It is leaps and bounds greater then Vista(been using for 4 months now). Beryl is easily apt-get'd and works great, with effects that blows Aero out of the water. The Network manager works with virtually everything. My School uses EAP-PEAP with dynamic WEP, which would work under the semi-cryptic wpa_supplicant, but the manager has the setting for this, does it all nice and graphically. I would recommend automatix and the unofficial ubuntu wiki to anyone who needs that quick fix for playing DVD's or getting wine to work, but this is real competition for vista in my mind and professional opinion.
