- valis, on 02/25/2009, -28/+223I really don't think a login screen for any OS is worthy news. It seems like a boring topic.
- Sealbhach, on 02/24/2009, -18/+134Looks pretty cool to me.
- abbathdoom, on 02/25/2009, -9/+68I'm digging the minimalism of the actual log in but the logo in the lower corner is a bit fug. Especially with the redy brown haze. Still, it's good to see Canonical finally making changes after failing to deliver on their promises in the past.
The new time zone selector is pretty sexy! - wwwluckyro, on 02/25/2009, -3/+62Unless it's ubuntu. Anything that goes away from that brown is news.
- oblique63, on 02/25/2009, -0/+49you mean, something like a .deb file, which actually installs in fewer clicks than an .exe because it doesn't ask the user to hit 'next'/'continue' 20x in the process?...
nope, haven't heard of anything like that yet... - sexycatsinhats, on 02/25/2009, -1/+38Dugg for not being brown this time.
- draxenato, on 02/25/2009, -14/+50This is newsworthy ? Seriously ?
- cmsjustin, on 02/25/2009, -1/+29Download the ISO like everyone else
- york2600, on 02/25/2009, -0/+27The old selector was absolutely horrible. I can't wait to have the horrible select the dot system replaced.
- mazelx, on 02/25/2009, -11/+36Waw!!!! What amazing black screen with a ubuntu logo... Seriously diggers, do you have nothing better to digg that every single tiny news about in Ubuntu 9.04 such as the login screen ???
Sorry but nothing innovative here... - theaceoffire, on 02/25/2009, -2/+22Whats wrong with that?
I think it feels much more professional than the brown thing that was default before. - arcticblue, on 02/25/2009, -2/+21This one was submitted first and links directly to the actual article instead of some blogspam that links to it.
- mbwardle, on 02/25/2009, -0/+19Possibly it's a security feature. You have to guess a username and a password right to be able to log on rather than just a password.
But the third screenshot shows that you can customize it to include a user list. They call it a "browser" (e.g. Happy GNOME with Browser). - 0ceanic, on 02/25/2009, -0/+18this is the correct one to digg out of both.
links directly to the article and was posted first. - ghaefb, on 02/25/2009, -3/+19Why is there no user list? Average user doesn't like to type as much as we do :)
I think click on user(icon) and type password would be better for the ubuntu target audience. - arcticblue, on 02/25/2009, -1/+17I think the new time-zone selector is a step in the right direction, but it reminds me of some nasty 70's kitchen wallpaper. The coloring also makes no sense to me; it's 3 different shades of baby ***** and 2 shades of pink in there for the hell of it..
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -5/+21its a plain black screen
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -2/+18I spend literally 7 hours per day looking at the time zone selector. I'm glad that it is cosmetically more pleasing....
- theaceoffire, on 02/25/2009, -0/+14The solid black theme is very sweet in my mind.
No, if you want tacky, this is tacky:
http://www.villageofarcade.org/index.htm - MWeather, on 02/25/2009, -1/+15"and this is why linux is not mainstream, time zone selectors DON'T MATTER."
I agree. That development time would have been much better spent making an animated paperclip. - Norumeni, on 02/25/2009, -0/+14I believe that's a theme that softpedia is using, and I think they say so right underneath the picture...
- mbwardle, on 02/25/2009, -2/+15I don't like the way the Ubuntu logo disappears behind the bar at the bottom, but the new notification system looks really cool.
- GavinZac, on 02/25/2009, -0/+12The linux kernel is responsible for wireless and 3d drivers, not Ubuntu.
- arcticblue, on 02/25/2009, -1/+12Does digging me down make you feel better? You know I'm right.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -2/+12sarcastic remark
::woooosh::
your head - jamesmcm, on 02/25/2009, -0/+9There are .debs but package management is far superior. Use apt. Manually distributed binaries are a legacy from the days when software came on 20 floppies - use package management.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -6/+14Breaking! Barack Obama Has Heard of Ubuntu: Let the fapping commence.
- nedzeve, on 02/25/2009, -0/+8You don't get it, do you? That method for distributing and installing software is obsolete. With Ubuntu, you have vast repositories of software available to you with just a couple clicks. Let the package manager do the work. It's even easier than you realize.
- DocHoliday22, on 02/25/2009, -0/+8Sarcasm. It's lame.
- softpedia, on 02/25/2009, -0/+8Because that was SPAM!
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Ubuntu-9-04-039-s-N ... - HonoredMule, on 02/25/2009, -1/+8No more bloody gradients!
- GavinZac, on 02/25/2009, -0/+7It's a 3rd party theme. Read More.
- dolbinau, on 02/25/2009, -1/+8haha. And I think I was pwned.
- huertanix, on 02/25/2009, -0/+7I got some official pressed copies from Canonical at SCaLE. I'll bring them to the next 2600 meeting...
- MacParrot, on 02/25/2009, -3/+10OR you COULD have been a nice guy and just not made some comment that added nothing to the discussion other than to tell people that you don't like their OS choice.
- BobCFC, on 02/25/2009, -6/+13Lol @ downloading ebook warez via torrent in the last screenshot
- priegog, on 02/25/2009, -1/+8I don't think you're being so much of a newb rather than a troll.
- AZRoboto, on 02/25/2009, -0/+7Hahaha someone doesn't have a CD burner!
- Killerah, on 02/25/2009, -0/+6Do you expect the art team to work on your wireless drivers and 3d acceleration? They'd both suck if that were the case. Ubuntu has plenty of people working on both aspects.
- nogero, on 02/25/2009, -0/+6You are correct! It will get worse. When Apple releases anything they post photographs of the shrinkwrap!
- thePTS, on 02/25/2009, -1/+7Please tell me Obama didn't type up a new marijuana legalization act using OpenOffice on Kubuntu. That would be the end of Digg as we know it.
- arcticblue, on 02/25/2009, -1/+7Still looks like baby ***** though. Something similar to IBM's time-zone wallpaper (a little less "busy" though) would be more pleasing to the eye I would think. http://www.mocom.ru/Wallpapers/Pictures/ibm/wallpa ...
- potaco, on 02/25/2009, -2/+8Yeah, really. This is just as bad as submitting "Windows 7 Default Wallpaper Features a Fish!" I understand that Linux fanboys feel the need to promote the attractiveness of certain distros (given the outdated stigma that Linux is just a non-user-friendly command line OS), but this is taking it way too far.
- je12u, on 02/25/2009, -2/+8Maybe I just don't get it...can't you change the 'brown' theme yourselves?!? Why is Ubuntu/Brown such a big deal? It's like having an uproar about the XP welcome screen or the bliss wallpaper. Who gives a ***** about the default values? If you don't like it change it.
I'm saying this as an Ubuntu user myself. - softpedia, on 02/25/2009, -0/+6THIS IS THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Ubuntu-9-04-039-s-N ...
FROM THE BLOG YOU MENTIONED: "Picture from news.softpedia.com" - philkav, on 02/25/2009, -4/+9looks ok but it can't beat this -
http://gnome-look.org/content/preview.php?preview= ... - VSKBadCRC, on 02/25/2009, -4/+9Really, a login screen gets front page on Digg?
- Kabloink, on 02/25/2009, -0/+5You mean the UI is trivial? Does that mean that Apple and Microsoft are also wasting their time spending so much time refining their UI? Perhaps Microsoft should had stayed with the Windows 3.1 interface and Apple should have chosen Window Maker for OSX.
- MacParrot, on 02/25/2009, -2/+7You obviously did or you wouldn't have commented AIPAC. And who cares about your hobby so prominent in your digg name?
- stronglikedan, on 02/25/2009, -1/+6Me too. It's jaunty.
