- aNoble, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31I've gotta say video configuration, firefox plugins/extensions via apt and better printer configuration (wizards are for windows, IMHO) are three very welcome additions. I'm definitely looking forward to Gusty.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25Looking nice..a GUI for X is awesome.
- pcmacman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I suggest waiting for the release if you are not willing to put up with broken packages. Please don't decide to install Tribe 5 as your first foray into Linux, it only causes headaches for everyone.
- xtlosx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14when they get the X configuration in there, for dual monitors, and tv-out stuff, that will simplify a lot....
I know some of the developers at work had a hell of a time dual screening.... Anything to make that stuff easier and bridge the gap between windows and linux! Go ubuntu! - Stonekeeper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13you're doing something very wrong.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12This is starting to look like a real consumer-oriented operating system. Major kudos!
- lufthanza, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8From the site
"Note: This is still an alpha release. Do not install it on production machines. The final stable version will be released in October 2007."
Seems to me they deserve to be frustrated if they can't read. - weizbox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8'when they get the X configuration in there, for dual monitors, and tv-out stuff, that will simplify a lot.'
If you have an nvidia card right now, you should be able to use the nvidia binary drivers along with nvidia-settings to get tv-out and dual monitors from the config gui that it comes with. It's really easy to setup.... just not sure how things are on the ATI side tho.
Here is some more info on getting dual screens up and running with Ubuntu if you were having trouble:

Go Xorg and nVidia! :P - sirhomer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8It should be released in a matter of hours.
- renegadeafk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Sweet gutsy looks like it'll kick some ass, as does opensuse 10.3.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Breathe...........ok, one more time now, breathe.................ok. Now that you're calm, we understand that alphas can be notoriously unstable, but I personally keep a stable copy of OpenSUSE along with Gutsy alphas to play around with. We know this isn't a final release.
- aetherane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The wiki for the release is now up so I assumed that the iso was uploaded as well. Apparently it isn't up yet (sorry), but it will be available later today according to the release schedule.

Here's a quick tip: Open Firefox, go to Youtube.com, click on Firefox's "install missing plugin" dialog, follow the prompts to install flash, watch Youtube.
- Stonekeeper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That printer setup looks AWESOME.
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5No, it is not possible ( OK, anything is possible but downgrading a Debian derivative distro is expressly not supported and *will* break dpkg, if you have to ask then you can't do it )
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Well, it's up now..
- pcmacman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Tribe 5 is just a 'moment in time' snapshot of the current Gutsy testing. So if you had installed Tribe 4 and did an update/dist-upgrade(full upgrade) today you're effectively running Tribe 5.
This also applies to when the Final CDs come out. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Are you sure it is Ubuntu you are running? If so, then are you sure it is Firefox you are running?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4File a bug report with Ubuntu... (not here)
- stmiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"duel monitor setup"
Who won? - Megatog615, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Please leave the asshattery to Windows users.
- mossblaser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dugg for the "and this coming from a Gentoo user". :D
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I used to be a SuSE user, until I realized that by using a Debian based distro, I would not have to put up with SuSE's .rpm dependency hell, then I made the switch. YaST is sweet, but still does not fix this problem. Life is MUCH smoother now. Go Ubuntu (Debian based distro)
- motang, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The new features is Firefox is sweet addition.
- weizbox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3or just get whatever is current: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/
- MeneerR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Go to add/remove in your programs-menu and search for flash. Select. Done. It now works in all browsers. What was the ***** problem again?
- SniperSlap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This is all awesome.
- sfeldi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I got a 404 to ...but looking at parent folder http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/ , it seems it is so hot and fresh the ISOs have not yet been uploaded for distro at this time, or I am just lame.. :)
- weizbox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I def hope opensuse gets better... i can't stand 10.2's nonsense.... it's so hard to get anything done with that distro... and this coming from a Gentoo user. =/
- seanharrop, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5doh! Just downloaded and burned Tribe 4!
- xtlosx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3works fine for me........
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sorry, but I think that is funny! Dugg up.
- polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'd like to see some flash support for Konqueror and maybe an easier ad blocking interface. Ohh and can we make YaST not take forever. I used 9.3, then went to Ubuntu, and now back to 10.2. I kind of miss sudo apt-get InHerPanties. Now, I have to open YaST...wait....open installation sources.....wait.....add source....wait.......open Software management.....waaaaaaaaiiiiit........search InHerPanties...........wait.......Next.....wait....................notice the pattern....... I do digg the kicker panel, though.
- mossblaser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeh - I am probably going to go SuSE again (having been ubuntu for about a year now) because its the only good KDE distro I have got along with (I don't know if its just me but Kubuntu sucks massively - missing all the features that made me use ubuntu). I'll sure miss apt but now that I have established what apps I like and what I don't I shouldn't need it all that often. Shame I just don't get along with fedora - I don't know what it is but I just don't like it. (possibly to do with slow boot and paths not being setup...)
- Darkhacker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's not *that* unstable. Hell, I've read posts on UbuntuForums from people who actually do use it as their primary OS. Granted they aren't working in a nuclear power plant and having their machines run the core reactor, so it isn't a meltdown when breakage occurs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I agree... it takes forever, but it is nice to have... especially for setting up a server.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Install it if you want to assist in testing for bugs and reporting them to the developers. Bug testing is very important and helps to keep Ubuntu running smoothly on most hardware when the final version is released! (including yours)
- amoore260, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's a beta release!!!! Get a clue!!!!
- brharri1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I have flash on 64bit ubuntu...it was easy.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Radio Shack? /Overpriced
- stmiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://www.virtualbox.org/
- EclipseAgent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I am pretty excited about openSUSE 10.3. On my 10.2 box I had to remove ZMD and in 10.3 they do that for you :o) .. Ubuntu does have an advantage with APT.. but hopefully Novell will get their packaging up to speed shortly.
- DigitalWarrior, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It is fixed you can get Tribe 5 here http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/tribe-5/gutsy-desktop-i386.iso
- trogdoor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This will be a unified tool for all cards / drivers and will enable adding new monitors and resolutions without restarting X ( this is mostly an upsteam Xorg feature, but Nvidia and ATI's configuration GUIs don't take advantage of it since they simply edit your xorg.conf )
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's nice because those of us who actually use this will want to try the new alpha product and test it so we can verify it works error free with our hardware before it is released, so if not, we can submit a bug report right away.
- skrowl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Still no fix for rt2500 users that have been hosed since early alphas of Feisty :(
Pretty big outstanding bug that looks like it's going to span two entire versions
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/78037 - etx313, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So is their an easy way to update my Tribe 4 install to 5? Or do i need to reinstall? Because that would suck.
- oobuntu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i'm not trolling - what's missing from KUbuntu in your opinion?
- srg13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Feisty is rock solid on both the machines I have it on. Maybe you'd like to find out what's causing it and file a bug report?
