- maruchan, on 08/04/2008, -1/+7OK, so no images allowed...like the commercial illustrations I've made with Ubuntu, even if I relicense them under CC-BY-SA. And no documents allowed, so that means no OpenOffice templates, which are sorely needed. Especially creative ones.
But video is OK....as long as it's under 3MB. Whaa.....? Audio too...submissions can only be 1MB. Again: Huh?
This is an excellent way to start off Free Culture Sharing Time with a whimper. Also, I wonder if the organizers really understand compression? Seriously, video under 3MB is like the video clips you'd get back in the '90s on "Multimedia" CD-ROM titles. "Look ma, I downloaded Ubuntu and it came with a bunch of low-res videos and some 96 Kbps song about Linux." :-)
I don't mean to sound negative, and I love the distro, but if there had been a 3MB limit on Launchpad projects when it first started, it wouldn't have gone anywhere...so please show some more respect to free content creators. We may not code, but we can still make you look darn good. - ptFoe, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5seems lame they will end up pulling it like the Deviant Art theme competition
- luisbg, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3wedderburn: when have artists have been pushed away from ubuntustudio? studio always welcomes creativity and artwork.
- Vinvin, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2The "Experience Ubuntu" movie in example-content is just 3.4 MB and is 1:36m in length. For demo content, that certainly is long enough.
This isn't about not showing respect, it's about being practical - this art isn't meant to show off the art, but to show off Ubuntu, which can be done in one minute without taking up too much space on the CD. - wedderburn, on 08/05/2008, -2/+2cause ubuntu is where all the art is happening, **rubs eyes from horrid mix of orange icons and brown desktop**... i mean really the orange should be used as a special colour to donate importance to a part of the UI or icon, not smeared over ever single icon and everthing highlighted.
not to mention the some of the people choosing the stuff are some of the ones that pushed away the artists from ubuntustudio. - inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+0they never did that competition afaik
- DreadKnight, on 08/05/2008, -3/+1...
