- atdigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20I like how you turns Microsoft FUD in the advantage of Linux "if Linux people are expensive it means that it pays to learn Linux"
- learn4fun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Great interview. Interesting to read what applications Mark Shuttleworth likes and doesn't like. I love Ubuntu.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Every day I thank all those involved in bringing OSS to the masses as I watch my little sever crank away without complaint. These folk are truly making a significant contribution to a better world.
- allywilson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Shuttleworth the new face of Linux? Starting to look that way, huh? Ah, well, all good anyways :-p
Right tool for the right job - cannot agree more with Mark or Sidzilla. Time and time again I think of a way to do something simple and easily done with Linux - only for, say, my boss to turn around and say 'Why? Lets not over-complicate this by using X, Y and Z' the reason being they've been unfamiliar with Linux. Drives me up the wall, they're not daft, but they're unwilling to bend to new ideas. Old boss: Win fan boy, new boss mac fan boy. Me? All 3 if you want to know (and throw in the odd unix distro). - madskjaer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Interesting interview. I strongly agree with him on most of the questions.
Btw. I love the Ubuntu release names, much more creative than Microsoft's or even Apple's - livevil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What have you been smoking?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Using the right tool for the right job is something that I have advocated for a while now. I tend to say stupid things when I am posting to fanboys of any denomination just to tick them off. Fanboys do more to turn people off than anything, and actually harm the causes they champion. Mr. Shuttleworth seems to be exactly the type of person we need to be advocating Linux in general, and Ubuntu in particular. I know it is easy to get emotional about why Windows / Apple / Linux is good or bad, but I liken it getting upset about what kind of wrench my mechanic used to fix my car. Kudos to Mark Shuttleworth for being a passionate advocate without being a fanboy!
- SimonGray, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Whatever you say, Randy Randall.
- LondonDude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A good interview. Nice to know where he sees Linux going in the future
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2amen to that. i'm happy to support open source projects with the money I would have been spending on proprietary software.
- mok000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Mark Shuttleworth presents himself as a very sympathetic fellow. Polite, modest, and highly competent. Great interview!
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1The next Digg update should include an age matching application that blocks me from seeing the frothy, steamy piles of gut bomb 7-year-old kids like Randall spew ad infinitum.
- motang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That is when the article is at LifeHacker's front page, it's a intro to the article, and then you click on the link to read rest of the interview.
- bcecka, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Any publicity is good for Linux IMO. If Mark can get the name out in the mainstream and encourage more users to take the step, good for him. Ubuntu is a solid OS and worthy of the praise that it receives.
- RicktheBrick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2We need an OS for the home that will make the computer an essential tool for everyday living. The computer should know if there is flow(gas, water, electricity) and the reason of that flow anywhere in the house. The computer should know if there is anyone in the house and why they are present. There is a huge list of things the computer could be doing but has made very little progress lately. I just wish some one would make a computer that would be the main device for safety and security and energy conservation in the house.
- sirhomer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Crack?
- diggitizer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Exactly, Supply and demand. It isn't a turn around. Java developers get good wages. Demand high.
Some obscure language experts also get good wages, with lower demand, and lower supply.
Linux in the high demand, rising supply category - davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Dude Snap-On wrenches are the best, bar none. Don't even get me started on those lesser wrenches!
- sirhomer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It'll happen. The market has stagnated for the past 20 years, but I promise you pretty soon computers will realize their full capability, and we as a society will move onto greater things.
- oobuntu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1in other words, diametrically opposite to Ballmer
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Yeah, stop being such a Sour Squirrel
- motang, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1"Lifehacker: It seems that pre-installed Linux computers are gaining momentum. Are there plans for partnering with other major corporations?
Mark Shuttleworth: Of course. There are discussions underway which I can't go into because they're not ready to be announced."
Please let be HP! - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1shuttleworth just repeats what others have said before. Like ubuntu, no originality.
- allywilson, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Shuttleworth the new face of Linux? Starting to look that way, huh? Ah, well, all good anyways :-p

- RandaII, on 10/10/2007, -13/+4No they are the worst release names ever. Feisty Fawn? come the ***** on. sounds like a distro for gay people, wait sorry it is.
- RandaII, on 10/10/2007, -12/+1Clearly not the same stuff you have.
- RandaII, on 10/10/2007, -24/+2Mark Shuttleworth needs to stfu hes useless to the Linux community like Eric S. Raymond is. We need real people for linux to represent linux not the crack heads .

What is Digg?
