It's the 'dumping phase' now. It tried this with Intel in Nigeria (paying them to take Windows) and sales of Windows fell 24% in the last quarter nonetheless.
- amdlinux, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2I forgot to mention that they also bought Linux away from the Asus EEE PC 900 here in Germany - this machine is only available with Windows here although even the Amazon forums are flooded with requests for a Linux version, not to mention that the EEE 701 Linux is on place 1 and 2 of Germany's notebook charts since its introduction. Talk about consumer satisfaction....
- amdlinux, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2It is not only dumping - here in Germany at Amazon they obviously started to subsidize a "normal" Acer notebook that came came with both Window and Linux and the Vista Home Basic version was cheaper than the Linux version. Amazon now does not even offer the Linux version any more which is still available from other smaller vendors.
However, companies like Acer feel and see this weakness and start to exploit it. The recent Acer announcement re Linux usage of their products by the Acer CEO was a very clear message towards MS. This starts to bite hard into their margins of one of their cash cows, Windows.
The time is close when MS has generally to pay to get its crap preinstalled on hardware. Together with the Yahoo desaster, this all will cost MS dearly. They are getting weaker every week.
