon S3 was recognized when it was plugged into my computer.
4. Why in GOD'S name would you buy a Zune?! Talk about companies desperately grabbing for marketshare...
5. Again, why would you even want to use Internet Explorer 7 when you have Firefox. In fact, I would say this is better for Ubuntu, because the first thing I have to do on a new Windows install is download Firefox, install it, run it, and set it to the default browser. In Ubuntu, it is already there and defaulted.
Your list is flawed, much like your logic. - redawgts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You can make a "special request" for more discs. It'll take longer to process the request though.
- yunus, on 10/15/2007, -0/+7So if Microsoft offered free CD's you would say the same thing?
- chsbrgr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Gutsy has some changes listed for your hardware here: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/MacBookPro/SantaRosa
Whether it works 'out of the box' or not ... is anyone's guess. - FreezerB, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You can buy the DVDs.
The CDs are shipped for free. - Coldkill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6That's cause you're an idiot.
- Jabjabs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6These discs are useful, were I work there is a tendency for the installation discs to go missing since they are on CDR's and nobody cares for them due to the appearance that they are useless and cheap. Once we got in some professional looking discs or made some up our selves all of a sudden it stopped happening and these discs did the job for our Ubuntu installations. It was a real pain since we really needed them for a good cause.
If you are wondering I restore old PC donated to us and give them away for free to those who need them after they have been cleaned up, checked over and have been Ubuntu'ed. :D Let's just say that so far there have been no complaints about the Ubuntu machines we have been turning out, P3's most of them but that's all you need really. ;) - brewno2k, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Recent Apple switcher here... I'd like to know if this version will work fine on the new Santa Rosa MacBook Pros? (Honest question, please don't dugg me down. I wanna try it out, but if it doesn't work, I can wait for other versions whenever they have all drivers ready for it.)
- steffl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5They won't. Beta versions are never shipped. And if, it wouldl upgrade itself anyway. ;-)
- gattone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I will download and burn my copy but I also asked for 2 CDs to give away to a couple of friends. I noticed too that a packaged disk has more success than a home-written one :)
- nonsapiens, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5So that people without massive amounts of cheap bandwidth (i.e. me, living in South Africa with the most expensive internet in the world) can get it without reaching our ridiculous 1GB cap.
