- phil2490, on 10/31/2007, -1/+75Human was nice, but it's looking a little tired now. Excited to see what they come up with
- renegadeafk, on 10/30/2007, -3/+55That theme is hideous
- TheRealToma, on 10/30/2007, -7/+21"Our target audience will be drawn to ubuntu because of the fresh bling and simple beauty of the OS. Through this we can fix bug#1"
Hmmm. Dunno bout that. It would help in squishing bug #1, it will take alot more than eye-candy. Need to work on making the gaming community happy, imho. - nxusername, on 10/30/2007, -3/+17Please let it look something like this:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/May-B?c ...
That would be fresh. - bobbagoose, on 10/30/2007, -2/+16"Klaus loves a pretty things, they make him smile."
- DAC1138, on 10/30/2007, -0/+13So someone by the name of "Willy Nilly" says the ubuntu naming scheme is gay? HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
'nuff said. - fuckinhell, on 10/30/2007, -0/+13You guys DO realize that the people working on the theme are NOT the same people who typically do coding.
- streetstealth, on 10/30/2007, -0/+13This would be a good time to look into color theory and go with something more hierarchical. Imagine way less saturated orange than there is now, but with just the important parts a very bright orange... That could look nice.
- Gerbil_Juice, on 10/31/2007, -6/+18Very likely.
- sparrowkc, on 10/31/2007, -0/+12However, people with full brains are able to endure the color orange long enough to make the (exactly) three clicks it takes to change the theme to something they like, and don't dismiss the entire project because of a trivial detail. Also your grammar is horrible.
- skinturtle, on 10/30/2007, -2/+12I'm not a fan of any OS. I think they all have their virtues. I usually use windows because most of the apps I use are for windows only. I gotta say however that ever since installed the latest Ubuntu along with compiz and the management tool...these effects really have me hooked. I've hardly been back to Windows since about 2 weeks ago but only do some audio work. The rest of my computing is all done in Ubuntu.
I understand the thinking that functionality and stability should be first and foremost (form must always follow function) and I agree. But this is SO MUCH FREAKIN' FUN!..lol! I personally don't see any problems with the functionality or stability.
People that whine about the eyecandy are about like those old farts that believe if medicine doesn't taste terrible...it doesn't work. I think the eye candy actually does more to increase productivity to be honest. - svivian, on 10/30/2007, -0/+10They haven't started making it yet. Which is why this digg is entirely pointless.
- Gerbil_Juice, on 10/30/2007, -4/+12You took the exact words right out of my mouth. I'd rather be stuck with human over that garbage.
- Acglaphotis, on 10/30/2007, -1/+9kill yourself? That'd be great.
- genericface, on 10/31/2007, -1/+8Hi Troll.
- TomP, on 10/30/2007, -1/+8R.I.P - My Boner
- sparrowkc, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6They haven't gotten past deciding that they should make a new theme.
- hanief84, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7I'm using both Ubuntu and Xubuntu. I think it will be something if both default themes combine together.
- ahirreddy, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6This is the perfect time for professional artists and graphic designers in the community to step up to create a great new Ubuntu theme. Human was and still is great, but brown is still brown. The new theme should focus on usability and to a certain extend eye appeal (brown is okay, but it has been proven that there are other colors that are much easier on the eyes over extended periods). Compiz integration is also of utmost importance. They need to strike a balance between effects and usefulness. They need to determine the optimal timings for each effect and role that into the default, while at the same time give users to make any changes that they would like. (An OS X like balance, apple does a great job with balancing effects and usability, not a vista like glut of useless effects that constantly eat resources and give me a headache.) It will take some serious testing on the parts of users, devs, and professional artists and designers to create a perfect theme that beats the pants of Leopard. The beauty of open source is that all of this is possible!
- crazybrit, on 10/30/2007, -2/+7Human is a great theme. The icons aren't the best, but the widgets and everything look great. I like it better than Aqua or whatever they're calling it now. (And this is from a Mac user)
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5My cats never say anything as stupid as that.
- CrucifiedEgo, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5That's the point. They're going to change design directions with every LTS release.
- Acglaphotis, on 10/30/2007, -1/+6Are you a ***** cat? Then stop saying kthxbye...
- PotatoSalad, on 10/30/2007, -2/+7Darker's too shiny for my tastes. I'd actually like to see something like the UbuntuStudio theme.
http://ubuntustudio.org/screenshots ( http://ubuntustudio.org/files/US5.png and http://ubuntustudio.org/files/US6.png in particular)
The few caveats (like file-roller) could be ironed out if the style was adopted. - jamesshuang, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5I thought it looked fine at first (the screenshots looked nice), until I actually installed it. Damn, it IS hideous x_x
- CircleFusion, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Interestingly, they have different people doing different things. Putting a hold on the new theme design is not going to cause the network bug to be fixed more quickly.
- Mejogid, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4My favourite brown theme by far is http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Caramel ... - it's unimposing, elegandt and professional which is exactly what I think a default theme should be.
- drato, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Don't get your hopes up....That's a mockup someone created for gnome 3 (and a very impressive one at that), but it would mean a lot of changes to GTK & Gnome itself that are beyond the scope of the Ubuntu developers
- itux1985, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5"the interface they have is good enough and already customizable" -agreed
"they should focus on an internal way to make "wine" obsolete" -agreed
"wine is bug # 1" -? - aldenhg, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5I use Darker myself. It messes up some applications (like file-roller), though.
- sparrowkc, on 10/30/2007, -3/+6Just use clearlooks, maybe with human icons.
- sparrowkc, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4Clearlooks with another icon theme is pretty sweet.
- mrsteveman1, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Yes theres nothing that matters more to open source operating systems than making GAMERS happy.
Gamers = push GPU development, thats about it. If you want someone to bitch about, you can blame the GPU manufactures, and in fact gamers themselves, for allowing MICROSOFT to move in with D3D and completely destroy any possible competition. - ours, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3That's implemented in KDE 4. All progress bars that support it are shown in one single pane. It makes sense.
- jcronkhite, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Completely horrible! Brown done wrong! People really like this stuff (cough cough, zune)... ...count me out!
- markdr123, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4That's awesome.
I love the 'ongoing' pane at the top - that's actually a really good idea for an OS.
And it's visually very pretty as well. - Kitsun, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3I hope that Valve support Linux, that will really be a turning point.
- Meep3D, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3The reason most default themes are bland and boring is because the more stylised you make your theme the more chance there is of someone hating it. This is why Light Blue is so commonly used - it's a safe colour.
I think OSX Aqua Graphite is the nicest theme I've seen yet. I think Luna is horrible, but not so bad in silver, Luna MCE is a bit better and Ubuntu brown is just ghastly.
The truth is you need to pick something light, airy, clean, timeless and neutral for your default theme to attract people. You don't want to wow people, you just want them to not hate it. - InsaneMachine, on 10/30/2007, -3/+6that doesn't depend on Ubuntu, it rests 95% on the publishing companies to release a Linux client. I doubt Cedega will ever be a full replacement. By that I mean, a new game comes out, boom it works. Now if the companies worked with transgaming, then that could happen, but it still rests on them.
- spinningobo, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Don't be a bitch.
- CrucifiedEgo, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4Don't like it? Bury it. That's the way the site works...
- PatrickBrown, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2I dislike black as my eyes are constantly searching the screen as if I am missing detail.
When it is a lighter color it is not a problem. Quite likely this is a general truth due to animal nature, but I am not designer.
Saving energy would be better accomplished by asking people to turn off their computers at night or during the day when not in use (hah). - Kitsun, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2I agree, WINE could spell out death for Microsoft, since windows apps will no longer be exclusive to windows, and all what would be left is the OS (IE vs FireFox?).
- markdr123, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2...none more black.
- RollFizzlebeef, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3I installed Ubuntu the other day, but it's incompatible with my video card. Sad state of affairs if I can't even see it, for Christ's sake.
- Rolamoto, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2that looks kind of like SymphonyOS
- amoore260, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2I guess the Ubuntu devs are seeing how nice KDE4 looks. I like Gnome but a tango make over is not the way to go. KDE4's Oxygen icon set is just sharp!
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2Thanks for the laugh :D
