Top four reasons Windows wins and Linux loses
desktoplinux.com — Today, you can do everything you want with a Linux desktop, except play the latest games. Even there, Linux is catching up. So, why do only a handful of people run Linux instead of Windows? Here are my top-four reasons why Windows wins and Linux loses.

Fairly sad that your link to an alternate point of view is going to be buried. Its very good to look at both sides of the story so that we can figure out the truth, and then address the issue. Its better to get some objective criticism that is TRUE and then fix the problem. Sadly that's not the way the loud linux users think.

- subgeniusd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3SJVN is a dedicated Linux user but not a trained-seal-clapping-fanboy. Here is the last sentence of this logical and well though out article:
"I already know Linux makes a great desktop operating system -- I'd like the rest of the world to be able to join me on it."
Apologists preach only to the choir and I'm not listening to them anymore. I'm with SJVN all the way. - dukeinlondon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Best article from SJVN in a long while. But maybe the reason for some of the reason is that Linux is many different things to many different people. There is the Linux that my company runs on application server farms and computer grids and there is the openSuse 10.1 that I run on my home desktop and the Debian that my ISP offers and the Linux that a telecom company will run, the Linux that a school who wants to drive 4 terminals with 1 PC will run, the Linux that might be used in some smart phones some days.....
The only place where it's not going anywhere is the desktop and that's because it really is playing catch up. And when you buy a PC, it comes with an OS. Why would you spend time replacing it with the less supported and featured challenger ?
I use Linux and get mad sometimes but my PC is really not compatible with XP so I don't have a choice. My next PC will run Vista and if it's good enough, I'll keep it. The good thing though is that I know Linux will be markedly better by then, if Vista proves to be another MS disappointment, which I somehow expect..... - abramburel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just wait a few years and see if Windows will still be on the market :) Linux will take over the world ... muwhahahahaha
