- Hervard, on 07/16/2008, -12/+79apt-got milk?
- dsn0wman, on 07/15/2008, -2/+62I believe it you mistype an apt command the cow will readily admit that he does not have super cow powers.
- imneat, on 07/16/2008, -3/+64greatest bug report of all time
- 3242130193, on 07/16/2008, -12/+69Sounds like Gentoo is the superior distro. Joder.
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -3/+52It's better than a dancing paperclip, for sure.
- Sairgem, on 07/16/2008, -3/+49How could this go unnoticed for so long?!
- beowabbit, on 07/16/2008, -0/+36With bugs like this, Linux will never be ready for the pasture.
- arjie, on 07/16/2008, -1/+30That, my friends, is the source code to the cow. Put the parts together to compile.

::rolls eyes:: - inactive, on 07/16/2008, -2/+25... I'm not your friend
therefore, I have not seen.
thought it was funny - CrucifiedEgo, on 07/16/2008, -1/+18Actually, yes. I posted this for the sole purpose of kidding you, Ademan. Now that you've found out my plan, Everyone should undigg this article. Bury it even. Because in no way would I want anyone else that hasn't seen it (me) before to get a light chuckle out of something that's supposed to be serious. That would be terrible.
- shortyjacobs, on 07/16/2008, -0/+16jesus, it's like something from The Cell.
- tdreyer1, on 07/16/2008, -5/+20Have you mooed today?
- nerdzero, on 07/16/2008, -9/+23Ha! Awesome easter egg! I never knew you could do this!
- Murdats, on 07/16/2008, -0/+14"this is crap i send my friends when I'm bored"
and that is exactly what digg is for, just on a larger scale, but not just crap, cool ***** and wierd stuff aswell. - allatti2d, on 07/16/2008, -3/+16Wow. You Linux people really are an interesting bunch.
I mean that in the nicest way, of course. My boy is one, so I should know. - diadem2, on 07/16/2008, -2/+14manbearcow
- TwoKill, on 07/16/2008, -2/+13That was great because I didn't have to know anything about Ubuntu to enjoy it. : )

Is that what he meant? - phatboye, on 07/16/2008, -7/+15More proof that Gentoo rules.
(Not that Ubuntu isn't good, but Gentoo amazing). - Matt2k, on 07/16/2008, -4/+12Now now, this bug is just as important as a remote root escalation exploit

ok.. the cow gets munted up when i try post it.. but try apt-get cowsay.. or click here if you dont have linux http://linuxgazette.net/issue67/orr.html - jpaolini, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9Gentoo is awesome for the experienced user - rock solid, I really like it as well.
But you can't even compare it to the ease of Ubuntu for the average Linux user. - inactive, on 07/16/2008, -0/+8Dali cow.
- hungryduck, on 07/16/2008, -0/+8I find it awesome that until today every time you saw FTW you thought they were spelling WTF backwards.
- dubbaj, on 07/16/2008, -0/+8Ahh of course...half man, half bear, half cow.
- AmaDaden, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7Nice idea but it's not gonna work. 'apt-get install moo' would be how you install it and it would work just fine. moo is really a hidden command for apt-get not a package that you are trying to get. The old UNIX guys would start bitching if this Easter egg had a chance to get in the way of any real package.
- alperea, on 07/16/2008, -0/+7Did your cow get hit by a truck?
- aasukisuki, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6FTW = For The Win
Tardbaby. - silfiriel, on 07/16/2008, -2/+7it's true ubuntu's cow looks more like satan...
- agentlame, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5OR so it would have you think.
[neil@lx-dt:~]$ aptitude moo
There are no Easter Eggs in this program.
[neil@lx-dt:~]$ aptitude -v moo
There really are no Easter Eggs in this program.
[neil@lx-dt:~]$ aptitude -v -v moo
Didn't I already tell you that there are no Easter Eggs in this program?
[neil@lx-dt:~]$ aptitude -v -v -v moo
Stop it!
[neil@lx-dt:~]$ aptitude -v -v -v -v moo
Okay, okay, if I give you an Easter Egg, will you go away?
[neil@lx-dt:~]$ aptitude -v -v -v -v -v moo
All right, you win.
(EDIT: I have no idea how to do this, so here: http://www.eeggs.com/images/items/483.full.jpg%29
[neil@lx-dt:~]$ aptitude -v -v -v -v -v -v moo
What is it? It's an elephant being eaten by a snake, of course. - cheesecake42, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5it's not just ubuntu. plenty of distros use apt
- PaulRay, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Errr... It's a joke. Just a little joke. not serious, but a joke.
- PaulRay, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4I'm not good enough to tackle Gentoo... Yet.
So I use ubuntu... But, the truth is. The Gentoo is a much better looking beast.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4@phatboye: I never understood why Gentoo required me to read a bunch of documentation when Fedora just let me start using my computer again.
I'd also point out that I find it hard to believe a problem in Fedora is harder to solve than it would be in Gentoo. Just because your professor doesn't know what he's doing in Fedora doesn't mean there is something wrong with Fedora anymore than my not knowing what I'm doing in Gentoo means something is fundamentally wrong with Gentoo.
They are different. I don't use Gentoo because I already spend enough time fiddling with Linux, and I just don't have the patience to read through tons of guides and docs to do things others have an automated solution for. It feels like I'm reinventing the wheel. You obviously enjoy that sort of thing, and more power to you. But I refuse to believe one is really better than the other. - 23bpg, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3bryant@nfkb:~$ aptitude moo
There are no Easter Eggs in this program.
bryant@nfkb:~$ aptitude -v moo

- DarkDx, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Lol have you ever tried this easter egg anyway?
If I wanted to install your application: "apt-get install moo"
If I wanted to see the ascii cow: "apt-get moo"
See? - addicted68098, on 07/16/2008, -3/+5Wow it looks more like an obese reindeer to me,
- TheFounder, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3Freaking hilarious... Look... if you can have a debate raging about the type of cow.. then you know for sure all the major bugs have been worked out.. and Ubuntu is perfectly valid OS for the desktop.... (I say this typing from Ubuntu right now).
- m1zl3d, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3zane@Marvin:~$ sudo apt-get cowsay
E: Invalid operation cowsay - yuanzhoulu, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4now i'm going to write a super-awesome application called 'moo' that is so awesome they will have to include it in the apt repositories. then let's see what happens.
kind of how 'rsync' used to be a command in Gentoo's emerge so that 'emerge rsync' synchronised the database instead of installing the software called 'rsync'. - feignNU, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3hahahahaha. You sir, are amazing.
- phatboye, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3I never could understand why people think using Gentoo is hard. Not to talk down to anyone but IMO Gentoo isn't hard to use at all. I am not the brightest star in the sky, yet I was able to get Gentoo working on my first try. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to run Gentoo just someone who is willing to read a bit of documentation (well written documentation I might add) and who is patient and willing to learn something new.
In fact once you get Gentoo up and running it's much easier to use than most binary distros. I work with my professor at school and I see him pulling his hair out trying to figure out how to get things working in Fedora that would be simple to solve on Gentoo. - condeh, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2it was also a joke, but nevermind.
- corelist, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2"I think the OpenBSD crowd is a bunch of masturbating monkeys" -Linus Torvalds
- SteveMax, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2"emerge moo" in Gentoo actually prints the cow, then searches portage for a "moo" package. You won't break this precious feature anywhere with your "moo" package :)
